An 86-year-old woman died after being attacked by a family dog she was briefly caring for at a home in Moore.

According to the Moore Police Department, officers responded at around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, to reports of a dog attack with injuries in the area of NE 27th Street and Highland Drive.

Upon arrival, they found the woman with severe injuries and immediately began life-saving measures, including applying tourniquets to control the bleeding until paramedics arrived. She was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

The woman's family said she was temporarily caring for the dog on behalf of a family member when the attack occurred.

The dog was removed from the home by Moore Animal Control, where it is currently being confined.

The identity of the woman has not been released.
