Russian senator: West has launched large-scale campaign to remove Russia from UN Security Council

The West has launched a large-scale campaign to remove Russia from the UN Security Council (UNSC), Senator Sergey Kalashnikov said, commenting on the UK's accusations against Moscow over the poisoning of Sergei Skripal.

"The West has launched a massive operation in order to kick Russia out of the UN Security Council," Kalashnikov said, as cited by RIA Novosti. "Russia is now a very inconvenient player for the Western nations and this explains all the recent attacks on our country."

The Senator believes that in order to curb Russia's membership there is going to be an attempt to reform the principal UN body tasked with the maintenance of international peace and security. The Russian Federal Council member reminded that the USSR, to which Russia is the legal successor, has been an integral part of the UNSC since its establishment in 1946.

On Wednesday, Labor MP Chris Leslie addressed May on the issue of reforming the UN Security Council in order to limit Russia's rights within the body during a parliament session.

Comment: Since the UN is merely a puppet of the US Empire, it is not at all surprising that it will look to get rid of the pesky Russians who stand in the way of so much imperial domination around the globe. The whole world benefits from a balanced Security Council instead of one run solely by the imperial puppets of the US and UK.

Rand Paul threatens filibuster of 'war loving' nominees Mike Pompeo and Gina Haspel

Rand Paul
In response to President Trump's nominations, Sen. Rand Paul is threatening a filibuster, in order to keep Mike Pompeo from becoming the secretary of state and Gina Haspel from becoming the director of the CIA.

Paul said during a press conference that he would do everything in his power to prevent the nominees from assuming their prospective roles. His reasoning stems from Pompeo's fervor for regime change wars in the Middle East, and Haspel's experience as the head of a CIA "black site" prison in Thailand.

"People complain sometimes about the filibuster-they complain about trying to obstruct. I think the debate over whether or not America is a country in favor of torture or not is an important one," Paul said. "I'm going to do everything I can to block them."

The Syrian army has discovered a secret workshop in Eastern Ghouta that was used to produce various military-grade chemicals, according to the SANA news agency.

The footage showing a plant full of high-tech equipment located in the town of al-Shefounieh t in Eastern Ghouta has been released by the state-run news agency. The clandestine workshop was used by terrorists, presumably Jaysh al-Islam militant group, papers of which were also discovered at site, to manufacture chemical munitions with equipment allegedly of Saudi origin and materials ostensibly made in Western countries. Chlorine was among the other toxic chemicals found at the building.

In response, Russia's Foreign Ministry has urged the United States to abandon its "irresponsible plans" on Syria, which are fraught with conflict escalation.

Venezuela Minister calls out US diplomat for inciting military coup

Todd Robinson

Diplomat Todd Robinson has constantly interfered in Venezuelan politics since his appointment to Caracas.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry delivered Tuesday a protest letter to U.S. Embassy's Charge d'Affaires Todd Robinson, in which the Bolivarian country expressed its rejection towards his hostile attitude and constant provocations, typical of an opposition leader.

Robinson recently used the embassy's official social network accounts to criticize Venezuela's decision to hold elections on May 20, and the foreign ministry considers it a violation of the Vienna Convention and the diplomatic mission's role in Caracas.

Comment: Even holding democratically held elections are not quite "democratic" for the US empire!

In the letter, the Foreign Ministry's Vice Minister for North America Samuel Moncada "strongly condemns" the interventionist declarations by the U.S. diplomatic mission about the upcoming elections.

Comment: The US's behavior in the Bolivarian nation have been nothing short of criminal. The empire simply can't stand or resist meddling in a country that has its own resources - and will - to run itself without the US as its master.

The latest developments in the besieged country show that the US's 20 years-old efforts at regime change - and Venezuela's resistance to them - are intensifying:

Tehran warns US not to make 'foolish' decisions on Syria

Iran has warned the United States not to make any "foolish" decisions regarding possible military action against Syria.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi advised the White House to think carefully before adopting a more interventionist approach in Syria. The comments from Qassemi come after President Donald Trump ousted Rex Tillerson as the US Secretary of State on Tuesday.

Tillerson was regarded as less of a hawk than many others in the Trump administration when it comes to foreign policy, and, since his departure, some foreign policy experts have speculated that the White House is preparing to take new military action against Syrian government forces.

Lavrov: Russia will speed up S-400 deliveries to Turkey

Moscow is positive about the request by Ankara to speed up the delivery of its S-400 air defense systems to Turkey, Sergey Lavrov, Russia's Foreign Minister, said after talks with visiting Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu.

"In response to the request by our Turkish partners to speed up the originally planned delivery terms, we are reacting positively," Lavrov told journalists in the Russian capital on Wednesday. The FM refrained from announcing any dates, only saying that the implementation of the S-400 deal is among the issues "now discussed in practical terms by specialists; they aren't for public disclosure."

Moscow and Ankara signed a $2.5 billion agreement on the procurement of Russia's most advanced S-400 Triumph (known to NATO as the SA-21 Growler) system in December. The delivery of the first complexes to Turkey is scheduled to begin in early 2020, Russian presidential aide for the defense industry cooperation, Vladimir Kozhin, told Rossiya 24 channel on Monday. He noted that Russia had accommodated Turkey's wish to accelerate the implementation of the contract.

Destroying Bolshevism: 'The Whites defeat the Reds' - Washington's Century-Long War on Russia

Cold War
The United States has launched a three-pronged offensive on Russia. First, it's attacking Russia's economy via sanctions and oil-price manipulation. Second, it's increasing the threats to Russia's national security by arming and training militant proxies in Syria and Ukraine, and by encircling Russia with NATO forces and missile systems. And, third, it's conducting a massive disinformation campaign aimed at convincing the public that Russia is a 'meddling aggressor' that wants to destroy the foundation of American democracy. (Elections)
In response to Washington's hostility, Moscow has made every effort to extend the olive branch. Russia does not want to fight the world's biggest superpower any more than it wants to get bogged down in a bloody and protracted conflict in Syria. What Russia wants is normal, peaceful relations based on respect for each others interests and for international law. What Russia will not tolerate, however, is another Iraq-type scenario where the sovereign rights of a strategically-located state are shunted off so the US can arbitrarily topple the government, decimate the society and plunge the region deeper into chaos. Russia won't allow that, which is why it has put its Airforce at risk in Syria, to defend the foundational principle of state sovereignty upon which the entire edifice of global security rests.

Comment: Yes, it's time to move on to true democracy: international democracy, aka a multipolar world.

What sanctions? Russian-French trade continues to grow

Russia-France trade grew by almost a fifth last year despite the economic restrictions from both sides, according to Russian Ambassador to France Aleksey Meshkov.

Cooperation between the two countries has never been interrupted, but sanctions and changes in the international situation have had negative effects," he told RIA Novosti.

"Trade turnover decreased significantly until last year. But then the situation changed for the better. Commodity turnover increased by 16 percent, according to the data at the beginning of this year, totaling $15.5 billion," Meshkov added.

Kremlin: Russia was not responsible for Skripal case, won't accept groundless threats and ultimatums from UK

Russia has nothing to do with the alleged poisoning of Russian ex-double agent Sergei Skripal, the Kremlin said. Moscow will not accept any groundless threats or ultimatums, it added.

"Moscow's position [on the Skripal case] is well known... Moscow had nothing to do with the incident that took place in the UK," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

Russia said it would not respond to the ultimatum set by UK Prime Minister Theresa May, who demanded an explanation for the "poisoning" of the 66-year-old Skripal and his daughter. May's deadline expired on Wednesday at midnight.

Comment: Russian ambassador to the U.N. Vasily Nebenzya is calling for more critical thinking in Skripal case, which is behavior that is seemingly anathema to Western politicans and media. He rightly points out that no one seems to be asking the first question anytime something in politics happens: who benefits? Certainly not Russia, but again that is a nuance that is intentionally ignored in the West.

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov points out that the West is doing some serious projecting in the Skripal case:
"The West demonstrates very interesting behavior. When they are attempting to justify some of their own actions, they start accusing Russia. You can accuse everyone around of your own blunders, but it won't change anything if the facts speak for the opposite," Ramzan Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram messenger-blog on Wednesday.

"Everyone knows about the [nerve] agent with which Skripal was reportedly poisoned. The formula had been declassified a long time ago. But the Kalashnikov assault rifle was also invented in Russia - if an American kills a Vietnamese with it, will it also be described as a 'Russian trace?'" the head of the Chechen Republic joked.
Meanwhile, the UK has blocked a Russian drafted UN Security Council statement asking for an urgent investigation into the Skripal poisoning case. It seems as far as the UK is concerned, the case is open and shut since they have decided without any evidence to blame Russia. Why even bother with a 'civilized and cooperative' investigation then?
