Waterspout caught on camera off Long Beach Island, New Jersey

A waterspout was photographed off northern Long Beach Island this morning.

The torrential rains that flooded much of Ocean County spawned the spout, seen from various vantage points along the island.

The National Ocean Service defines a water spout as a whirling column of air and mist. There are two types: fair weather, which are not associated with thunderstorms, and likely what onlookers saw today, tornadic.

Waterspouts have been spotted off the coasts of France and Spain in recent days.

Onlookers captured a tornado forming off the coast of Cassis in the south of France last week, before thunderstorms hit the region.

Another small waterspout was seen rocking docked boats off the coast of the Balearic island of Espalmador.

This is the dramatic moment a storm tore the roof off a train station and sent it crashing into the locomotives below.

The huge storm rolled in to Mannheim in Germany about 3pm on Thursday and swept over the train marshalling yard with destructive effect.

Witness Christian Schaufelberger said high winds first began to whip fallen branches and other debris into the air.

Heavy rainfall creates problems in west Georgia

Heavy rain has caused flooding in several towns in western Georgia, damaging infrastructure, houses and causing traffic delays.

The Emergency Management Service of Georgia reports that their units are mobilized at every spot where help is needed and are carrying out pumping works.

As a result of abundant rainfall in Batumi, Andronikashvili, Ostrov, Komakhidze and Saakadze streets were flooded. The Emergency Management Service has already cleaned the drainage channels and pumped water from the residential houses. 150 notifications were received from Batumi residents by the Emergency Management Service.

The Agency added about 40 houses were flooded in Kobuleti due to the heavy rain. Water pumping works have been completed there.

Teen boys struck by lightning in El Mirage, Arizona

Authorities say two teens were rushed to the hospital after being hit by lightning during Wednesday's storm.

The El Mirage Police Department said two 14-year-old boys were playing with friends in a park near El Mirage and Cactus roads.

The pair was running toward a ramada when they were struck.

Witnesses started CPR before first responders arrived, police said.

The scare of a Davidson 10-year-old's life ended up turning into one of the coolest things he's ever seen. And he safely got it all on video for the rest of us to see.

"That's the closest lightning bolt I had ever seen in my life," Brody Lee told WBTV just hours after he shot the video.

Lee was standing right by his home's front window when - boom! - he got the scare of his life.

"I was like freaking out because it was legit, maybe a couple of meters away from our house," he said.

Two dead, 100 evacuated following landslides in northern Italian town

Two landslides close to the northern resort town of Courmayeur have killed one tourist and caused panic among many others, with over 100 people evacuated.

A couple from Milan was reported to have died after the landslides, caused by storms in the Val Ferret area close to the Swiss border at the foot of Mont Blanc.

Their car was one of several swept away by mud after one of the landslides flooded a small side valley close to the town of Planpincieux.

The body of the man, 71, was recovered on Monday evening and firefighters were on Tuesday working to recover his wife's body, which they had identified as trapped under the vehicle, Corriere della Sera reported.

Saharan dust causes orange haze above Southwest Florida

Do you notice anything unusual about our sky today? If you look closely, you'll see a slight orange haze above Southwest Florida over the next few days.

This haze was very evident around sunrise Wednesday morning looking east. The image below was taken around 7 a.m. from downtown Fort Myers.

The source of this orange haze is a layer of dry dusty air originating from the Sahara Desert that's traveled over 6 thousand miles from Africa to South Florida!

North America's first EF-4 tornado of the year strikes Manitoba, Canada

North America's first EF4 tornado of 2018 has been confirmed, but it wasn't in the United States. Environment Canada said an EF4 tornado touched down last Friday in Manitoba, Canada.

The U.S. averages the most tornadoes in a given year, with 1,253 twisters occurring in the country annually, according to NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).

Canada is a distant second, averaging about 100 tornadoes per year, NCEI also noted. Parts of southern Canada - particularly from the prairie provinces to southern Ontario and southern Québec - are most prone to tornadoes.

The strongest tornado to ever touch down in Canada was an F5 twister in Elie, Manitoba, on June 22, 2007.

Last Friday's EF4 tornado killed a 77-year-old man as it tore through the Alonsa, Silver Ridge and Margaret Bruce Beach areas of western Manitoba during the evening hours.

A firenado is generated in a similar way to a tornado, but full of fire
Firefighters in Derbyshire have captured on video a rare fire tornado, or firenado, towering 50ft above them while they tackled an industrial blaze near the town of Swadlincote.

The film shows a dazzling column of red-hot fire reaching high into the sky as black smoke billows up from a pool of flames at a plastic pallet factory, where the blaze broke out at about 1.20am on Tuesday morning.

As the camera tilts back to show the full height of the phenomenon, the whirling string of light appears to pulsate and bend as it is whipped by winds.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, which helped the Derbyshire and Staffordshire services tackle the blaze, shared the video on Facebook, saying: "Whilst we were firefighting at Occupation Lane we witnessed a firenado or a fire whirl.

"It's created as cool air enters the top of the hot air causing a swirl similar to how a tornado is formed."

Comment: The articles states that firenadoes are due to a temperature differential, but is that really the case? Or are we seeing a rise in a variety of phenomena around the world because of the electrical nature of this activity and the changing nature of our planet? The accumulation of cometary dust in the Earth's atmosphere plays an important role in the increase of tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes and their associated rainfalls, snowfalls and lightning. To understand this mechanism we must first take into account the electric nature of hurricanes, tornadoes and cyclones, which are actually manifestations of the same electric phenomenon at different scales or levels of power.
So when we take into account the rise in not just firenadoes, but snownadoes, deadly lightning and hail, and other strange sky phenomena, clearly other factors are at play than just temperature:
