The current flooding mayhem isn't just happening in Europe - it's also hitting countries worldwide. Here's a compilation of the worst floodings from around the world: the US, Mexico, Russia, China, France, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, and Romania.

Just think, the worst is probably yet to come!

Let's start with the 'biblical' floods currently sweeping across western and eastern Europe. Days of downpours have caused ten deaths in Germany, two in France and Romania and one in Belgium. The River Seine in Paris is six meters higher than normal.

In Germany, 10 people have been killed, including four in Baden-Wuerttemberg in flooding that hit Sunday and Monday.

Torrential rains and severe flooding across France have forced thousands of people to flee their homes amid a state of emergency. Paris' iconic Louvre museum will stay closed on Friday to be ready to remove artworks if the River Seine rises too high.

French President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency on Thursday due to the flooding, which has been caused by the Loire and Seine rivers bursting their banks following heavy downpours. The leader promised money to help local authorities deal with the damage.

Comment: UPDATE: Paris ready for 6m peak flood
Flood waters now predicted to reach 6.2m as red alert is lifted in last department, Seine-et-Marne

AS FLOODS started to ease in towns and villages upstream of Paris the capital is preparing for midday, when the waters should reach their highest at about 6metres.

That is about 10cm higher than had been expected and will further impact commuter transport with the RER C line that runs along the bank of the Seine already closed in the inner city plus the strategic St Michel Metro at the bottom of Boulevard St Michel, which was under water.

Already this morning there were reports of 240km of traffic jams on the roads into Paris instead of the 150km 'normally'.

The floods have claimed three victims - a 74-year-old horseman who was swept away in Grégy-en-Yerre, a three-year-old boy who was found drowned in the basement of his house at Sens and an 86-year-old woman found dead in her home at Souppes-sur-Loing - and Environment Minister Ségolène Royal fears more will be found as waters recede.

Yesterday morning flood levels on the Seine were at 4.88m above normal level at 10.00 and last night it had reached 5.37m at 21.00. This morning at 10.00 it was at 5.64m - that is nearly two storeys high - and the rising water had already started floods further downstream with Seine-Saint-Denis to the north-east and Essonne to the south-west also affected.

So far the water is below the last severe flood, in 1982 when it reached 6.18m and still two metres below the 100-year-flood of 1910, which was 8.62m.

Torrential rain delivers flooding from Paris to Prague

Floodwater
Northern Europe has continued to be lashed by torrential rain, bringing extensive flooding to Belgium, Germany and France.

Paris has never experienced so much rain in May since records began in 1873.

The scenes of flooding along the River Seine have been known in winter - though the fact it has been happening in June has caused surprise.

The A10 near Orleans resembled less a motorway on Wednesday than a river or a canal.

Hundreds of motorists became stranded. The army intervened to take them to emergency centres in nearby towns. Some cars later became totally immersed in water.

In northern France, fire crews have been called out hundreds of times, having no other option but to travel by boat to rescue people from their homes.

Torrential rain battered central China's Hubei Province on Wednesday, trapping people and inundating cities, the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said.

As of Wednesday evening, more than 100 trapped people had been rescued and more than 1,000 evacuated to safer places, officials with the headquarters said.

Red alerts for rain were issued on Wednesday in several cities across the province including the capital Wuhan.

Parts of Central and Northern France see worst flooding since records began

Scenes in parts of France looked like something straight out of a Jules Verne novel, with cars and houses under water after a deluge of rain.

Parts of Central and Northern France have been drenched by the downpour with water levels rising to over one and a half metres in some areas, in what is reported as the most rainfall for this time of year since records began.

A total of seven departments across the country had issued severe weather warnings, with the Loiret, one of the worst affected areas, being placed under red alert, an extremely rare event.

Firefighters and rescue services were only able to make patrols by boat, looking out for those stranded by the muddy water.

In other parts of the country, traffic was disrupted, coming to a complete standstill in some areas and large stretches of motorway have been closed in others.

Comment: Elsewhere in Europe this week torrential rain has caused devastating flash flooding to parts of Germany and Italy.

Severe storms and flash floods causes havoc in Milan, Italy

Flooded Milan
Flooded Milan
Flash floods wreaked havoc in Milan on Monday morning after a violent storm caused 90 litres of water to fall per each square metre of ground in just three hours.

Immediately after the storm began at around 10am some 200 calls were made to emergency services from citizens struggling to cope with the huge volume of rainwater, Ansa reported.

No casualties were recorded during the storm but emergency services were forced into action when more rain fell in a matter of hours than it had throughout the whole of May.

As drains and gutters overflowed, the accident and emergency room of Milan's Policlinico hospital needed to be evacuated.

Staff and students at Pascoloi secondary school were also forced to leave the building after the lashing rain started coming through the roof.

6 dead in Texas floods after record-breaking rain

Texas floods
© Michael Ciaglo/Houston Chronicle, via Associated Press The three men in the foreground had to abandon their truck Friday after getting caught in rising flood waters in Magnolia, Texas.

At least six people have died in flooding from torrential rain across large areas of Texas, and emergency workers were searching for an 11-year-old boy who was swept away in a storm-swollen creek in Kansas, the authorities said on Monday.

Record-breaking rain since the middle of last week has swallowed cars, damaged houses and led to the evacuation of 2,600 inmates. Thunderstorms brought more troubles to areas already saturated by other recent storms.

In an area including San Antonio and Austin, Tex., the heavy rain could not soak into the limestone and sandstone that characterize the Hill Country region, leading narrow creeks to brim with fast-running waters.

Since Wednesday, the thunderstorms have dropped pockets of intensely heavy rain, or "rain bombs," as meteorologists call them.

These have circulated through East Texas, Dallas and Corpus Christi, along with Austin and San Antonio, hitting some parts harder than others, said Kurt Van Speybroeck, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

As a result, rainfall has ranged from four inches in parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area to 30 inches in Washington County, the authorities said.

Texas floods prompt prison evacuation

Severe floods have hit Texas prompting regional prison authorities to evacuate thousands of inmates, anticipating a deluge. In one prison, the flooding has already caused a blackout leading to a mass brawl between inmates and prison guards.

Texas prison authorities are evacuating as many as 2,600 inmates from two prisons located near the rain-swollen Brazos River citing security concerns. The evacuations began on Sunday morning in the Terrell and Stringfellow Units in Rosharon that are located around 30 miles south of Houston.

The inmates are being transferred by buses to other prisons that have available space, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark told journalists. He also said that additional food and water was being delivered to the prisons receiving the evacuated inmates while sandbags and additional staff were sent to the prisons where flooding is expected in order to limit damage from the floodwaters.

Flash flood devastates town in southern Germany; four killed, cars washed away, hundreds evacuated

Floods have lashed southern Germany, killing at least four people and causing an underground carpark to collapse.

The town of Schwäbisch Gmünd was the worst hit, with a volunteer firefighter drowning while trying to rescue a flood victim, Deutsche Welle reports.

Two people died after a carpark filled with water and caved in. Scores of cars were submerged, while the strength of the water washed others down flooded streets.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated across the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, which borders France and Switzerland.

The flood waters reportedly rose four metres within just minutes. It is not yet known how much rain has fallen across Baden-Wuerttemberg.
