Heavy rains cause rivers to burst banks in Wales and northern England

Heavy rain and strong winds have battered parts of Wales, leaving homes flooded and others without power.

There are nine flood warnings in place for mid and north Wales, including parts of Bala town centre in Gwynedd.

Homes in Conwy county were flooded, including Betws-y-Coed and Llanrwst, where three people had to be rescued from a van stuck in flood water.

Earlier, more than 700 properties in south Wales and Ruthin, Denbighshire, suffered power cuts.

Deiniol Tegid, a spokesman for Natural Resources Wales, said: "The River Conwy is at its highest level ever recorded, so yes it's quite bad in Llanrwst at the moment and we're asking people to be very careful in that area and not to venture into flood water and please don't take any risks."

Rochdale flooding: Locals urged to take 'immediate action' as River Roch rises

Residents in Rochdale are being urged to take 'immediate action' over flooding fears - almost four years after Storm Eva caused devastation in the town.

The River Roch is reaching 'dangerously high' levels with heavy downpours already wreaking havoc on roads.

Diversions are in place and one car park is already under a foot of water with police warning motorists to 'take care'.

And now the Environment Agency has warned that the town centre could be about to be flooded, reports Manchester Evening News.

It said: "River levels are steadily rising as a result of persistent rainfall and are expected to continue due to current forecasts.

"Consequently, flooding of property is possible throughout Saturday 16th March 2019.

We believe there is a possibility of flooding for the area from Roch Valley Way to Yorkshire Street and Albert Royds Street.

The Metrolink Exchange in the town centre is included in the flood warning zone.

Parts of the town centre were pictured under water after the devastating Boxing Day floods of 2015 caused by Storm Eva.

Some 324 homes and businesses in Rochdale and Littleborough were severely damaged and 18,000 properties were left without power as record river levels saw the River Roch burst its banks in several places.

The fast-flowing water was four feet deep at the height of the flooding but miraculously, there were no reports of injuries and the town hall escaped flood damage.

According to the Environment Agency, those in areas where a flood warning has been issued should take action.

Flooding began last week in parts of Mozambique and Malawi. According to the latest reports, over 500,000 people have been affected with at least 40 fatalities reported.

Since then heavy rain has also affected areas of KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa, in particular around the city of Durban.

The Province's Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) reported severe flooding in Inanda, Verulam and KwaMashu, where homes and a bridge were damaged. Cogta said that at least 3 people have died in the flooding. Local media reported more are thought to be missing.

The most intense blizzard system with lowest pressure readings ever set with record snows, floods and wind speeds since the late 1800's. 'Bomb cyclone' triggers widespread flooding on Mississippi, Missouri rivers in US

Ice blocks brought by flood waters lie on the road in Howard County, Nebraska, US, on March 13, 2019

A powerful, late-winter "bomb cyclone" storm pushed into the US Midwest and the Great Lakes region on Friday (March 15), causing flooding along the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, stranding herds of cattle and raising alarms at a Nebraska nuclear power plant.

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts issued an emergency declaration for the state, citing forecasts of up to 0.61m of snow and high winds that are expected to make travel "difficult to impossible" on roads.

"Nebraskans should watch the forecast closely in the coming days and be prepared for severe weather events in conjunction with potential historic flooding," Mr Ricketts said in the declaration.

"As Nebraskans know, conditions can change quickly, and everyone needs to be prepared."

Ranchers posted images on social media of their cattle being dug out of snowdrifts or stranded in fields.

"Widespread and extremely dangerous flooding will continue today and tonight," the National Weather Service office in Omaha, Nebraska, said on Friday in a statement.

YDB team publishes evidence from Chile for global climate cataclysm

YDB World Map

The main objective of this study was to test the YDB impact hypothesis by analyzing a wide range of data from the Pilauco site in southern Chile. The following conclusions show that our data and interpretations are consistent with the YDB impact hypothesis and we found no evidence that refutes the hypothesis.

(1) At Pilauco, ~12,800-year-old peaks in high-temperature Pt-rich and native-Fe spherules are comparable to similar impact-related evidence found at more than 50 YDB sites in North America, Europe, and western Asia. It appears that the YDB layer at Pilauco is coeval with similar layers found at these sites on several continents and is also possibly related to the proposed YDB impact event.

(2) Identification of the YDB layer at Pilauco greatly expands the proposed YDB proxy feld ~6,000 km farther south of the closest well-studied YDB site in Venezuela, and ~12,000 km south of the northernmost YDB site in Canada, a distance equaling ~30% of Earth's circumference.

(3) Cr-rich spherules are found in the YDB layer at Pilauco, but not found at the ~50 other sites on four continents, suggesting that one or more local impacts/airbursts occurred in the Cr-rich basaltic terrain
circa Pilauco.

Deadly floods in Malawi - at least 6 dead, thousands displaced

Flooding of the Shire River

Heavy rains in southern and central parts of Malawi have caused flooding and rivers to overflow, in particular the Shire River in Chikwawa, where local media say 6 people have died.

The government of Malawi said in a statement of 07 March, that "Thousands of people have been displaced and a good number of people reported missing and others feared dead in the southern part of Malawi due to a heavy downfall of rain that started on 05 March, 2019. Malawi Red Cross volunteers and staff have embarked on search and rescue."

Floods have rendered the Kamuzu and Mwanza bridges on the Shire River in Chikwawa impassable.
