We're two weeks away from summer and parts of Washington are still getting fresh snow!

The Washington State Department of Transportation tweeted a photo of Chinook Pass with snow and slush on the roadway. The caption says the photo was taken Friday morning.

"It doesn't look like Old Man Winter got the memo about summer," the tweet says. "Winter weather is still here in the higher elevations."

Summer snow in Alberta, Canada

If you woke up in Alberta this morning, you might be mistaken for thinking it was December, or January, or at least still winter-time. As the rest of the country is starting to warm up and Canadians are digging out their sunscreen, sunglasses and summer shorts, it seems somebody has forgotten to tell Alberta about the change of seasons since there is summer snow in Alberta. That's right, while other parts of the country are experiencing extreme heat warnings, in Banff...it is snowing.

While several weather forecasts did predict snowfall in Southern Alberta this week, even Albertans have been surprised at how quickly the weather has turned, after experiencing sunny weather and temperatures of 22ยบC in Calgary just a few short days ago. A snowfall warning for Banff National Park, Kananaskis and Canmore was issued by Environment Canada yesterday afternoon, and predicted upwards of 10 centimetres of snow in some areas.

Climate scientists astounded - No Arctic ice loss in 13 years - Early June Arctic ice growing!

Arctic sea ice volume has not fallen in 13 years.
© Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI).Surprise. Arctic sea ice volume has not fallen in 13 years.
Modelled data by the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) show that Arctic sea ice stopped shrinking 13 years ago, defying earlier predictions made by climate scientists and models.

A few days ago we showed how Antarctica's coastal stations were in fact cooling somewhat rather than warming. This came as a surprise to many.

And now that it's June 1st, with the Arctic melt season starting in earnest, it is a good time to check Arctic ice volume. Here as well we find an equally surprising trend. Instead of shrinking rapidly โ€” as is often claimed by the .global warming by alarmist scientists and the click-sleaze media โ€” Arctic sea ice volume has not shrunk in 13 years!

Comment: Meanwhile at the opposite polar region: 11 of 11 Coastal Antarctic stations show ZERO warming over past decades

Higher reaches of Gulmarg including the Affarwat peaks have witnessed a mild snowfall on Thursday, reports reaching here said.

The sudden drop in temperatures in the plains of the valley is the outcome of the freeze that took off from the Gulmarg peaks. Reports said the snowfall was mild and for a very brief time. Some people who had gone to cerebrate Eid in the area covered snowfall live on their camera and broadcast it through social media.

Gulmarg witnessed a similar snowfall in its upper reaches early May.

Summer in Russia: Heavy snowfall hits cities on Arctic Circle

snow
Snow fell in Salekhard, the administrative centre of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, on the morning of 5 June for the second year in a row, Artem Koshkin, head of the Yamalo-Nenets Centre for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, told reporters.

The first week of summer has been marked by heavy snowfall in the Russian cities of Salekhard and Labytnangi.

"It is not for the first year. And last year was the same situation. It is not quite ordinary, but it is difficult to call the situation extreme. It's normal for us, we live on the Arctic Circle, such weather is quite possible", Koshkin stated.

150 lakes in the Tahoe Basin are still frozen, and it's June

Frozen Eagle Lake, Near Lake Tahoe

With the Sierra Nevada wrapped in the claws of winter through May, the mountain range is blanketed in a hefty snowpack. Many mountain lakes are still frozen solid even though it's the first week of June and the summer tourism season is kicking off. In the Tahoe Basin specifically, an estimated 150 lakes are solid or covered in thick sheets of ice with their edges just beginning to melt.

"The rangers I have who are in the high country have pretty much concluded anything over 7,000 feet in elevation is still frozen," says Don Lane, supervisory recreation forester for the U.S. Forest Service's Lake Tahoe unit. "Lake Tahoe is at 6,200 feet, and the lakes above it in the mountains are all ice."

This isn't typical, at least in recent decades. "I've seen it happen only a few times over the past 40 years," he says.

Monster hail storm in Puglia, Italy leaves up to 15 cm of ice on the streets

HAIL
Snowploughs hit the streets of southern Puglia on Sunday in Italy's latest case of extreme weather.

Parts of the province of Lecce were turned white by an unseasonal hail storm, leading to surreal scenes as people in shorts and T-shirts were left digging out cars from up to 15 cm of ice.

Snowploughs were brought out of storage to clear roads, while in other areas heavy downpours swept away cars and flooded houses.

The storms also damaged crops in Puglia, which grows many of Italy's olives, grapes and other fruits.
