Bear charges two cyclists on trail in Slovakia

Bear charge
A pair of cyclists were startled when a bear came charging toward them out of the woods near a bike trail in Slovakia.

Video shared to YouTube by Dusan Vinzik shows helmet camera footage of himself riding behind a friend on a trail in Malino Brdo when a bear emerged from nearby woods and charged at the cyclist in front.

The bear pursued Vinzik's friend for a few feet before turning off the trail and back toward the wooded area.

Vinzik's friend began cycling faster for a few feet and got off his before reaching the end of the trail where he would have been forced to turn back toward the bear's path.

Vinzik called out to his friend, who walked back down to the path, as the two regrouped to share in a sigh of relief.

Squaw Valley's season to remember is about to get even longer reports The Tahoe Weekly. In the recently published article, Squaw says it will keep running its Shirley lift for skiers and riders past July 4th for the first time in the resort's 68 year-long history. As of today, Squaw Valley has seen 714″ of snow and their base is a whopping 232″ DEEP.

The Shirley Lift access mostly northwestern facing slopes that have the ability to stick around through the mid-summer months. The weekly operational schedule will be shortened to weekends only starting in June and past July 4th, the ski area will stick to weekend operations with the Shirley chair becoming the sole lift option. Shirley will be accessible for 2017/2018 pass holders as well as those purchasing single day tickets. A closing date is still TBA but as Squaw Valley CEO Andy Wirth previously said, "I'm actually considering staying open through the summer and fall so it becomes the 16/17/18 season."

Shirley's northwest orientation will help that cause but only time will tell if Mr Wirth's dream is actually feasible.

It was a combination of volcanoes erupting in Mexico and New Guinea that are firmly documented. The combination of GSM cosmic ray increases that increased cloud cover, particulates and SO2 in the atmosphere change temperatures and rainfall patterns the world over. We should be preparing for the same volcanism as our Earth enters the new Grand Solar Minimum.

6-month-old baby dies after attack from pit bull in Las Vegas

Dog attack
A 6-month-old child was killed this afternoon after being attacked by a dog.

The incident occurred just before 1:15 p.m. on the 9100 block of West Brilliant Prairie Court, near West Centennial Parkway and North Fort Apache Road, according to Officer Laura Meltzer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The child was taken to Centennial Hills Hospital and later pronounced deceased.

The mother of the child was inside the home at the time. Police say their pit bull, for some reason, became agitated and bit the child. The mother immediately called 911. The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"This is something a lot of families can learn from," said LVMPD Officer Larry Hadfield. "It's an absolute tragedy, and regardless how trusting you are of your animals in your house, you have to make sure you are supervising."

Strong spring storm drops baseball-sized hail in Denver

A strong spring storm dropped a blanket of hail throughout much of Denver and prompted severe thunderstorm warnings across the Eastern Plains.

The National Weather Service warned of large hail and possible wind gusts of up to 70 mph (112 kph) along the Front Range on Monday afternoon. The storm moved quickly through downtown Denver, creating rivers of hail and a layer of ice on Coors Field ahead of a Colorado Rockies baseball game.

National Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Fredin says baseball-sized hail fell in the western Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge. He says "you gotta assume there's gonna be a lot" of damage from the storm, which is headed north of Denver at about 25 mph (40 kph).

Tornados are possible in the eastern part of the state through Monday.
