Students send mocking responses to woke survey, cause mass pearl-clutch in research group: Horrified, decry rise of 'fascism'

'Malicious responses' to the survey included identifying as 'illiterate' and as an 'attack helicopter'

Academic researchers condemned students' irreverent and offensive responses to an LGBTQ survey, claiming the pushback indicates "fascist ideologues" are "living 'inside the house' of engineering and computer science."

In an article for the Bulletin of Applied Transgender Studies, academics from Oregon State University wrote about their shock at receiving sarcasm and mockery in response to their research into undergraduate LGBTQ students studying in STEM fields.

The team claimed 50 of 349 responses to their questionnaire on the topic contained "slurs, hate speech, or direct targeting of the research team." Labeling them "malicious respondents," they adapted their project to examine how the joke responses "relate to engineering culture by framing them within larger social contexts — namely, the rise of online fascism."

Comment: People were venting their irritation and frustration at the relentless focus on 'woke issues'. As the Brits would say, the respondents were 'taking the mickey' at the expense of the pollsters, who apparently can not cope with not being taken seriously. By anyone . . . .
"The paper claimed that "managing the study's data collection caused significant personal distress, and time had to be taken off the project to heal from traumatic harm" of having to read students' responses in the survey."
Looks like Fox News beat out The Babylon Bee on this piece of hilarity.

Conservative MPs have launched an attempt to oust their colleague Tobias Ellwood as chair of the Commons defence select committee after he posted a video praising the Taliban for improving safety in Afghanistan.

Ellwood had sought to draw a line under the row, saying he was "sorry for my poor communication" after his actions outraged those in his own party and military veterans.

In a tweet and accompanying video, Ellwood described Afghanistan as a "country transformed" and talked up the group that seized power in August 2021, claiming "security has vastly improved, corruption is down and the opium trade has all but disappeared".

Trans-identified male removed from female homeless shelter after sexually harassing, threatening staff

uk church
A trans-identified male was removed from the female unit of a homeless shelter in Brighton after sexually harassing staff and suggesting that he had only transitioned in order to see women in intimate situations.

Chloe Dove, formerly known as Trevor Parnham, had police called on him by staff at St. Patrick's Night Hostel in Brighton and Hove after subjecting two staff members to threats and sexually abusive language and behavior.

According to Brighton and Hove News, which referred to Dove using "she/her" pronouns, a victim impact statement was read in court in which one male staff member said Dove had admitted to registering as "female" at the hostel because he wanted to see "hot totty." The British slang typically refers to sexually attractive women.

Comment: At least he was remanded to a male prison.

70+ looted ancient artefacts seized from Met museum trustee's home

Shelby White
© Dan Porges/Getty ImagesShelby White was described as a ‘profoundly generous supporter’ of the Met by its director. Treasures worth tens of millions of dollars 'ripped from their countries of origin' found at Manhattan flat of philanthropis.
Scores of looted artefacts worth tens of millions of dollars have been recovered from the home of a prominent trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, it has emerged.

Shelby White, 84, had amassed the collection with her late husband, Leon Levy, a Wall Street investor and philanthropist who died in 2003.

Comment: This may reveal the kind of 'philanthropists' these people were.

But following a lengthy investigation ordered by Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan District Attorney, 71 items have been taken from her home over the past two years, The New York Times reported.

Comment: And these are just the looted items that have come to light; one can only imagine how obscured history is with valuable items such as these being hidden away in the properties of the establishment and super wealthy.

Amsterdam to close cruise ship terminal in effort to restrict tourism not in line with 'sustainable ambitions'

Move by city council follows action to limit public cannabis use and to discourage wild partying by young Britons

Amsterdam's city council has decided to close a cruise ship terminal in its centre, in the latest attempt to limit mass tourism in the Dutch capital.

"Polluting cruise ships are not in line with the sustainable ambitions of our city," said a statement from the centre-right party D66, which runs the city with the social democrats PvdA and GroenLinks environmentalists.

The party also said the passage of cruise ships was not compatible with plans for a new bridge between the city's historic southern district and the Noord district, the focus of recent development projects.

Comment: It's likely China could find an engineering solution which would allow for both.

Other recent measures to restore quiet to the city's historic centre have included a ban on smoking cannabis on the streets of the red light district.

Comment: It's notable, and suspect, that whilst Amsterdam seems to be claiming to want to discourage these activities, elsewhere across the developed world countries are moving to decriminalize drug use: Swiss capital votes for legal cocaine, follows government permission for sale of cannabis

Comment: The comes on the heels of the global lockdowns that shuttered economies for nearly 2 years, as well as amidst soaring inflation and energy prices, which, altogether is leading to increasing numbers of businesses struggling to stay afloat, with many more going bankrupt. And so, whilst one could understand a desire to clean up the city in one way or another, one also can't help but see how this seems to be yet another attack on local economies, as is happening much more brazenly with the attack on farmers: Irish farmers revolt over gov'ts 'green' plan to cull 195,000 cattle, 'retirement scheme' offered to willing farmers

Judge rejects bid to vacate Jan. 6 conviction from 'QAnon Shaman'

q anon shaman
A federal judge denied "QAnon Shaman" Jacob Chansley's motion to vacate his January 6 conviction after withheld security footage showed Capitol Police officers appearing to escort him throughout the building.

Prosecutors charged Chansley with multiple crimes, including civil disorder, obstruction of an official proceeding, and entering and remaining in a restricted building. Chansley pleaded guilty to one felony of obstructing an official proceeding and was sentenced to 41 months in prison in November 2021.

After serving 27 months for his involvement in the Capitol riot, the self-proclaimed "evolutionary" had his sentence cut short amid the security footage in question aired by ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

Best of the Web: Fox News whistleblowers expose company's support for far-left charities, including The Satanic Temple

Fox News' viewership has historically leaned right and favored Republican causes. While the company wears a conservative face on air, it appears that behind closed doors, Fox is willing to lean left or in whatever other direction the wind is blowing.

Insiders have revealed to Blaze Media that Fox will subsidize some of the very activist groups that despise and seek the ruin of the network's viewers, evidencing a "complete disregard and hatred" for its core audience.

"Fox Giving" is an app in the company portal that facilitates charitable donations via the Canadian-based donation management platform Benevity. Fox will apparently match donations up to $1,000 to various organizations that satisfy the company's criteria.

Comment: On the one hand, the idea that the face presented by Fox to its audience is merely a mask is unsurprising when you think about it. This is what corporations do: present a virtuous face to the public which ranges from benign to overtly hypocritical. But on the other hand, maybe Fox knows full well that their rage-bait is highly dependent on the existence of their audience's "bad guys" and so wants to make sure that they don't run out of fuel for the outrage mill. The loss of Planned Parenthood, the SPLC, and the like would ultimately mean the loss of viewer clicks.

Best of the Web: Andrew Tate's betrayal of the West

Andrew Tate
The first time I heard the controversial social media personality Andrew Tate speak on women, Western society, and masculinity, I immediately thought that he was a radical Islamic extremist. A defector from the Taliban, perhaps? Over the next few months I would hear Tate make outlandish remarks such as, "Women should shut the f**k up, have kids, sit at home, be quiet and make coffee." And more: speaking of women in general, Tate said, "If I have a degree of responsibility over her, then I must have a degree of authority... You can't be responsible for a dog if it doesn't obey you."

So, when we learned on July 18, 2023, that Tate, who last year converted to Islam, was hoping for, and celebrating the fact of the imminent Islamization of Britain, I cannot say that I was surprised.

In response to the news of a Muslim billionaire winning the right to turn the Trocadero, one of London's most famous landmarks, into a mosque, Tate (Quran in hand in the photo above) expressed his delight. Here is what he had to say on Twitter:
This building is literally dead centre in the middle of London's historic centre. Amazing news. The only alternative to Islam for the brits are pride flags as they no longer have any innate culture or patriotisim [sic]. Allah is the best of planners and I look forward to seeing The Islamic republic of Great Britistan in her final form. Alhamdulillah Britain will be fully Islamic soon.

Comment: That pretty much sums up Tate. See also: Everything you need to know about sex-trafficking charges against Andrew Tate

Why TikTokers acting like "non-playable characters" is freaking everyone out

NPC streamers
© TiktokNPC streamers Pinky Doll, Cherry Crush, Natuecoco.
The woman in the video has bleached-blonde hair, vacant eyes, and poreless skin that glows with the help of multiple filters. When she speaks, it is in an endless stream of animal sounds, nonsensical phrases like "Ice cream, so good!" and an eerily realistic imitation of the sound of a balloon being popped. At first glance, it is hard to tell if she is actually human.

This is the point. The woman in the video, who goes by the screen name Pinky Doll, is an NPC streamer, a real person who makes money imitating a video game character imitating a real person. (The acronym NPC stands for "non-playable character" — the background actors in video games not controlled by the players themselves.)

The world of NPC streamers was thrust into the limelight recently when videos of Pinky Doll went viral on Twitter. Removed from her devoted fan base on TikTok, the creator's strange mannerisms and bizarre utterings spurred mass confusion and more than a few diatribes about the state of the modern world. The fact that she was also objectively attractive made the discourse irresistible, and soon, videos of other creators were making the rounds, too.

"I don't even think there's a Bible verse to help us deal with this," one Twitter user wrote. "We're in unchartered territory."

Video of deserted mall and streets in downtown San Fran reveals Democrats destroyed city

London Breed
© Eric Risberg/AP PhotoSan Francisco Mayor London Breed listens during a COVID-19 briefing outside City Hall in San Francisco, Calif. on Dec. 1, 2021.
A recent poll commissioned by Probolsky Research found 60% of voters in San Francisco "disapprove" of Mayor London Breed's performance, and only 22% believe she deserves re-election. There's plunging confidence among the business community that progressive leadership in the crime-ridden metro can revive the poop-infested downtown area. Businesses are closing up shops in droves, while some building owners have stopped payments on malls and hotels as the city's economic recovery appears bleak.

San Francisco Chamber of Commerce CEO Rodney Fong recently drew a dire historical parallel of the faltering metro area to the 1906 earthquake: "We have a lot of work to do as residents are more pessimistic than ever."

Marc Benioff, the chief executive officer of Salesforce, the city's largest employer and anchor tenant in its tallest skyscraper, warned this week that the metro area is in trouble.

Benioff offered this grim outlook: The downtown area is "never going back to the way it was" in pre-Covid times when workers commuted to offices daily.

"We need to rebalance downtown," Benioff said, adding Breed needs to initiate a program to convert dormant office space into housing and hire additional law enforcement to restore law and order.

San Francisco's demise is much more than just the remote or hybrid work narrative, and a record 30% of office space is vacant. Remember, without office workers, local shops can't thrive.

This leaves us with Youtuber METAL LEO, who walked the downtown area, revealing empty streets and closed-up stores.

He wrote in the description of the video, "Embarcadero Center is a commercial complex of five office towers, two hotels, a shopping center with more than 125 stores but only two remain open on three levels located in San Francisco, California."
