British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is hosting crisis talks with the Libyan prime minister in an attempt to tackle a political standoff preventing Tripoli's UN-brokered unity government from expanding its authority outside the capital.

Monday's meeting, hosted by Johnson and US Secretary of State John Kerry, comes as Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Seraj faces stiff resistance to his rule. Representatives from France, Italy, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are also attending the talks.

"The goal in London is to ... see if we can make some progress and get beyond the stalemate, which is preventing the [Tripoli] government from doing what it needs to do," Kerry told Reuters.

"Libyans are going to have to find a way forward even in the absence of any cooperation; you can't allow a small number of spoilers to destroy an entire country."

Comment: With Kerry and Johnson heading these talks, nothing good for Libya will come from it. After all it was NATO who destroyed the country in the first place.

Comment: For the West it's all about control of the oil and the money. There will be no end in the bombing and destruction of Libya until the West gets its wish:

The defeat of Islamic State militants in their Iraqi stronghold Mosul may spark terrorist attacks across Europe, the head of the German Federal Office for Protection of the Constitution (BfV), Hans-Georg Maassen, has said.

Speaking to German media outlet Deutschlandfunk, Maassen acknowledged that the jihadists "possibly stand with their backs to the wall" and can "effectively face defeat" in the Iraqi city, adding that the BfV is "closely watching the situation in Mosul."

In a new wave of post-coup purges, Turkish authorities have arrested the editor-in-chief and several columnists of the independent Cumhuriyet newspaper, also raiding the homes of the paper's executives, who are currently under investigation.

In the early hours of Monday morning, police raided the houses of Cumhuriyet Editor-in-Chief Murat Sabuncu, Executive Board Chairman Akın Atalay, and board member and writer Guray Oz.

Sabuncu and Oz have been taken into custody, Cumhuriyet correspondent Mahir Zeynalov tweeted.

The inner workings of Facebook and how Clinton loyalists control your newsfeed

clinton facebook
Censorship by Facebook has become a thorn in the side of nearly anyone with an opinion differing from the narrative touted by the corporate press — for instance, sentiments not praising Hillary Clinton — and now, through both a new report from Reuters and emails published by Wikileaks, we have insight into why certain posts are targeted.

Facebook relies on a combination of artificial intelligence and human judgment to remove posts deemed offensive, violent, or otherwise unacceptable to its community standards — but precisely how the ultimate call to take down posts, pages, and groups are made remains unknown.

And Facebook takedowns, no matter the improvements to the process the social media behemoth claims to make, have been no less controversial or questionable — and those whose posts are censored have little if any recourse to argue their case.

Recent examples of head-scratchers which led to an international uproar, include Facebook's removal of the iconic Vietnam War photograph of Phan Thị Kim Phúc — who, at just 9-years-old, was captured on film by an Associated Press photographer fleeing the aftermath of an errant napalm attack near a Buddhist pagoda in the village of Trang Bang.

Air Strip One: Drone operator job ads suggest US military is flying African kill missions from Britain

Despite strenuous denials by the military, leaked job descriptions appear to show US drone operators are flying kill missions from UK soil.

If the claims by a humanitarian NGO are correct, the UK may be willingly hosting operations which breach international law.

While the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has blasted the allegation as a mere "conspiracy theory," one ad seen by the charity Reprieve appears to be recruiting for an all source analyst to be based at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire to support US military operations in Africa.

Comment: They don't call it the ANGLO-American Empire for nothing.

Is Guy Fawkes back to finish the job? Parliament evacuated in security drill days before Bonfire Night

Were British police preparing for a second gunpowder plot when they evacuated Parliament on Monday morning? Metropolitan Police officers evacuated all staff from the House of Commons in what appears to have been a pre-arranged security drill.

Bystanders and political journalists tweeted photos of hundreds of people waiting outside the historic Palace of Westminster in the autumn sunshine.

Given the security exercise comes five days before Bonfire Night, it begs the question: are Britain's security chiefs on standby for the return of Guy Fawkes?

Questionable NGO claims 'modern' slavery is the dirty secret behind Hong Kong's wealth

Hong Kong is one the world's ten richest cities in terms of GDP, and has one of the highest proportions of people enslaved across Asia, according to a survey from the Walk Free Foundation charity.

The Global Slavery Index 2016 suggests there are 45.8 million people trapped in modern slavery in the world. In Hong Kong that could be as many as 30,000 people.

The city with a population of more than seven million has become one of the worst places in Asia for its poor response to the problem, the report said. "Hong Kong has taken relatively limited action due to low level of recognition that modern slavery occurs," and is performing worse than mainland China.

Comment: Hong Kong is right to question the NGO report. Collecting this data is a tremendous task that even the US government gave up trying to collect. There are many problems with this report:
The Global Slavery Index: Helpful or Harmful?

A major weakness of the Index is the extrapolation process used to estimate prevalence and absolute numbers for the "hidden" figure of those enslaved. Since 2014, survey questions based on the possible occurrence of forced labor have been incorporated into Gallup's World Poll, but only in 25 countries (and seven of those countries' estimates reflect survey data from 2014). Survey data is then extrapolated to the remaining 139 countries, which are now grouped into twelve clusters (the number of clusters has doubled since 2014). The extrapolation process also uses some secondary sources, taking into account additional factors such as state-sanctioned forced labor and conflict.

Year over year estimates are questionable as well. In 2014, the total number of those estimated to be enslaved was roughly 36 million. In 2016, that number is now estimated to be 45.8 million. Has the number of those enslaved globally actually risen - meaning the problem is getting worse, or should we attribute this increase to a larger sample size? Either way, there is no mention of past years' results or analysis to assess the rise or fall in numbers year to year.

Another area of major contention is the stipulations in which the primary random-sample survey data was collected. Most notably, the sample size was extremely small. In the 25 countries where surveys have been administered, roughly 1000 random families were sampled in each country (with the exception of Russia and India, with 2000 and 3000 surveys, respectively). In Pakistan, where the population is roughly 182 million, the representative sample amounts to .00001 percent of citizens, which arguably is too small of a sample to be representative.

Lavrov lays it out: West will be 'Al-Nusra accomplice' if it fails to separate Syrian rebels from terrorists

If the West fails to exert pressure on opposition groups in Syria and force them to separate from Al-Nusra Front, this will make them "accomplices" of terrorists, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

"The fact that not only [United Nations Special Envoy for Syria] Steffan de Mistura but also Western media now say that it is Jabhat Al-Nusra [Al-Nusra Front] which attacks government positions in the south-western part of Aleppo proves that no one can turn a blind eye anymore," Lavrov said at a news briefing in Moscow on Monday.

"We call on our international partners, you have influence over opposition groups to ask them to separate from Al-Nusra. If this does not happen, they are making themselves accomplices of Al-Nusra," he added.

On Sunday, de Mistura said he is "appalled and shocked by the high number of rockets indiscriminately launched by armed opposition groups" that have killed scores of civilians in Aleppo over the last 48 hours.

The loosening grip - a beginner's guide to the death throes of empire

hillary warmonger
Oh good. The world reaches a crossroads, or probably a road off a cliff, just when I want to relax and watch gratuitous violence on the tube. To judge by the rapid drift of events aboard our planetary asylum, the talons of Washington and New York on the world's throat are fast being pried a-loose. The Global American Imperium is dying. Or so it sure looks anyway.

I say talons of "New York and Washington" because America's foreign policy, forged in those two cities, belongs entirely to them. Americans have no influence on it. Further, none of of what the Empire does abroad is of any benefit to Americans. Do you care at all what happens in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, or the South China Sea? Do you want to pay for it? America has been hijacked.

WikiLeaks fires off 24th batch of #PodestaEmails from Killary campaign chair

WikiLeaks has published its 24th batch of emails from the hacked account of Hillary Clinton's campaign chair John Podesta.

The organization has released more than 39,000 emails from Podesta's account and has pledged to bring the total number up to 50,000 before the November 8 election.

Among the revelations from Sunday's tranche of leaked emails was the Clinton campaign team's suspicions that the House Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman, Republican Trey Gowdy, was selectively leaking information from the committee.

Other emails released Sunday included a conversation between Podesta and Chelsea Clinton on 'compromised' technology during visits to China, while another chain of emails offered insight into Podesta's own doubts on Hillary Clinton's chances of securing the Democratic nomination.

Comment: Why does anyone still support Killary and her slimy organization?
