Best of the Web: US escalates drive for regime change in Venezuela; military pledges allegiance to Maduro

The electoral body blamed a cyberattack for delays but said it counted 80 percent of the votes and that these show Maduro's victory to be "irreversible." As of this writing, the CNE website is still down, and no further results have been published.

As expected, the Biden administration, its puppet regimes in the region, and the US-funded Unitary Platform have refused to acknowledge the results. In a response clearly coordinated beforehand, US imperialism is instead using the elections to escalate its efforts for regime change.

Washington has repeatedly employed failed attempts to kidnap and kill the Venezuelan leadership, brutal sanctions to starve the population into submission and threats of a military invasion — all aimed at pressuring sections of the Venezuelan military and ruling circles to oust the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Comment: More up to date developments include the typical regime change nonsense, such as knocking down statues, arson, with some of the stooges being caught; alongside pro-Maduro and democracy protests; and a military declaration in support of Maduro:

Regarding the escalation, Laura Knight-Jadcyzk writes :

Anybody who supports the US attempted coup in Venezuela also supports the Deep State which is provably the enemy of Donald Trump and the American people as well as many peoples all over the world. The United States has a long history of overthrowing foreign governments. Here's a short list:

1. Hawaii (1893): A group of American sugar planters and businessmen, supported by U.S. military forces, overthrew Queen Liliʻuokalani, leading to the annexation of Hawaii by the United States in 1898.

2. Cuba (1898): The U.S. intervened in the Cuban War of Independence against Spain, leading to the Spanish-American War. Following Spain's defeat, the U.S. occupied Cuba and established a protectorate, influencing Cuban politics for decades.

3. Philippines (1898): After defeating Spain, the U.S. took control of the Philippines, leading to the Philippine-American War. The U.S. suppressed a Filipino independence movement, establishing control over the islands.

4. Guatemala (1954): The CIA orchestrated a coup to overthrow President Jacobo Árbenz, who had initiated land reforms affecting the interests of the United Fruit Company. This intervention plunged Guatemala into a prolonged civil war.

5. Iran (1953): The CIA and British intelligence services organized a coup to overthrow Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh after he nationalized the oil industry. The coup restored the Shah to power, leading to decades of authoritarian rule.

6. Chile (1973): The U.S. supported a military coup that overthrew President Salvador Allende, who had pursued socialist policies. General Augusto Pinochet's subsequent dictatorship was marked by widespread human rights abuses.

7. Vietnam (1963): The U.S. supported the coup against South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem, who was seen as an obstacle to American military objectives in the region. His assassination led to the Vietnam War.

8. Panama (1989): The U.S. invaded Panama to depose General Manuel Noriega, who had been involved in drug trafficking and had become increasingly uncooperative with U.S. policies.

9. Afghanistan (2001): Following the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. led a coalition to overthrow the Taliban regime, which had harbored al-Qaeda terrorists. This intervention initiated a prolonged conflict in the region. And, at the end, Afghanistan was returned to the Taliban along with millions of dollars of US equipment.

10. Iraq (2003): The U.S. invaded Iraq, toppling Saddam Hussein's regime under the pretext of eliminating weapons of mass destruction, which were never found. The invasion led to long-term instability in the region and killed well over a million Iraqis.

11. Libya (2011): During the Arab Spring, the U.S. and NATO allies launched a military intervention in Libya to support rebels against Muammar Gaddafi's regime. The intervention led to Gaddafi's overthrow and death, but also resulted in ongoing civil war and instability in Libya which is ongoing.

12. Ukraine (2014): The U.S. supported the Euromaidan protests that led to the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych. This intervention was part of a broader geopolitical struggle between the West and Russia, contributing to the annexation of Crimea by Russia and the ongoing conflict in Eastern Ukraine and the deaths of probably a million Ukrainians.

These interventions reflect a pattern of U.S. foreign policy driven by greed hidden under a combination of shields that include strategic interests, economic motives, and ideological goals. Note that these interventions have significant and lasting consequences for the affected countries and their populations.

Now, specifically regarding Venezuela, the reader should consult the work of Anya Parampil Journalist @TheGrayzoneNews and author of "Corporate Coup: Venezuela and the End of US Empire."

She wrote the following on X yesterday:

Don't turn off your critical thinking skills just because you have been told Venezuela is "socialist" your whole life. The Venezuelan opposition have claimed fraud and contested virtually every election that they have lost since Chávez came to power. Yet they can never provide evidence, and that is because Venezuela's electoral process is far more secure than what we have in the United States. I describe the voting process in the country, which I have observed firsthand, in my book, Corporate Coup:

"In Venezuela, voting machines were activated through a two-step verification process consisting of a physical check of the voter's national identity card and a digital scan of their fingerprint. After casting their vote, the voter received a physical receipt of their ballot which they then personally dropped in a secure box on site. The voter then signed their name and stamped their thumbprint on a physical electoral registry to certify their participation. When polls closed, authorities assuaged fears of digital vote tampering by checking their final electronic tally against a random sampling of 54 percent of the physical ballot receipts submitted by voters at polling stations."
Citizen and international observers are present throughout this process. Do not fall for claims of fraud unless hard evidence is produced. Especially because further escalation in Venezuela will only result in civil conflict and perhaps even regional war in the Western hemisphere. You think our border looks bad now? Wait until Washington turns up the heat on Caracas. Oh — and the Russian military has strong military ties with Venezuela and a presence within the country. We are not only talking about regional war here, but an expansion of the World War currently raging against Russia and its allied rising powers. Are you ready for that war to hit "Washington's backyard"?

One more point: the vast majority of Venezuela's economy — hotels, restaurants, stores — are privately owned and operated. Venezuela's "socialism" is largely defined by the fact its industries, including its oil sector and precious mineral reserves, are nationally operated. This makes Venezuela comparable to Russia and many other modern states that consider the natural resources stored within the nation to be the property of the Republic rather than a few at the top. Venezuela is an obsession in Washington because before Chávez, US and European companies practically owned the country and the IMF set its domestic economic agenda. Venezuela is home to the largest oil and untapped gold reserves in the world. This is why Americans have been inundated with propaganda about Venezuela since it began the process of asserting sovereign ownership over that natural wealth. That is what their "socialism" is primarily about.

You can, on the other hand, listen to the shills for the Deep State such as Anthony Blinken and Elon Musk. Up to you.

For those intrigued by the covert operations of the CIA and its impact on global politics, L. Fletcher Prouty's "The Secret Team" is a must-read. As a staunch critic of the CIA, Prouty unveils the agency's unchecked influence on international affairs, often operating beyond the oversight of U.S. Congress and government. His works provide a deep dive into the CIA's origins, the Cold War's inception, the infamous U-2 incident, the Vietnam War, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Prouty boldly claimed that JFK's assassination was a coup d'état orchestrated by a secretive global "power elite" determined to protect its interests by any means necessary, even at the expense of democracy. According to Prouty, elements within the U.S. intelligence and military communities conspired to eliminate Kennedy to prevent him from reining in the CIA following the Bay of Pigs fiasco. He pointed to Edward Lansdale, whom he referred to as "General Y" in Oliver Stone's film JFK, as a key orchestrator, even identifying Lansdale in photographs of the so-called "three tramps."

In "The Secret Team," Prouty presents a provocative alternative account of the 1960 U-2 incident, suggesting that anti-communist factions within the U.S. government sabotaged the flight, leading to its downing by Soviet forces. He argued that this was a deliberate ploy to derail the improving U.S.-Soviet relations and scuttle the promising Four Power Paris Summit between Khrushchev and Eisenhower. The fallout from this incident, Prouty contended, was instrumental in collapsing the summit and exacerbating Cold War tensions.

Prouty's work is a compelling exploration of hidden power structures and their far-reaching implications, making it essential reading for anyone interested in the shadowy side of international relations.

USA

There's a surprising reason US is a rogue actor on the international stage

Together with its allies in London, Washington plays by rules of its own.

Over the past few weeks, the media focus on the spectacle that is the US presidential election campaign has been relentless. The incumbent Joe Biden's disastrous debate with his opponent from the Republican Party, Donald Trump; then the latter's miraculous survival following an assassination attempt; the choice of Trump's running mate; and, finally, the change in the candidate of the ruling Democrats. As a result, Vice President Kamala Harris - who has not yet proved herself in any way - has entered the fray.

The whole mess is accompanied by a huge amount of conflicting information and opinions that are sprinkled liberally at the general public, creating a sort of emotional seesaw effect. To some extent, observers in other countries are also in danger of being caught up in the frenzy.

Russia, too, is used to paying close attention to political struggles in the West. This habit has long been part of our political culture - the Russian state was created primarily out of foreign policy necessity. However, I would like this tradition to remain at the level of mere curiosity, and not to create expectations about one or another outcome of America's internal struggles.

Comment: Levers of control are working when targets unequivocally believe they have 'choice'.

The deep state bet the farm on taking Trump out, now what?

D and M
It's gone horribly wrong for the deep state. Getting rid of Donald Trump using a set-up lone assassin on July 13 would have tipped the presidential race in favor of Joe Biden.

But it didn't work out. And from the deep state's point of view, it couldn't get much worse. Trump escaped with a grazed ear and an iconic photo opportunity as an American hero propelling him to take back the White House. The G-force lift in political momentum has finally compelled Biden to throw in the towel whose frailty is no match for the energized Trump campaign.

Key players in the U.S. establishment - the imperial deep state - took a bet out of necessity. Trump is not their kind of guy. He's been talking too much about ending a lucrative war racket in Ukraine against Russia. But there's too much-vested interest in keeping that proxy war going. It's not just about profits for the military-industrial complex and Wall Street. It's also about geopolitically confronting Russia to preserve U.S. hegemony.

Trump's avowed opposition to the racket and his pledge to end the conflict immediately if he is elected in November put him in the crosshairs.

There's a close similarity to the case of John F Kennedy. JFK was against ramping up the proxy war against the Soviet Union in Vietnam and more generally he wanted to scale back the Cold War. His opposition to the huge vested interests of the deep state led to the "executive action" in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

Comment: There are no winners. There never were. At best, Trump is 'the luck of the draw'.

'Smell of peace in the air' - former Russian deputy PM

koch

Western powers' reluctance to boost lethal aid to Ukraine means the situation on the frontline is unlikely to improve for Kiev, according to former Russian deputy prime minister Alfred Koch. The Yeltsin-era official, who took office in 1997 under then-premier Viktor Chernomyrdin, now reportedly lives in Germany and keeps 'war diaries' on the Ukraine conflict.

Koch wrote on Telegram on Monday:
"In general, there are already so many peace plans, from the very real Orban plan to the mythical Erdogan plan, that there is a definite smell of peace in the air. Only European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wants to fight forever and promises unwavering support to Ukraine."
However, von der Leyen has no weapons, he said, noting:
"German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other leaders of EU states are not ready to sharply increase military supplies to Ukraine. Without such a breakthrough, the situation on the frontline is unlikely to significantly change in Ukraine's favor... And this has finally been understood in Kiev."

Comment: There is a smell in the air. Doubtful it is peace.

Two top House security aides under then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi got stark warnings from police the night before the Jan. 6 riots that protesters might try to breach the U.S. Capitol through its tunnel systems and block lawmakers from voting to certify Joe Biden's presidential election win, according to newly obtained memos and text messages.

The documents obtained by Just the News also confirm that Pelosi's team played a role in the botched security planning for that fateful day.

"We have identified numerous open source comments indicating groups intentions of finding the tunnel entrances and confronting/blocking the MOCs (Members of Congress)," Capitol Police Deputy Chief Sean Gallagher wrote Deputy House Sergeant at Arms Tim Blodgett at 8:55 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2021 in an email that got forwarded less than an hour later to Blodgett's boss, then-Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving. The second time is listed in UTC, or Coordinated Universal Time.

Comment: Why would Pelosi say anything? The Democrats have had four years of making hay at Trump's expense over the lie, with the help of the MSM and Big Tech. Now that the truth is coming out, the damage has long been done.

Putin issues warning of 'reciprocal response' to US placing missiles in Germany

putin navy day warns missile germany

The Russian president has accused the West of clinging to a Cold War mentality

Russia will consider itself free from a moratorium on the deployment of medium and shorter-range missiles if the US places missiles in Germany, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said in an address to sailors at the Navy Day parade in St. Petersburg.

Earlier this month, the US and Germany announced plans to deploy long-range precision missile systems in Europe. According to a joint US-German press release dated July 10, the US "will begin episodic deployments of the long-range fires capabilities of its Multi-Domain Task Force in Germany in 2026."

Putin called this announcement "noteworthy," as such a deployment will put important Russian state and military facilities, administrative and industrial centers, as well as defense infrastructure within the reach of the weapons. He noted that the flight time of such missiles to targets on Russian territory would be about ten minutes, and that they could also be equipped with nuclear warheads.

Yeah, right. Facebook admits censoring iconic Trump assassination attempt photo 'was an error'

Google was previously accused of censoring search results for the assassination attempt against Trump

Facebook wrongly called the popular image of Donald Trump pumping his fist in the air after an assassination attempt against him an "altered photo," a spokesperson admitted Monday.

Users across X shared reports that their Facebook accounts were labeling the image as "altered", explaining "Independent fact-checkers reviewed a similar photo and said it was altered in a way that could mislead people."

Meta Public Affairs Director Dani Lever later explained on X it was done in error as the systems were meant to detect a separate version of the image.

Comment: Big Tech busted by X users again. Say what you will about Musk, it's the only platform that made it possible for this information to get out.

The Venezuelan president has been re-elected with 51.2% of the vote

Nicolas Maduro has won Venezuela's presidential election, according to official results. The leaders of Russia and China have congratulated the head of state on securing a third term.

The head of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, announced shortly after midnight on Sunday that with 80% of ballots counted, Maduro had secured more than 51% of the vote, compared to 44% for his main rival, Edmundo Gonzales.

Addressing supporters in Caracas, Maduro has described his victory as "a triumph of peace and stability." The Venezuelan opposition has fiercely disputed the result, claiming election rules were violated, and Gonzales has also claimed victory.

Opposition leader Marina Corina Machado, who was barred by a court from running for office over corruption-related charges, has rejected Maduro's victory, claiming: "We won and the whole world knows it."

NATO states tell citizens to leave Lebanon

Israel and the militant group Hezbollah are on the brink of a full-blown war

Several NATO members including the US have issued travel warnings for Lebanon, urging their citizens to immediately leave the country in the face of a potential full-blown war between Israel and the pro-Palestinian armed group Hezbollah.

Tensions rapidly escalated on Saturday when a rocket strike killed 12 children in the Druze city of Majdan Shams, in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the projectile was an Iranian-made Falaq-1 rocket fired by Hezbollah from southern Lebanon. The militants, however, denied any involvement in the strike.

The question is who really fired the rocket when: "The militants, however, denied any involvement in the strike." Of course it may have been Hezbollah or the Iranians, but what if it is not? We know that Israel would not mind a pretext for expanding the war. The news about the strike has gone around the world and for a short moment replaced the routine news of people dying from Israeli bombings in Gaza.

The Times of Israel wrote:
Anger and grief mix as Majdal Shams buries 10 children killed in rocket strike'
Lebanon should burn for this,' says one resident amid calls in Druze town for IDF to strike back hard against Hezbollah, and for Israel to do more to protect northern residents
The children killed belonged to the Druze faith which for context deserves an introduction. The Wiki has:
The Druze (/ˈdruːz/DROOZ;[19]Arabic: دَرْزِيّ, darzī or دُرْزِيّ durzī, pl. دُرُوز, durūz), who call themselves al-Muwaḥḥidūn (lit. 'the monotheists' or 'the unitarians'),[20] are an Arab and Arabic-speaking esotericethnoreligious group[21][22][23][24] from West Asia who adhere to the Druze faith, an Abrahamic, monotheistic, syncretic, and ethnic religion whose main tenets assert the unity of God, reincarnation, and the eternity of the soul.[25][26][27][28]

Most Druze religious practices are kept secret.[29] The Druze do not permit outsiders to convert to their religion. Marriage outside the Druze faith is rare and strongly discouraged. The Druze maintain Arabic language and culture as integral parts of their identity, and Arabic is their primary language.[30][31]

The Epistles of Wisdom is the foundational and central text of the Druze faith.[32] The Druze faith originated in Isma'ilism (a branch of Shia Islam),[33] and was influenced by Christianity,[34][35]Gnosticism, Neoplatonism,[34][35]Zoroastrianism,[36][37]Gandharan Buddhism, Manichaeism[38][39]Pythagoreanism,[40][41] and other philosophies and beliefs, creating a distinct and secretive theology based on an esoteric interpretation of scripture, which emphasizes the role of the mind and truthfulness.[20][41] Druze believe in theophany and reincarnation.[42]

The Druze believe that at the end of the cycle of rebirth, which is achieved through successive reincarnations, the soul is united with the Cosmic Mind (al-ʻaql al-kullī).[43]
There is also:
Some scholars maintain that Israel has tried to separate the Druze from other Arab communities, and that the effort has influenced the way Israel's Druze perceive their modern identity.[150][151] Survey data suggests that Israeli Druze prioritize their identity first as Druze (religiously), second as Arabs (culturally and ethnically), and third as Israelis (citizenship-wise).[152] A small minority of them identify as Palestinians, distinguishing them from the majority of other Arab citizens of Israel, who predominantly identify as Palestinians.[153]
According to the Wiki there are 143,000 Druze believers in Israel and the Golan heights, 250,000 in Lebanon and 600,000 in Syria.

The rocket attack on the Druze children did not benefit Hezbollah, Iran or the Druze. It benefitted somebody else.

Update about the missile that hit Majdal Shams: Al Mayadeen English carried an article on 28 Jul 2024 23:47 by Ali Halawi:
Did an Israeli Iron Dome missile cause the Majdal Shams massacre?
Skipping the details, the article ends:
A Tamir missile launched from a nearby position is likely to contain a substantial amount of fuel, as the air defense rocket was designed to fly for around 70 km. This means that the majority of the fuel meant for the missile's flight after take-off detonated and produced the fireball seen in the video.

Despite Israeli assertions of a Hezbollah attack using a Falaq-1 rocket, substantial analysis points towards a malfunctioning Israeli Tamir interceptor missile as the more plausible cause of the explosion. The discrepancies in crater size, the nature of the explosion, and Hezbollah's historical targeting patterns all support this alternative explanation. The true story behind the Majdal Shams explosion remains shrouded, but the evidence presented here offers a compelling case for reconsidering the initial narrative.

With Biden out of the 2024 race, what's the Deep State's next move?

Kamal

The 81-year-old US head of state has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be picked as the Democratic Party nominee for the upcoming elections. Will this controversial shift drive a wedge between liberals long into the future?

Joe Biden's eleventh-hour decision not to run marks a history-making change in the 2024 presidential race less than a month before the Democratic National Convention, which will kick off on August 19. Just after announcing that he would not be seeking the party's nomination, Biden, who has said he would remain in the Oval Office until after a new leader is sworn in, announced in a tweet that Harris, 59, has his "full support and endorsement" to be the Democratic presidential nominee. This is where things promise to get ugly.
