Russian submarines have fired Kalibr cruise missiles from the Mediterranean hitting terrorist targets in Syria, the Defense Ministry said. The strikes were to support Syrian troops waging ground offensive in Deir-ez-Zor province.

The submarines 'Veliky Novgorod' and 'Kolpino' launched 10 missiles on Thursday when patrolling the Mediterranean, ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov told reporters.

The spokesman said the submarines fired the missiles while submerged.

Before the missile strikes, Russian surveillance detected Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) targets in Deir-ez-Zor province, including command centers, large ammunition depots and hangars housing terrorists' armored vehicles, the ministry added.

"To hit these targets, Velikiy Novgorod and Kolpino submarines of the Black Sea Fleet have performed two multiple launches of Kalibr cruise missiles from the Mediterranean," the spokesman said.

The targets were located outside the Syrian town of Meyadin, he added.

The events which have been taking place after the 2016 presidential elections in the United States are an anomaly, yet Russia is ready for any format of cooperation with Washington, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

"We understand very well the anomaly that unfolded in the US political landscape as a result of the elections which the Democratic party still cannot get over. We will not accept the attempts to ingrain into this discussion the accusation that Russia is responsible for everything negative in the United States. We are glad that there are people in the United States alongside the US leadership who care about the development of our relations. We are open to any forms of cooperation which would be mutually beneficial, our US partners know this," Lavrov said at a meeting with US experts.

Russia hopes that pragmatism will prevail in the United States, the countries should work to resolve many issues together, Lavrov added.

Facebook intends to cooperate more with lawmakers in Russiagate investigation

Facebook is shifting its strategy with Congress, signaling that it intends to be more cooperative with lawmakers investigating whether groups with Russian ties used the social media giant's ad platform to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Still, lawmakers say they don't completely trust Facebook after the company rebuffed their initial demands for details about potential Russian influence. Instead, they say Facebook is only cooperating because of the pressure it faces.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Facebook is only cooperating because of pressure from lawmakers. On Monday, Facebook gave the committee 3,000 ads connected to Russia's election interference efforts.

Comment: These lawmakers can't seem to grasp that maybe they've not found any evidence of Russian meddling because there simply isn't any. Unfortunately, this means that they'll run roughshod over privacy rights until they get the non-existent goods.

Russia opens its doors to Saudi Arabia and presents opportunity for Middle Eastern stability

Saudi Arabia Russia
Yesterday witnessed the first arrival of a Saudi monarch on Russian soil and today, the largest Saudi delegation ever to visit Russia, is currently thrashing out the details of multiple bilateral deals in energy and other commercial areas.

The event has confounded many expectations as well as confused many pundits who view geo-political relations, purely on ideological terms. In reality, Saudi Arabia needs Russia and Russia is happy to work with any business partner whose relations can bring something positive to the Russian economy.

A $1 billion joint investment fund related to energy projects has already been established between Saudi and Russia, the details of which will likely emerge this week. Furthermore, a statement from Russia declares, "the leaders (of government and businesses) will consider joint steps to further develop bilateral cooperation in the trade, economic, investment and cultural-humanitarian areas".

Comment: Ideological alliances and opposition forces and are at the core of the West's development and power. While ideologies mean little to the Western elite, they're mighty tools for maintaining control through dominating allegiance as well as sowing discord and chaos. Russia and China are excluding the ideological framework of global relationships. Instead, they are focusing on mutually beneficial economic partnerships. They are also offering upfront and immediate assistance wherever needed. Russia has applied this strategy to the gaping wounds of the Middle East, and the world is seeing results. There is still much work to be done (and we can be sure the US will continue to fight for its dying empire), but it is clear that some very interesting changes are afoot.

Donors of anti-Trump "resistance", Center for Community Change, revealed in unredacted tax forms

The hidden donors to a prominent anti-Trump "resistance" organization are revealed in unredacted tax forms obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The Center for Community Change Action, a Washington, D.C.-based progressive community organizing group that does not reveal its donors, has been involved in direct action against President Donald Trump and Republicans before and after the November elections. The organization's members sit on the boards of other prominent liberal activist groups.

The Free Beacon has obtained the group's unredacted 2015 tax forms that shed light on its funders, who provide millions of dollars in assistance. The group appears to rely heavily on a few major liberal foundations, organizations, and unions.

The Center for Community Change's largest contribution was $3,000,000 from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which was initially created by Will Kellogg, the food manufacturer and founder of Kellogg Company. The Ford Foundation, which was first created by the founders of the Ford Motor Company, added a $2,350,000 donation. The Open Society Foundation, a foundation run by liberal billionaire mega-donor George Soros, gave $1,750,000 to the Center for Community Change.

Convenient scapegoat Russia blamed for 'meddling' in Catalan independence crisis despite taking no position on referendum

While the chorus of voices accusing Russia of meddling in other nations' affairs has been largely concentrated in the U.S., on occasion the Russians have also been used as convenient scapegoats for the resurgence of populism and other "anti-establishment" positions in the European Union. For instance, France's recent election and the rise of Marine Le Pen were blamed on Russia without evidence, as was the increased popularity of the right-wing German political party Alternative for Germany (AfD).

Now the secession crisis in Spanish Catalonia and the chaos that enveloped the region's recent independence referendum have become the latest headache for a Western government. Predictably, this has resulted in yet more accusations leveled against the Russian government by Spain's establishment press, despite the fact the Russian government took no position on the referendum.

North Korea would have to be stupid to trust the U.S.

US North Korea flag
To many mainstream pundits, the solution to the crisis in Korea is for U.S. officials to sit down and "talk" to North Korea in the hopes of negotiating a mutually beneficial agreement. While it won't guarantee that a deal will be worked out, they say, "talking" is the only chance there is to resolve the crisis.

They ignore an important point: Any deal that would be reached would involve trusting the U.S. government to keep its end of the bargain. And trusting the U.S. government would be the stupidest thing North Korea could ever do. That's because as soon as U.S. officials found it advantageous, they would break the deal and pounce on North Korea, with the aim of achieving the regime change they have sought ever since the dawn of the Cold War more than 70 years ago.

Unhinged madman Avigdor Lieberman: Next war with Israel will have "very heavy prices"

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman

Israel's war minister Avigdor Lieberman warned on Monday that the next war is likely to feature attacks on population centers and civilians, according to Haaretz daily.

Avigdor Lieberman, who took part on Monday evening in a ceremony in which certificates of honor were awarded to 31 Israeli officers and soldiers from various units in the army, said: "The next confrontation, if it breaks out, will take on a completely different character, when our enemies will try to strike first at population centers and civilian infrastructure. So we will not have the luxury to wage a long war."

Comment: What this actually reveals: Lieberman and his fellow psychiatric ward inmates plan to strike population centers and civilian infrastructure - as Israel always does. This statement is just a preemptive justification.

"We live in a new reality of a new Middle East, which is much worse than the old Middle East. And in this terrible new reality, we have yet to face difficult tests," he added.

"Any confrontation will have to be conducted from the very first moment in the highest profile, using all the army's strengths," Lieberman continued. "If there is a crossing of red lines, the other side must know in advance that it is going to pay very heavy prices."

Comment: Typical Israeli red line: responding, in any way, shape or form, to an Israeli attack.

"The sovereign, too, regardless of whether he controls his territory or not - as soon as a hostile action takes place, the sovereign will also bear all the responsibility," the war minister further threatened.

Comment: This isn't just Lieberman warning aggressors that they will be held responsible. It is telling them that they will be held responsible, regardless of whether or not they actually are. That's Israeli justice.

More weapons, explosives stolen from an IDF base in "Northern Israel"

A large quantity of military-grade weaponry and ammunition, including explosive devices, was stolen from an emergency military armory at an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) combat engineers base in northern Israel.

Soldiers from the 601st Battalion, stationed at an outpost in the Golan Heights, on Monday discovered the disappearance of emergency weapons and ammunition from a military warehouse during a routine stock count. They immediately reported the breach to their commanders, and military investigators promptly arrived at the scene.

Among other items, investigators discovered a shortfall in the number of 5.56 mm diameter bullets, 40mm diameter bullets, M16 detonators and anti-tank mines, all of which is now likely to land in the hands of local crime syndicates or terrorists.

Comment: So the Israelis apparently can't afford a simple surveillance camera or security system for their armories? It's probably for the best. "Theft" is such a good cover for getting weapons into the black market.
