The anatomy of US nervous breakdown

"This country has been having a nationwide nervous breakdown since 9/11. A nation of people suddenly broke, the market economy goes to shit, and they're threatened on every side by an unknown, sinister enemy. But I don't think fear is a very effective way of dealing with things-of responding to reality. Fear is just another word for ignorance."-Hunter S. Thompson, gonzo journalist

Another shooting, another day in America.

Or so it seems.

With alarming regularity, the nation is being subjected to a spate of violence that terrorizes the public, destabilizes the country's fragile ecosystem, and gives the government greater justifications to crack down, lock down, and institute even more authoritarian policies for the so-called sake of national security without many objections from the citizenry.

Take this latest mass shooting that took place at a small church in a small Texas town.

The lone gunman-a former member of the Air Force-was dressed all in black, wearing body armor, a tactical vest and a mask, and firing an assault rifle. (Note the similarity in uniform and tactics to the nation's police forces, SWAT teams and military.)

Devin Patrick Kelley, the 26-year-old gunman, had served a year in military prison for assaulting his wife and child in 2012. Domestic disputes aside, Kelley-like many of the other shooters in recent years-was described as a "regular guy" by those who knew him.

This "regular" guy's shooting rampage left at least 26 people.

President Trump and the Governor of Texas have chalked the shooting up to mental illness.

That may well be the case here.

Still, there's something to be said for the fact that this shooting bore many of the same marks of other recent attacks: the gunman appeared out of the blue without triggering any alarms, he was dressed like a soldier or militarized police officer, he was armed with military-style weapons and clearly trained in the art of killing, and the attacker died before any insight could be gained into his motives.

As usual, we're left with more questions than answers and a whole lot more fear and anxiety.

As The Washington Post reports, "For some, the church massacre ... reinforced a sense of unease that no place could be considered immune from possible violence after a concert ground in Las Vegas, a Walmart in Colorado, a Nashville church and a bike path in New York all became scenes of death and bloodshed over the past six weeks."

That sense of unease is growing.

Comment: As the country further descends into the pit of chaos, we have to look at the common denominator with other regimes that have taken a similar turn. That is, the corruption of society via the process of ponerology. As positions of power are filled by psychological deviants, they impose on the masses their ideology and pathological values which they adopt themselves. This creates the conditions that you are seeing today; endless wars, extreme violence, growing economic divide, ever increasing control of the public, the blatant lies in the mainstream media and the list goes on and on. From Ponerology: Psychopaths and their role in geopolitics:
Political Ponerology, coined by psychiatrist Andrzej Łobaczewski, is the study of institutional and government systems comprised of high-ranking officials presenting with psychopathic traits. Łobaczewski's investigations focus on government in which absolute political power is held by a psychopathic elite, and explains how an entire society can be ruled and motivated by purely pathological values. Łobaczewski emphasizes how psychopathic leaders "special psychological knowledge" of normal people enables them to manipulate and assert a hypnotic power over the masses. He explains psychopaths have studied us and their ability to use our emotions against us deteriorates our cognitive abilities.

B.F. Skinner's work with operant conditioning tells us that what we learn is impacted by reinforcement and punishment/unpleasant consequence. A pattern of intermittent reinforcement establishes unpredictability and confusion. The psychopath capitalizes on this phenomenon. The victim's mind scrambles in an effort to mitigate the distress and return to internal consistency. Eventually cognitive dissonance sets in and the desperate urgency to discern a rhyme or reason becomes a driving force. At this point the duped masses are caught up in an addictive cycle and come to view the psychopathic tormenter as the redeemer. Lobaczewski contends the psychopath's evil motivations, masked by a humane ideology, further exacerbate confusion.

The use of propaganda, distraction, and elaborate lies are instrumental in ensuring that beliefs and memories that echo the psychopathic leader's agenda are retained, while that which doesn't serve the psychopathic leader, are forgotten. The need to fit in, to secure a national identity further ensures compliance with this indoctrination. According to Lobaczewski the basic ignorance and weakness to this conditioning/brainwashing guarantees that the masses will bend to the deified psychopathic leader's will. This pathological attachment is a survival strategy, which enables dissociation from jarring reality. By disowning inconceivable truths and taking on the psychopath's perspective, the victim wards off the threat of helplessness, and terror is mitigated. Over time learned helplessness takes over and passive acceptance of abject criminality occurs.

Pepe Escobar reveals the inside story of the Saudi "night of long knives"

Saudi’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

The House of Saud's King Salman devises a high-powered "anti-corruption" commission and appoints his son, Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, a.k.a. MBS, as chairman.

Right on cue, the commission detains 11 House of Saud princes, four current ministers and dozens of former princes/cabinet secretaries - all charged with corruption. Hefty bank accounts are frozen, private jets are grounded. The high-profile accused lot is "jailed" at the Riyadh Ritz-Carlton.

War breaks out within the House of Saud, as Asia Times had anticipated back in July. Rumors have been swirling for months about a coup against MBS in the making. Instead, what just happened is yet another MBS pre-emptive coup.

A top Middle East business/investment source who has been doing deals for decades with the opaque House of Saud offers much-needed perspective: "This is more serious than it appears. The arrest of the two sons of previous King Abdullah, Princes Miteb and Turki, was a fatal mistake. This now endangers the King himself. It was only the regard for the King that protected MBS. There are many left in the army against MBS and they are enraged at the arrest of their commanders."

In addition to the 11 princes, some 38 ministers were also reportedly arrested:
According to a Royal Decree issued by King Salman on Saturday the anti-corruption committee is chaired by the Crown Prince with the membership of: Chairman of the Monitoring and Investigation Commission, Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, Chief of the General Audit Bureau, Attorney General and Head of State Security.

As Saudi analysts were quick to point out, the purge by the Saudi King means that King Abdallah's last remnants (Riyad firmer gov. & head of Nat. Guard); media moguls; SAGIA & financial policy officials have been purged.
...
Arabiya adds that King Salman also issued sacking and replacement orders for Admiral Abdullah bin Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Sultan, the Commander of the Naval Forces, is to be terminated and be retired; his replacement is Vice Admiral Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Ghifaili, to be promoted to the rank of admiral and be appointed as Commander of the Naval Forces.

Additionally, Minister of Economy and Planning Adel al-Faqieh was replaced by Mohammed al-Tuwaijri, SPA said, quoting a royal decree. Commander of the Saudi Navy, Abdullah al-Sultan, was replaced with Fahad al-Ghafli. The king also replaced Minister of Economy and Planning Adel Fakeih withMohammad Al Tuwaijri, his deputy.
Al Tuwaijri, formerly vice minister for economy and planning, had already played a key role in shaping Saudi economic and fiscal policy over the past year. Before joining the government in May 2016 he was Middle East chief executive for HSBC. He's served as a frequent spokesman for the government's economic reform plan on TV and with Western journalists.
... Others arrested include Walid bin Talal; Khaled Tuweijri; AlWalid Ibrahim; Turki Bin Naser; and others.

Oil prices surge to their highest amid Saudi corruption purge

Oil prices have surged to their highest level since summer 2015, following the reported detentions of Saudi Arabian princes, officials and businessmen. The country's attorney general described the situation as phase one of an anti-corruption push.

At least 11 Saudi princes, four ministers and dozens of business figures were among those taken into custody on Saturday, reports in Saudi media claimed. Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, one of the richest people in the world, is believed to be among those arrested as part of the corruption probe by Riyadh.

Following the news, international benchmark Brent crude oil exceeded $64 a barrel overnight, a level not seen since summer June 2015. US West Texas Intermediate crude also reached its top price since July 2015, selling at more than $57.

The Saudi crackdown is being led by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, who supports the extension of limitations on oil output by Riyadh and other leading international producers.

The deal to curb production, reached between OPEC and non-OPEC countries in 2016, expires in March 2018, but may be prolonged as the key players gather in Vienna in late November.

Officials from leading OPEC member Saudi Arabia, met with their Russian, Uzbek and Kazakh counterparts over the weekend, with Russia's Energy Ministry saying the various sides "signified [their] satisfaction of reducing commercial stocks of oil and stated their readiness to continue [to] join [their] efforts towards such a direction." The UAE and Iraq have also said that they were ready to back the extension of the cuts further.

Apart from the Saudi anti-corruption purge, the surge in oil prices is believed to be the result of growing tensions in relations between Riyadh and Tehran, the capture of oil-producing areas from the Kurds by the Iraqi government and increased attacks on oil infrastructure in the Niger delta.

Russia's Iranian energy deal met four objectives

Russia's gargantuan $30 billion energy deal with Iran simultaneously accomplished four objectives that are central to the grand strategic goals behind Moscow's "Ummah Pivot".

Rosneft chief executive Igor Sechin announced that his company signed a roadmap to invest the mind-numbingly large sum of $30 billion in the Iranian energy sector following his and President Putin's visit to the Islamic Republic to hold three-way talks with Azerbaijan. This masterstroke of energy diplomacy wouldn't have been possible had it not been for Trump scaring Western investors away from Iran and pushing the country closer towards Russia as a result, which totally reversed the intended dynamic of the Obama Administration that sought to reorient Iran in the opposite direction through the multiple concessions that it offered up through the summer 2015 nuclear deal. Russia's foreign policy "progressives" are indeed making rapid progress in advancing their 21st-century grand strategic goal of positioning Moscow as the supreme balancing force in the Eurasian supercontinent, and this is in turn accelerating the global transition to a Multipolar World Order.

In order to appreciate just how profoundly significant of a geostrategic move Moscow made this week, one needs to look no further than the four objectives that were immediately advanced through the Russian-Iranian energy roadmap:

Palestinian president to make urgent visit to Saudi Arabia

Abbas
© Fox NewsPalestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
Palestinian and Israeli media have confirmed that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will travel to Saudi Arabia in a visit that was scheduled in the last hour. He is set to arrive in Riyadh shortly after his previously scheduled visit to Egypt where he will meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The visit has raised concerns that Abbas may become embroiled in the great Saudi political purge which has seen the shooting of one Prince, the mysterious death of another and the arrest of 11 Princes and around 30 current and former Saudi ministers and businessmen.

Abbas who leads the Palestinian party Fatah had recently welcomed a pact with rival group Hamas to form a unity government. Although Abbas is often seen as a unifying figure by non-Arab powers, his popularity has waned in Palestine as his tenure has seen many disappointments in respect of progress towards the re-establishment of a full Palestinian state.

It is thought the meeting comes at the behest of the Saudi regime, although this element of the story cannot be verified at this time.

Abbas will meet with Saudi King Salman as well as the powerful Crown Price Muhammad bin Salman who has orchestrated the purges which have included the apparently forced resignation of Saudi citizen Saad Hariri from the position of Prime Minister of Lebanon.

Maryland, Wisconsin now 23rd, 24th states to bar or condemn anti-Israel BDS movement

netanyahu
© Washington Times"Maryland, Wisconsin...enough with the BDS already!"
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker issued an executive order last Friday to ban state agencies from engaging in businesses with ties to the anti-Israel BDS movement.

[The ACLU has condemned similar federal legislation as unconstitutional. More information about these bills is here.]

"We stand firmly against discrimination in any form and we wholly support our friends in Israel," said Walker. "I look forward to leading a trade delegation to Israel to foster new trade partnerships between Wisconsin and Israeli businesses."

[Israel is based on discrimination - see this, and this.]

With the passing of the order, Wisconsin became the 24th U.S. state to enact official measures condemning BDS or prohibiting government business with entities that boycott Israel.

"Consistent with existing Wisconsin nondiscrimination provisions and regulations governing purchases...agencies may not execute a contract with a business entity if that entity is engaging in a boycott of Israel," the order states. "Further, agencies shall reserve the right to terminate any contract with a business entity that engages in a boycott of Israel during the term of the contract." The initiative came just before Walker departed on a trip to Israel at the head of a 15-member business delegation.

The delegation will be in Israel until Nov. 2.

Also last week, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan signed an executive order that blocks his state from awarding contracts to companies that support BDS.

Comment: Israel is well on its way to the finish line in achieving full compliance of the US government. Having most of Congress in its back pocket, Netanyahu is now going state-by-state.

Something is afoot in Saudi Arabia. A century of close alliance with the Americans and the British may be coming to an end. A timeline of major relevant events involving the Arabian kingdom in the last 6 months suggests the House of Saud is undergoing a 'quiet (for now) revolution'.

May 20: Despite his extremely negative opinion of Saudi Arabia, declared repeatedly while campaigning, this is the place Trump decides to make his first foreign visit to as president. He 'makes deals', lectures about the evils of Iran, and does the sword dance. About two weeks later:

June 5: Saudi Arabia severs ties with Qatar, accuses them of supporting terrorism, gives a list of demands and an ultimatum. (Near the end of October, Bannon credited Trump's influence not only with the blockade against Qatar but also the recent changes we're seeing within the Kingdom itself. Others think Trump prevented a war between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.) About two weeks after that:

June 21: In a "bloodless coup" of sorts, King Salman makes his son Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) heir to the throne, replacing Prince Mohammed bin Nayef and purging the Interior Ministry of Nayef supporters. Nayef was a veteran security chief and was highly regarded by the Washington/CIA crowd. The CIA reportedly weren't very pleased by this turn of events.

UN humanitarian coordinator "shocked" by Saudi atrocities in Yemen

yemen fighting
The United Nations Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for the Republic of Yemen, Jimmy McGoldrick, expressed "shock" at the death of 32 people, six children including, who were killed in an air strike, conducted by the Saudi-led coalition on Al Layal bazaar in Sahar district, located in the northern Yemeni province of Saada.

In his press statement, McGoldrick also condemned the killing of five children and the wounding of three others in an artillery attack on the residential area in Bir Pasha, located in the southwestern Yemeni province of Taiz.

McGoldrick's remarks come days after the Saudi alliance approved the targeting of Al Layal bazaar in Sahar District.

"The raids have targeted a gathering of Houthi militants, including experts in the missile brigades, the official Saudi news agency quoted coalition spokesman Turki Al Maliki as saying.

Best of the Web: Britain now under the grips of Russiagate hysteria

Putin and Cameron
Over the course of the last few weeks a campaign has been launched in Britain spearheaded by the Guardian newspaper to 'delegitimise' the Brexit referendum result by alleging that it was Russian 'meddling' which caused it.

Thus we have seen a series of sensationalist reports insinuating that Arron Banks - the British millionaire who partly funded the Leave campaign - is being funded by Russia, and claims that Professor Mifsud - the London based academic referred to in the Papadopoulos indictment - may have met British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson at a fundraising dinner arranged by another MP (Johnson denies it) and that Papadopoulos himself whilst a member of the Trump campaign met a British minister on the fringe of the UN General Assembly session in New York in September 2016.

There have also been insinuations that Russia launched a social media campaign to support Brexit, and even that Russian intelligence is behind the 'black book' setting out various sex allegations against Conservatives ministers and MPs which is currently circulating and which has led to the forced resignation of Britain's Defence Secretary Michael Fallon.

Comment: More astonishing is that they've been at this since last year. See:

Flashback Leaked DNC emails published by Wikileaks reveal plot against Bernie Sanders by Hillary Clinton

Debbie Wasserman Schultz
© Joe Skipper / ReutersU.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz
A WikiLeaks dump of nearly 20,000 Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails, the supposedly neutral governing organization of the Democratic Party, indicates that the committee strategized with the Clinton campaign and plotted against Bernie Sanders.

Collusion with Clinton and the media

A communication from later in May laid out the pros and cons of Wasserman Schultz accepting an invitation to CBS's "Face the Nation," and indicated that the DNC was plotting its moves based on what would be amenable to Hillary Clinton's campaign.

"Clinton campaign is a mess, they're afraid of their own shadow and didn't like that we engaged," Luis wrote. "But they'll be unhappy regardless, so better to get out there and do some strong pivots and land good punches on Trump. They can't tell us NOT to do TV right now, we shouldn't pull ourselves out until they actually do."

"It's clear that Bernie messed up and that we're on the right side of history," Luis said in another bullet point, referring to the Nevada convention.

"Let's take this offline," Wasserman Schultz said in response. "I basically agree with you."
