A number of Syrian state and media-linked YouTube accounts have gone dark, as the battle for Idlib looms amid Russia's warnings of an imminent false-flag chemical attack and Western preparations for retaliatory strikes.

On Saturday afternoon, the channels belonging to the Syrian presidency, the country's Ministry of Defense, and SANA news all showed a message saying: "This account has been terminated due to a legal complaint," or "This account has been terminated for a violation of YouTube's Terms of Service."

The Damascus-based Sana TV's channel on YouTube also appeared to be taken down, with a message reading: "This page isn't available. Sorry about that. Try searching for something else."

More than 100 US marines flew to southeast Syria for a snap live-fire exercise, sending a "strong message" to Russia not to conduct operations near the US base, two Pentagon officials told Fox News.

The marines were deployed via assault helicopter to Al-Tanf military base, located in Syria's Homs Province, which borders Iraq. The drill includes air assaults, supported by artillery barrages.

"Our forces will demonstrate the capability to deploy rapidly, assault a target with integrated air and ground forces and conduct rapid exfiltration," said spokesman for the US Central Command, Captain William Urban.

Peace overture? No ballistic missiles seen in North Korea's 70th anniversary parade

Foreign observers are surprised that North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un opted not to feature intercontinental ballistic missiles in a grandiose military parade, in stark contrast to similar events that the nation held in the past.

No ICMBs were showcased in Pyongyang as the country celebrated its 70th anniversary on Sunday. The parade held in Kim Il-Sung Square focused more on conventional weapons instead, such as tanks and rocket launchers. Some of the hardware featured traditional anti-US and anti-imperialist slogans.

Russia's strategy towards Western insanity explained

Putin cabinet
The adults are talking
Before I proceed in addressing some issues that Paul Craig Roberts raised in his article, partially addressed to me and Andrei Raevsky (aka Saker), I want to express my profound admiration for Dr. Roberts and his courageous civic position and his real, not for show, American patriotism. It is an honor and a privilege to be engaged in conversation with such an esteemed person, even when I disagree with him in some aspects of geopolitical reality when related to, the now official, Cold War 2.0 between the United States and Russia, and Russia's posture in this conflict. Dr Roberts writes:
As I have made the same points, I can only applaud Martyanov and The Saker. Where we might differ is in recognizing that endlessly accepting insults and provocations encourages their increase until the only alternative is surrender or war. So, the questions for Andrei Martyanov, The Saker, and for Putin and the Russian government is: How long does turning your other cheek work? Do you turn your other cheek so long as to allow your opponent to neutralize your advantage in a confrontation? Do you turn your other cheek so long that you lose the support of the patriotic population for your failure to defend the country's honor? Do you turn your other cheek so long that you are eventually forced into war or submission? Do you turn your other cheek so long that the result is nuclear war?
Here is where I and Paul Craig Roberts differ dramatically on the issue of Russia's strategy. Yes, I agree with Dr. Roberts that, quoting William Fulbright, "words are deeds and style is substance insofar as they influence men's mind and behavior". But while insults and provocations are unpleasant and in some cases do influence mind and behavior of some, with modern day Russia it is different. I already laid out some basics of Russia's strategy here at Unz Review, I will expand a bit more in answering Dr. Roberts' undeniably valid question.

Comment: The US may understand that it cannot defeat Russia militarily (without incurring huge costs to itself) - but that doesn't mean the dying Empire won't employ any - and every - method of attack at its disposal to continue to try and destroy the great country to the east. Believe it or not, we ain't seen nothing yet.

The Prime Minister of Abkhazia, Gennady Gagulia, has been killed in a car crash en route to his home republic from Russia's Sochi airport, after wrapping up an official state visit to Syria, local authorities confirmed.

The premier's convoy was involved in an accident at around 10pm local time in Gudauta District of the independent republic just after passing a police post on the outskirts of Mussera. Gagulia was making his way back to Abkhazia from the Russian city of Sochi, where he landed after making an official visit to Syria.

President of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba, who was also traveling in the convoy, suffered no injuries. According to witnesses, the tragedy happened after an oncoming car apparently lost control and crashed into one of the delegation's vehicles.

Comment: While accidents do happen, even to world leaders, one probably shouldn't rule out other possibilities just yet. This incident comes on the heels of the assassination of the Donetsk Peoples Republic leader Zakharchenko: Also check out SOTT radio's:

GMO crops and harmful pesticides allowed in wildlife refuges across the country

Late last week, the Trump administration rescinded an Obama-era policy banning the use of GMO crops and a controversial class of pesticides thought to harm bees and birds in federal wildlife refuges. The news generated some eye-popping headlines and raises the question: Why would land managers plant genetically engineered corn and soy plants and spray harmful pesticides in federal refuges for wildlife in the first place?

Wildlife refuges across the country have entered into cooperative agreements with private farmers, allowing them to farm on federal land in exchange for dedicating a portion of the agricultural area to habitat restoration and providing forage for migrating birds. Due to rapid habitat loss, birds and butterflies have come to depend on wildlife refuges along their migration routes to survive.

President Donald Trump says the United States is a "developing nation" and can't afford to subsidize countries like India and China anymore. He said the US is going to stop the "crazy" practice.

Trump was addressing a cheering crowd at a fundraiser in Fargo, North Dakota on Friday and announced that he wants to stop helping to fund growing economies like India and China, focusing on the US instead.

"We are a developing nation, too, OK? We are. As far as I'm concerned, we are a developing nation. I want to be put down in that category because we are growing, too. We are going to grow faster than anybody," said Trump.

US Military preparing for "Options" in Syria to save Al Qaeda

US ships firing Tomahawk missiles
President Trump has already ordered Tomahawk missile attacks on Syria twice, in the past 2 Aprils.
Events are moving rapidly in Syria as Russian jets pound insurgent positions in Idlib Province and as the Syrian Army initiates a ground invasion which Damascus has described as coming in a "phased" approach.

The White House responded to the Syrian and Russian bombing campaign by vowing it would act "swiftly and vigorously" should chemical weapons be used, and a day ago claimed there's "lots of evidence" chemical weapons are being prepared by the Syrian forces, citing intelligence of such activities.

And now America's top general has confirmed the Pentagon is drawing up military options to attack Syria and is in currently in close discussion with the White House over the plans. Marine General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters on Saturday during a trip to India, according to Reuters:

Idlib offensive has begun - US forces on high alert

Russian Air Force
The liberation of Idlib from US backed terrorists, has now begun. With weeks of preparation, on the tactical, strategic, infowar, and diplomatic fronts, the Russian and Syrian air forces launched their first sorties tonight, with bombers and assault planes attacking terrorist held positions between Hama and Idlib. So far there have been over 70 airstrikes recorded above several jihadist sites in northwest Syria in just the last several hours alone.

Previously the Syrian government confirmed that Russian and Syrian air forces successfully launched over 100 airstrikes since yesterday, softening up peripheral targets and making impossible the possibility of any break-through or counter-attack, or other maneuver on the part of the terrorists.

Comment: The Russian and Syrian air forces have been hard at work, tonight, as their fighter pilots carry several airstrikes across the Hama-Idlib axis.
Led by their Sukhoi jets, the Syrian and Russian air forces initially began their aerial campaign on Saturday morning, when they repeatedly bombarded the jihadist rebels in both the Idlib and Hama provinces.
...
The Syrian and Russian forces will likely continue their heavy bombardment throughout the night and early into tomorrow, as their ground troops make their final preparations before they launch their assault.

It is expected, barring a major U.S counter-attack to protect their own assets, that the Syrian and Russian forces will heavily bombardment specific targets throughout the night, and into the early morning hours of September 9th.

Comment: US forces on high alert in Syria
The report further underlined that US military forces in Syria were put on high alert after Russian bombardment of terrorist targets in the country's Idlib province in an apparent preparation of a looming offensive against the militants, as well as Moscow's latest warning of an impending attack on militant forces based near the key US training garrison in at-Tanf.

It added that the garrison was also "the sight of a series of clashes between US-led coalition forces and militias loyal to the government of Bashar al-Assad during the summer of 2017," clashes that raised "the possibility of an armed conflict between Russian, Iranian, and US proxy forces in the region."

Russian and Iranian military forces are in Syria at the official request of the Syrian government, whereas American troops have illegally infiltrated into the country in an overt campaign to train and support terrorists bent of destabilizing the nation and overthrowing its government.
