The deployment of the submarine was preceded by a build-up in US naval forces in the region, which took place amid warnings issued by the Russian Defense Ministry about planned provocations using chemical weapons in Syria. The last such provocation triggered joint airstrikes by the US, UK and France against Damascus.

British Trafalgar-class nuclear submarine the HMS Talent sailed into Gibraltar on September 8, the Gibraltar Chronicle reported, posting a picture of the vessel. The submarine has the capacity to carry up to 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles, capable of hitting ground targets.

Czech PM declares Syria, and other major world crises, can't be solved without Moscow

The Czech Prime Minister has vowed to come to terms with Russia, saying "everyone" is willing to do business with a country whose contribution is essential to solve pressing international issues, and Syria is not an exception.

"Everybody would like to do business with Russia," Prime Minister Andrej Babis told Slovakia's Pravda newspaper when asked to comment on current bellicosity between Moscow and the West. "Somehow it has to be resolved. Russia is there and will remain there," he stated.

Babis believes coming to terms with Moscow is crucial to tackling major international crises. "[Working] with Moscow, we should look for a way out of Syria. And the situation in Syria is of great concern to Europeans."

Prime Minister Babis, a billionaire and the Czech Republic's second richest man, owning an agricultural giant in Agrofert as well as a media empire, said he welcomes the Italian government's calls to lift anti-Russia sanctions. Earlier in July, Italy's Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said his country will take the matter to Brussels by the year's end.

"The new Italian government wants to lift these sanctions. Let's see how it develops," Babis commented. He noted that "the issue of sanctions will be negotiated by the Council of the European Union," but chose not to elaborate on the issue.

Comment: RESPECT. Russia has earned it.

US Ambassador to Israel: No matter what party is in control, US embassy will stay in Jerusalem

The US does not have any politicians on the horizon who would dare to reverse Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and relocate American embassy there, according to the US ambassador.

Donald Trump's daring decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish nation in December of last year sparked outrage among Palestinians and Arabs across the world. While previous US administrations had pondered the option of moving the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Trump relocated the mission in May - in a decision so bold that no American politician will be able to reverse it, according to US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

"I really can't see that happening, no matter what party is in control. In order for an administration to reverse this, they would have to conclude that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel and Tel Aviv is. I think that would be a far more controversial thing to do than what the president did," Friedman noted on Friday, just after Paraguay announced it will move its embassy from Jerusalem back to Tel Aviv.

"It would be completely at odds with reality and I don't believe that there is an American politician of any party - of no party - who would take a position that is completely contrary to reality. So I don't think that's going to happen," the US envoy explained to Israel Hayom.

US prosecutors admit no evidence Maria Butina offered sex for job

US prosecutors have admitted that they wrongly accused Maria Butina, the Russian gun activist jailed in the US on charges of being an unregistered "foreign agent," of offering sex in exchange for a job.

Days after Butina was arrested in July, Assistant US Attorney Erik M. Kenerson claimed she was offering an individual "sex in exchange for a position within a special interest organization." The claim, which caused a storm in the mainstream media, has been disputed by her defense attorney Robert Driscoll.

However, in a filing on Friday, prosecutors in the US attorney's office in Washington, including Kenerson, stressed that the July allegation "was based both on a series of text messages between the defendant and another individual." They admitted that the "government's understanding of this particular text conversation was mistaken."

Pierre Le Corf, founder of the NGO "WeAreSuperHeroes," who has been living in Syria's Aleppo for over 2 years, has offered some insight into the escalating situation in Idlib, terrorists' last stronghold, in an interview with Sputnik France.

In light of the Syrian government's preparations for a large-scale military operation in the rebel-held province of Idlib, the founder of the NGO "WeAreSuperHeroes," Pierre Le Corf, has told Sputnik that he fears a fresh provocation from militants.

According to Le Corf, terrorists' principal aim is to prompt a Western intervention - something that would exacerbate the chaos in Syria, which has been engulfed in a civil war for over seven years.

"It will not be just a battle [in Idlib]. This is the last chance for Western forces (including my country, France) to interfere in the situation in Syria, to find an excuse to be able to start off a more global conflict. [...] The day when the battle for Idlib is over, the coalition - Europe and the US - will lose the war in Syria, this will be the end. "

The complicated and dangerous geopolitics of Kosovo

Under the mask of the separation of Serbs and Albanians, Vucic wants to execute an open treason that violates the Constitution that he is obliged to protect.

The ethnic demarcation that is promoted by Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic, between Serbs and Albanians is just another name for the creation of Greater Albania. Vucic statements and spinnings of the necessity for the "demarcation" between Serbia and Kosovo caused shock among Serbs. Most of his political life, Vucic advocated for a Greater Serbia, but with coming to power, things changed. Against his demarcation is virtually the entirety of Serbia...from experts, to the pillar and base of Serbia, and throughout the history of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

A few years ago, I wrote in my analytical column that Vucic came to power with the help of the Atlanticists, and that in accordance with that, his policy would be treacherous. I did not make a mistake. Now we are presenting the final act of betrayal. In announcements, Serbia would establish sovereignty in the north of Kosovo, provide guarantees for Serbs, and for the Serbian Orthodox Church south of the Ibar River and Serbia would be on an accelerated path to the EU.

Washington would still "prefer" a peaceful restoration of "democracy" in Venezuela, the White House said in response to a scandalous report about US officials' contacts with Venezuelan military officers seeking to stage a coup.

US President Donald Trump's administration has been holding meetings for around a year with a group of Venezuelan officers plotting to overthrow the Latin American country's president, Nicolas Maduro, the New York Times reported on Saturday. The list of US contacts involved in secret talks about a military coup even involved a person that was on the US government's own sanctions list of corrupt officials, the media added, citing its interviews with 11 unnamed US officials and one former Venezuelan commander, who took part in the conspiracy.

A lawmaker's recent proposal to ban smoking while driving is causing controversy.

Supporters say it will prevent drivers from being distracted while smokers claim it will infringe on their rights.

Under the traffic law, the use of cellphones or watching programs on digital multimedia while driving are banned because they are distractions.

Liberty Korea Party lawmaker Bak Maeng-woo proposed the revision bill to fine drivers up to 200,000 won if they smoke while driving, claiming that getting a cigarette and lighting it also hinders a driver's focus.

China joins Australia's largest maritime exercise for 1st time amid South China Sea row

Chinese troops are taking part in Australia's largest maritime exercise for the first time, despite recent tensions between the nations. They are among 3,000 personnel from 27 countries taking part in the drills.

The biennial naval operation, 'Exercise Kakadu,' is hosting 23 ships and submarines from across the Indo-Pacific region off the strategic northern port of Darwin with the aim of training the navies to cooperate effectively at sea.

The drills have been lauded as building understanding and trust between the nations, just months after Chinese, Australian and US navies were close to a stand-off over the disputed South China Sea.

In April, Australian vessels had a challenging encounter with China as it passed through the waterway, while in May the US reacted to what it describes as Beijing's militarization of disputed areas there by expelling it from joint naval exercises off Hawaii.
