America's last stand for history, diplomacy, truth and life on Earth - is failing miserably

American flag
One of the reasons that countries fail is that collective memory is continually destroyed as older generations pass away and are replaced by new ones who are disconnected from what came before.

Initially, the disconnect was handled by history and by discussions around family tables. For example, when I was a kid there were still grandparents whose fathers had fought for the Confederacy. They had no slaves and owned no plantations. They fought because their land was invaded by Lincoln's armies. Today if Southern families still know the facts, they would protect their children by not telling them. Can you imagine what would happen to a child in a public school that took this position?

Frustrated by the inability of the Union Army to defeat the Army of Northern Virginia led by West Point graduate Robert E. Lee, Lincoln resorted to war criminals. Generals Sherman and Sherridan, operating under the drunken General Grant, were the first modern war criminals who conducted war against civilian women and children, their homes and food supply. Lincoln was so out of step with common morality that he had to arrest and detain 300 Northern newspaper editors and exile a US Congressman in order to conduct his War for Empire.

SOTT Focus: Father Daniël in Syria: 'Fake News is Imposed With Great Enthusiasm in the West, While Channels of Truth Are Closed'

Living in Syria in the sixth-century Mar Yakub monastery in the city of Qara, 90 kilometers north of the capital Damascus, Flemish Father Daniël Maes has been a witness to the invasion of western-backed terrorists since the very beginning. To this day, he and his friends continue to support the Syrian people by not only helping them directly, but also by spreading the truth about what is truly going on in the country.

Each week, a newsletter written by Father Daniël is published, in which he describes his experiences and thoughts on the situation in Syria. With the help of much needed donations and NGOs such as Hand in Hand voor Syrië, Father Daniël and others have been working tirelessly with the Syrian people liberated from (formerly) terrorist-held areas.

Below, you can read his latest newsletter, as published on September 28th, 2018, and as translated by Sott.net:

Galloway: If Saudi warlords murdered and 'boxed off' Khashoggi in Turkey, how would Erdogan respond?

MBSalman

As Riyadh is accused of allegedly murdering their critic Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey, the key question is how President Erdogan would respond if suspicions are confirmed. My money is on him responding with blood and iron.

Khashoggi was allegedly killed inside the Saudi consulate in Turkey last week. If a Washington Post columnist had been 'murdered and dismembered' in Moscow, the UN Security Council would already be in session. If he had been carried out in boxes from an Iranian Embassy, the US and its allies would already be at war with Iran.

Not one British newspaper has reported the story on their front page despite the UK's kissing-close relationship with the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MbS) and the fact that Khashoggi was, only a week ago, a visitor to London where he appeared on the state broadcaster BBC.

Saudi Arabia denies having murdered Khashoggi, a writer on the Washington Post and exiled critic of the absolutist monarchy, inside his country's consulate in Istanbul. But Turkish sources close to President Erdogan say that is the preliminary finding of their police officers examining the alleged scene of the crime.

For certain, Khashoggi, a resident in Washington, has disappeared.

Comment: The Saudis do not aspire to global standards of behavior or justice in how they treat those who defy, embarrass or manipulate them. If Khashoggi is truly dead, what are the implications of this event for ongoing Saudi relations with the US? With Turkey?

Trump admin will double-down on a failed Afghanistan approach

2 guys/flag
© Global Look Press/ US Joint Staff / Global Look Press
Don't look for the Trump administration to pull out of Afghanistan any time soon. In fact, expect just the opposite, as ill-advised as it is to continue pursuing a military solution to protect a US-installed corrupt government that is teetering on the brink of its own destruction.

The US has entered its 17th year in the Afghan war trying to prop up a government that is fundamentally flawed, corrupt to the core with a security force that still cannot defeat the Taliban on its own. In fact, corruption within the government has actually empowered the Taliban not only to stay the course but has increased its influence after it was all but defeated in 2001.

That defeat came after the Taliban government at the time refused to hand over Osama bin Laden, whom the US had determined had orchestrated the terrorist attacks on New York city and Washington on 9/11, an event which bin Laden later claimed responsibility for. While bin Laden was a guest of the Taliban government at the time, the Taliban asked for negotiations and proof of his involvement. The US refused any negotiation and began a bombing campaign that resulted in the fall of the Taliban government.

Once a US-imposed government was installed, there was a totally ill-advised shift in US policy. The then Bush administration turned its attention to regime change in Iraq, taking its eye off the ball of working with that government to make it representative of the Afghan people.

Comment: The Afghanistan battleground is financially not cost-effective, in fact a drain on US resources that could be better spent at home. Ineffective methods of leverage, negotiation, reconstruction, combined with troop and civilian losses, have left a pile up in the negative column for validation of any further engagement. What this suggests is the reasons the US is in Afghanistan, and remains there, Is not predicated on a successful outcome. It requires longevity and has nothing to do with the above.

Google playing 'good censor' for civility's sake, leaked briefing confirms

Braincensored

Internal research commissioned by Google confirms Orwellian-scale censorship powers enjoyed by tech giants. It says free speech is a "utopian idea," and creating ordered spaces for safety and civility is Google's new mission.

The name of the briefing, leaked to Breitbart, says it all. 'The Good Censor,' prepared by a host of prominent industry researchers and "cultural leaders," states that Google, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have been moving away from the "American tradition," which protects free speech from any encroachment, towards the European one, which prefers "dignity over liberty and civility over freedom."
Tech firms have gradually shifted away from unmediated free speech and towards censorship and moderation.
Google's mission, as well as that of other social media platforms, has become "to create well ordered spaces for safety and civility," the briefing states. For this purpose, the platforms assume new roles of "publisher" and "editor," rather than a mere distributor of content.

Comment: UPDATE (October 15): Breitbart screwed the pooch on this one. The report was actually the opposite of what they alleged: it was a third-party report showing how poorly the social media industry is behaving, and how they should take some very common-sense steps in order to get their act together. How Breitbart got their interpretation - when anyone can read the report and see how stupid you would have to be to see it the way Breitbart does - is mind-boggling. News to Breitbart: you don't need to lie in order to expose leftist nonsense, there's enough of that out there. Try just reporting the truth:

A wide-ranging interview, Being Melania - The First Lady, that was conducted during Melania Trump's Kenya trip will air on October 12 on ABC.

In a revealing interview with ABC's Tom Llamas, US First Lady Melania Trump has suggested that the White House continues to hire people who cannot be trusted, but added that she has let her husband know.

"Some people, they don't work there anymore. [...] You always need to watch your back," she said.

Responding to the question if it was true that she had 100 percent control over her husband's decisions, Melania said: "Oh, I wish. I give him my honest advice and honest opinions, and then he does what he wants to do."

Killary rejected again: Michelle Obama, Dem. senator blast Clinton's call to dump civility with GOP

Hillary

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remarked earlier that Democrats "can't" keep civil ties with their opponents, who "want to destroy what you stand for," apparently referring to the sweeping national division over the Kavanaugh case.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has rejected comments from Hillary Clinton and former Attorney General Eric Holder, who remarked that Democrats should by no means be civil with Republicans.

TV host Savannah Guthrie asked Mrs. Obama, who was invited to The Today Show, to comment on Holder's words about "a new motto" Democrats should have:
"You were famous at the Democratic convention for saying, 'When they go low, we go high.' And just this week, the former Attorney General Eric Holder, who worked for your husband, said the Democrats should have a new motto, 'When they go low, we should kick 'em,'"
Guthrie recalled, further referring to Hillary Clinton's statement on civility. "What would you say now about your motto? Do you think it still stands?" Guthrie asked.

However, Obama responded by saying she continues to stand by her motto, while Holder's alternative is not the right message to deliver to children.

Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp earlier spoke out along the same lines against Hillary Clinton's statement that liberals "cannot be civil" towards Republicans, branding the approach unproductive and even "ridiculous."

'Russia! No, China! Wait, Russia!' FBI Director Wray: 'China represents the biggest, baddest THREAT to the USA'

christopher wray fbi
Christopher Wray, FBI Director. He wouldn't lie, would he?
China is waging an unprecedented influence campaign against the American public and Beijing represents the "broadest, most complicated, most long-term" threat to US interests, said FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Questioned by senators on the Homeland Security Committee about US President Donald Trump's recent assertion that China is trying to interfere in the upcoming November midterm elections, Wray said that China presents the greatest long-term counterintelligence threat to the US.

Beijing appears to have totally eclipsed Moscow in the eye of the principal US counter-intelligence agency, with condemnations of China edging out the Russophobic rhetoric often heard on Capitol Hill over the past several years.

Comment: Really? Coz, two days earlier, Wray told a CFR audience that Russia was "like, still totally all up in our internets..."

Comment: As Russia didn't exactly pan out as a patsy for the pent-up anger and venom of the Deep State, we see a pivot to China - given the current tariff feud for financial equality and the perception it is the ultimate enemy, and the blatant industrial sabotage against Chinese firms on the global market.

Historically, China has most often been deemed the preferred target with the most capabilities and incentive to replace the US in global influence and position. (Kissinger said so. Must be true.)

A Brexit deal between the UK and European Union is within reach by next Wednesday, the EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier has said.

Speaking at the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday, the negotiator said that 80 to 85 percent of the agreement providing for Britain's withdrawal had been settled following talks with his UK counterparts.

Barnier confirmed that the UK is set to leave both the EU's Customs Union and Single Market. Outlining the current state of Brexit negotiations, he stated there must be checks on goods between the EU and UK.

In relation to Ireland, he insisted that these customs and compliance checks cannot be carried out at the Northern Ireland border, maintaining that the EU respects the UK's constitutional integrity.

Comment: Brexit, fraught with problems, negative scenarios, and political blow-back, may finally become an acceptable deal. See also:

Russian MoD: ISIS seized chlorine canisters during attack on Al-Nusra, White Helmets

Deadly chemicals have ended up in the hands of Islamic State (IS, ISIS/ISIL) after pro-IS terrorists attacked a northern Syrian HQ of Al-Nusra, killing several militants and White Helmets and capturing canisters with chlorine.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on the attack on Wednesday, accusing the militant-allied Western countries of helping the terrorists acquire chemical agents. The "irresponsible actions" of these states in Syria have led to the situation, in which "chemical agents ended up in the hands of Islamic State terrorists, whose actions are impossible to predict," the head of the Russian Reconciliation Center, Major General Vladimir Savchenko, said in a statement.

Moscow has previously accused the anti-government militants and their Western backers of preparing false flag chemical attacks to frame Damascus. The West, Savchenko said, completely "disregards the precarious situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone" with this alleged plan.
