Over-equalization? Paris mayor fined for hiring too many women

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, has criticized an "absurd" €90,000 fine for hiring too many women in senior positions at city hall in breach of a 2013 law that sought to achieve greater gender equality in the workplace.

After promoting 11 women and five men in 2018, Hidalgo was found to have violated a 2013 rule that meant no more than 60 percent of newly appointed management positions in the public sector could go to one gender. The move was designed to ensure more women get promoted, but Hidalgo fell afoul of it by giving 69 percent of the roles in her administration to women.

The mayor was unfazed by the punishment, declaring that she was happy to announce the penalty was because "The management of the city hall has, all of a sudden, become far too feminist," and declaring that "this fine is obviously absurd, unfair, irresponsible and dangerous."

Putin and Merkel join forces to resist cynical US sanctions on Nord Stream 2 pipeline

Relations between Russia and Germany are at an all-time low, but nothing brings people together like a common enemy. In its bid to fight a new cross-continental gas pipeline, Washington seems to be offering itself up for the role.

Earlier this week, US Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a big game hunter who frequently sets his sights on Moscow, insisted that a new wave of punitive measures would finish off the planned Nord Stream 2 for good. He told an event run by pro-NATO lobbyists the Atlantic Council on Wednesday that "this project," in his opinion, "will never be launched and gas will never be launched through the pipeline." He added that "the second wave of sanctions" would be approved in the near future.

His sentiments are shared by the US State Department, who used the same meeting, entitled 'How to Stop Nord Stream 2', to confirm that Washington is still aiming to sink all hopes of the underwater pipeline being completed. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Stephen Biegun told his hosts that "we don't want to impose sanctions, but we'll use this authority and these tools to stop the project," and added, "We'll stop this pipeline." Backed by Russia's state-owned Gazprom, as well as German, French and British energy companies, Nord Stream 2, if completed, would link Siberia's gas fields with consumers in Western Europe.

FBI spied on Fox news, recorded call with Papdopoulos, newly released texts show

New text messages released Thursday show FBI officials spied on a Fox News executive over the course of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation that targeted President Donald Trump as a secret Russian agent who illegally stole the election from Hillary Clinton in 2016. The FBI surveilled and recorded a phone call between former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos and an unnamed vice president at Fox News, according to a text message sent to fired former FBI official Peter Strzok just weeks before Trump was inaugurated as president in 2017.

Agents were targeting former Trump campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos, who later pleaded guilty to making false statements to FBI agents during the Russian collusion investigation. The FBI used the Foreign Agents Registration Act, or FARA, as a legal pretext to investigate and spy on Papadopoulos, as well as former White House National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, and former Trump affiliate Carter Page.

"I know you're not point on this anymore, but [George Papadopoulos] got a call from the VP at Fox News yesterday, who advised that the government was conducting 'checks' on him a few months back," an unidentified individual whose name is redacted in the report texted to Strzok on January 12, 2017. "I haven't listed to the exact audio, but I'm guess[ing] that's the FARA checks that we did with DOJ on our 4 main guys; especially given the article that you pushed yesterday."

Hunter Biden asked accountant how much money he would be making if he was in jail

Hunter Biden was involved in criminal activities. He knew he was because he asked his accountant to tell him what his income would be if he was in jail. It's probable that his father, VP Biden, knew this as well.

Hunter Biden's accountant Eric Schwerin sent Hunter a reply to how much income he could expect to make in 2017 even if he had to go to jail. Schwerin responded that Hunter could conservatively estimate around $750,000 annually, even if he went to jail:
hunter
The fact that Hunter was worried or concerned about going to jail says something - that he was aware that he was doing something illegal and that he could go to jail for doing.

We don't know all that Hunter was up to specifically related to his concerns above but we do know that Hunter and his business partner Devin Archer were copied on the announcement that then Vice President Joe Biden was traveling to Ukraine.

Comment: Hunter is a dirtbag. According to Joe, he's also "the smartest man I know."

PRITI Patel has said she would call the cops on Brits breaking the Christmas Covid laws - and urged others to do the same.

The Home Secretary said she would not spend the holiday season with her family in other parts of the UK - and that she would "of course" inform the police if she spied her neighbours ignoring the rules.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the Home Secretary said she would dob in her neighbours.

"Any individual that saw any laws being broken would take that upon themselves," Ms Patel said.

Series of fact-checks on America's mission to defeat COVID exposes media hatred

Times headlines
© The New York Times
America's corporate fact-checkers are out of control.

Long gone are the days of Snopes assuring readers there isn't a million dollars waiting in a Nigerian bank account for them. Distant are the happier times when fact-checks assured us there was no hook-handed hitchhiker killing our grandparents on the local highway.

Instead today, we see an alliance between corporate media and corporate tech titans to squelch debate, silence conservatives, and literally censor regular Americans, dissenting scientists, newspaper competitors, and even the president of the United States. No longer even content with simply nitpicking and undermining debate, the fact checks on the United States' COVID vaccine timeline expose how outlets like NBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post are willing to attack American dreams and aspirations to score political points.

Massie, Gabbard team up on bill to repeal the Patriot Act

Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) have teamed up to introduce a bill designed to repeal the Patriot Act.

The two House members are proposing bipartisan legislation designed to limit government surveillance of people without warrants and probable cause.

The Protect Our Civil Liberties Act would repeal both the Patriot Act and the FISA Amendments Act that permitted government agencies to collect mass telephone and email data. Gabbard and Massie argue that this surveillance violates Americans' right to privacy and their civil liberties.

In a video announcement Wednesday, Gabbard said the bill would make sure that Congress
"reexamines how best to strike this balance of protecting our national security interests while also ensuring that the constitutional rights of every single American is preserved."

"Protection of our civil liberties is essential [...] Join us in making sure that our constitutional rights are upheld." The Hawaii Democrat also called out the intelligence community, saying it "has not been transparent or honest with the American people or even Congress about what they've been doing."

Comment: The whole Congress should be questioning this act and the implications it holds for interference with Fourth Amendment rights. They were elected to be the gatekeepers, not the gate.

Creepy Joe cut out of the loop? Acting Pentagon chief halts Biden transition team briefings - UPDATE: Miller says it's fake news

Christopher Miller, nuevo secretario de Defensa, ha recibido la misión de impedir nuevas guerras.
Former Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller
Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller ordered a Pentagon-wide halt to cooperation with the transition of President-elect Biden, shocking officials across the Defense Department, senior administration officials tell Axios.

Behind the scenes: A top Biden official was unaware of the directive. Administration officials left open the possibility cooperation would resume after a holiday pause. The officials were unsure what prompted Miller's action, or whether President Trump approved.

Why it matters: Miller's move, which stunned officials throughout the Pentagon, was the biggest eruption yet of animus and mistrust toward the Biden team from the top level of the Trump administration.

Comment: Newsmax adds:
The order comes after the Office of the Director of National Intelligence warned that
"the Intelligence Community will not meet the December 18 deadline, set by Executive Order and Congress to submit the IC's classified assessment on foreign threats to the 2020 U.S. elections. The IC has received relevant reporting since the election and a number of agencies have not finished coordinating on the product."
The intelligence community is also currently dealing with a reportedly massive cyber attack targeting several federal agencies, including the Departments of Defense, State, Treasury, Homeland Security, and Commerce, as well as the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.
Why be telling a senile old man secrets he probably won't be needing to know?

UPDATE: Acting SefDef Miller released the following statement:
DoD continues to support the presidential transition aligned with the President Transition Act, White House and Biden-Harris Transition Team Memorandum of Understanding, and DoD policy.

Hunter Biden's business partners pushed to 'get Joe involved' in Chinese deal, a 'no brainer,' says texts obtained by Fox

Hunter Biden's former business partners pushed to get Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden involved in a deal with the chairman of a Chinese energy company, according to text messages obtained by Fox News.

Tony Bobulinski and James Gilliar worked with Hunter on a business deal with Chinese Energy Company CEFC in 2017 and sought to get Hunter's father, then the former vice president of the U.S., involved in the deal to make it appear as "truly" a "family business." The two also involved Joe's brother, Jim Biden, in the deal, as well, according to the messages obtained by Fox News.

In an April 30, 2017, exchange, Bobulinski asked Gilliar: "What is the deal w Jim Biden as he wasn't part of the discussion but now seems a focal point[?]"

Gilliar responded: "With H demons, could be good to have a back up, he strengthens our USP to Chinese as it looks like a truly family business, and I like the dude."

Later in a May 11, 2017, exchange, Gilliar wrote to Bobulinski: "Man U are right let's get the company set up, then tell H and family the high stakes and get Joe involved."

Facebook joins Twitter in reverting to pre-election algorithms that do not prioritize MSM: Mission accomplished?

facebook vote elections propaganda messaging
Facebook has reversed its election-season policy of prioritizing mainstream media stories in News Feed after a similar move from Twitter. This is as Mark Zuckerberg is sued for allegedly helping tip the vote in favor of Joe Biden.

An algorithm tweak that saw Facebook users deluged with mainstream media stories following last month's elections has been reversed, the social media behemoth told the New York Times on Wednesday, insisting that the change - which significantly boosted traffic for establishment outlets like CNN, NPR, and the Times itself while suppressing alt-media and right-wing sites - was never meant to be permanent.
