Latest storms in Spain severely damage summer fruits, grapes and peppers

hail apples
As reported by Agroseguro, the crops most affected by the recent rain and hail storms have been summer fruits, grapes and peppers, although it is still too early to know the actual extent of the damage. The most affected autonomous regions are Castile-La Mancha and Madrid.

Agroseguro has highlighted the incidents in municipalities such as Arganda del Rey, in Madrid, Seseña and Borox, in Toledo, Villanueva de los Infantes, in Ciudad Real, or Las Pedroñeras, in Cuenca, where the rains caused the overflow of streams and floods.

20 cows killed by lightning bolt in Spain

This is the distressing moment a farmer discovered his 20 cows dead after they had apparently been struck by lightning - freezing their blood in the process.

The gruesome deaths are thought to have happened during a thunderstorm on the Geras Mountain in the Spanish municipality of Geras de Gordon.

In the clip, the creatures' corpses are seen strewn across the mountain.

The farmer had reportedly rented the whole mountain so the cattle could graze.

But - despite the height at which they were living - neighbours claimed it is uncommon for lightning to strike cattle.

Hurricane Dorian: Florida declares state of emergency as it awaits storm's arrival

Puerto Rico was spared, but storm is expected to land in Florida Sunday night, potentially as a category 4 hurricane

Florida is bracing for the arrival of Hurricane Dorian with weather experts on Thursday proclaiming the state's entire east coast at risk.

A state of emergency has been declared and Donald Trump on Thursday canceled his forthcoming trip this weekend to Poland as the storm bears down. It was announced that the vice-president, Mike Pence, will travel to the eastern European nation in the president's stead.

Dorian could make landfall on Monday as a dangerous category 4 storm.

Puerto Rico's citizens breathed a sigh of relief earlier in the day at having avoided major damage from Hurricane Dorian, after it had been on a path this week to hit the US island territory directly.

The latest computer modeling of Dorian's path showed it arriving potentially as a category 3 hurricane or even as a powerful category 4 storm, on Florida's east coast early on Monday, the Labor Day holiday in the US.

Severe storms pummel Spain with hail and sheets of rain - Two tornadoes touch down near Malaga

tornadoes spain malaga

Dozens of videos have captured the moment a tornado ripped through Malaga.

It comes after eight litres of rain fell in just one hour, while other areas of Spain have flooded this evening.

The phenomenon has dragged olive trees across roads, disrupting traffic while destroyed power lines have resulted in blackouts.

The terrifying site was recorded in the town of Campillos, where the Town Hall has advised residents to 'stay in their homes'.

A statement by local Mayor Francisco Guerrero said that 'the worst has happened' and that the public should 'limit' the use of their vehicles.

The tornado was caused by colliding winds, a process also known as DANA (Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos).

This is similar to the famous gota fria - or cold drop - according to local meteorologist Jose Luis Escudero.

AEMET does not have stations in Campillos to record wind speeds and the tornado is not large enough to be seen by satellite.

There is currently a yellow weather warning in place in the north of Malaga Province where Campillos is located.

Play was suspended due to severe storms, however bystanders were caught in the midst of the danger.

Six people were injured after a lightning strike at the season-ending PGA Tour Championship event outside Atlanta on Saturday.

The PGA Tour said that two lightning strikes hit East Lake Golf Club at 4:45 p.m. ET, 28 minutes after the third round was suspended due to thunderstorms in the area. The Tour said that a tree in the area between the practice range, the 15th green and the 16th tee "was hit and debris from that strike injured four people."

The Tour added that six fans were taken from the course in ambulances for further medical attention. Atlanta Police spokesman James H. White III said the six had sought shelter beneath the tree that was struck by lightning. He said they were taken to hospitals for further treatment, all of them alert, conscious and breathing.

"Our latest report is that their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening," the statement added.
