Two trekkers die of cold at Khemenger glacier during unseasonal snow in Himachal Pradesh, India

Two mountaineers from Kolkata reportedly died while descending the Khemenger glacier in Spiti valley after crossing Parahio summit, officials said on Monday.

A six-member team from Arete mountaineering club, Kolkata, was on a trekking expedition to the glacier which is the main source of Rongtong stream. The glacier is 5,884 metres above the sea level. One of the trekkers, Abhijit Banik, along with a porter reached Kaza in the morning after trekking for two days and informed that two persons have died.

The duo said that it would take three days to reach the other members of the group, who are stuck in snow.

Lightning strikes kill at least 9 in Madhya Pradesh, India

At least nine people were killed due to lightning strikes in Dewas and Agar Malwa districts of Madhya Pradesh. Six people died in Dewas and while three lost their lives in Agar Malwa.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former Congress state president Arun Yadav have expressed grief over the deaths.

According to the official information, six people died due to lightning strikes in Dewas district on Monday in Tonkkhurd, Khal, Gagankheda and Bamnibujurg villages. Collector Chandramouli Shukla immediately sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those who died under the Revenue Book Circular 6-4 of Madhya Pradesh Government Revenue Department (Relief Branch).

Some people were also injured in the lightning strikes. They were rushed to hospital in Indore.

Disaster authorities in Thailand report dozens of provinces in the country have been affected by flooding after heavy rain over recent days brought by Tropical Storm Dianmu.

Thailand's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) reported flooding has affected 58,977 households across 27 provinces. Some of the affected areas had already seen flooding earlier this month after a period of heavy rain from 16 September brought by the Southwest Monsoon.

According to images and data from Thailand's Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), the worst of the flooding is in northern and central regions.

In the north, Sukhothai province is the worst hit area with 7,392 households affected, mostly in Sri Samrong, Khirimas and Muang districts, according to DDPM. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha visited flood-hit communities of Sukhothai's Sri Samrong district.

Heavy rainstorm triggers flooding, forces evacuation in China

A heavy rainstorm hit central China's Henan Province, forcing the evacuation of more than 4,100 villagers after rain-triggered floods caused severe damages to roads and disrupted local power and communication networks.

The storm, which left one person dead and two others missing, battered 15 townships of Nanzhao County since Friday morning, affecting nearly 300,000 people.

A total of 4,175 villagers have been evacuated to temporary shelters by Sunday morning, according to local authorities.


"Each village official is responsible for the evacuation of certain households. The officials have been evacuating villagers to the village administration center, schools and hotels. They will provide accommodation, free dishes and other supplies such as instant noodles, water and milk," said Li Dayong, deputy chief of Nanzhao County.

Electricians have rushed to villages to repair power and communication systems. Reservoirs in the county have also been releasing flood water to control the risk of breaches.

Again, Kuwaitis encountered on Sunday the most common scene in their daily life: sandstorm. Sand storms affect the Middle East heavily, and Kuwait is reportedly to be one of the hardest-hit countries in the region.

Three killed by lightning strike in Chhattisgarh, India

Lightning killed a man and two minors and injured two others on Sunday in a village in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district, police said.

The incident took place when the five from the same family were sowing potatoes in Duppi village, said Rajpur Station House Officer Akhilesh Singh.

As it began to rain, they took shelter under a tree. Suddenly, lightning struck, killing Shivlal Gond, Vinod (1) and Kajal (10). Rajpal and Shubham were injured.

Comment: On the same day 2 individuals were killed by a bolt in the state of West Bengal.

At least five people, including women and children, were killed in Sindh's Tharparkar district after being struck by lightning during thundershowers, ARY News reported on Saturday.

According to details, four people were also injured in different incidents of thunderbolts in parts of the Tharparkar region amid rainfall with the thunderstorm.

The injured and dead bodies were shifted to nearby hospitals, rescue officials said.

Moreover, 80 animals were also reported killed in different areas of Tharparkar district due to unprecedented incidents of lightning bolts.
