Heavy snow is registered this Saturday in Ushuaia and other areas of Tierra del Fuego with cold air that will reach southern Brazil on Tuesday.

A blizzard has hit southern Argentina since late morning this Saturday. The flakes began to fall in the city of Ushuaia around five in the morning and since then the white precipitation has not stopped. The snow intensified at times and fell hard, which brought accumulation and whitened the city of the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego.

According to data from the Ushuaia airport, snow was heavy in the early afternoon of this Saturday with a temperature between 0ºC and 1ºC. Since the end of the night, the temperature in Argentina's southernmost city has barely fluctuated, varying between -1ºC and 1ºC. A noisy, lightning-filled band of storms slowly crawled across Central Texas late Wednesday into the wee hours of Thursday, dumping up to 8 inches of rain in spots along the Interstate 35 corridor.

By daybreak, the storms drifted southeast, away from the Austin area, but the better news is that the Austin area is unlikely to see any more heavy rainfall this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

"The stronger front arrives by midday tomorrow," the weather service said in a bulletin Thursday afternoon. "This is the front we have all been waiting for that will give South Central Texas the first real taste of fall."

Forecasters said that "behind the front, north winds will kick in, ushering in cooler and drier air."

Heavy rainfall floods streets in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece - 10 inches of rain in a few hours turns roads into rivers

floods
Heavy showers on Thursday flooded streets across the Greek capital and in the northern port city of Thessaloniki, with the fire service receiving dozens of calls for help.

In the Athens suburb of Nea Filadelfia, pupils left their flooded classroom at an elementary school by building a bridge with their desks, while traffic had to be stooped on several occasions on major thoroughfares like Pireos, Hamosternas and Petrou Ralli when the water rose to unsafe levels.

The Athens-Lamia national highway, as well as Alexandras and Kifissias avenues inside the city, were gridlocked with traffic as a result of the ongoing downpours.

The Ministry of Civil Defense has appealed to citizens to avoid going outdoors unless necessary.

Multiple tornadoes touched down in Oklahoma and Kansas late Tuesday into Wednesday after days of violent weather damaged homes and businesses and knocked out power to thousands of people.

Many Oklahomans woke up to storm sirens as two likely tornadoes touched down in the Oklahoma City area Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt said there were no reported injuries in the city, but some roofs were damaged. "All in all, we're okay!" Hold wrote on Twitter Wednesday.

Two other suspected twisters touched down in the western part of the state, near Frederick and Clinton, about 85 miles west of Oklahoma City. The National Weather Service was surveying the area to confirm the intensity and scale of the tornadoes.

A twister in Clinton ripped off the roof of an auto repair shop and knocked over power lines and traffic signs. The Clinton Regional Airport reported 28 out of 29 hangars took damage; one collapsed on a plane and a vehicle. In Mustang, a vehicle was seen flipped over on its side near buildings with damaged roofs.

Storms across the Sydney area have dumped large hail.
The latest round of wild weather has brought large hail and heavy rain as supercell thunderstorms formed over eastern Australia.

Parts of Sydney have already felt the brunt; large hail has fallen in several areas and 24mm hit the rain gauge at Penrith between 3:00pm and 5:00pm AEDT.

The Bureau of Meteorology added a "risk of tornado activity" to its Sydney storm warning just after 3:00pm but it has since been removed.

Severe weather warnings remain current in several states so keep on top of the warnings for your local area.

South-east Queensland and northern New South Wales could well be in for more severe storms tomorrow.

Wellington's weather was so wild yesterday that a wave-height monitor was washed away across the harbour.

The Lower Hutt suburb of Eastbourne was completely cut off by large swells and debris. Roads on Wellington City's south coast were also closed after rocks from the seawall ended in the path of motorists.

Flights were disrupted and ferries across the Cook Strait cancelled.

By pure coincidence, regional and city councillors were visiting what is the maritime equivalent of an air traffic control centre on Beacon Hill at the time of the storm.

The signal station is staffed 24 hours a day and is the first point of contact for ships arriving to and departing from Wellington Harbour.
