Storms brought heavy rain and strong winds to parts of North Texas, causing some flooding issues and power outages Sunday.

As of 10 p.m. Sunday, there are still about 90,000 North Texans impacted by power outages, according to Oncor's outage map.

Tiffany householder watched high winds take down a construction project in Old East Dallas.

"Half of it came down, the first half of it," Householder recalled. "Then, we were sitting here trying to figure out what to do and then the whole thing just fell."

Lightning strike kills 2 in Kanchanpurm, Nepal

A lightning strike killed two in Kanchanpur on Sunday evening.

The Kanchanpur District Police Office informs that 22-year-old Deepak Rana and his wife Mantara Rana, 20, residents of Shantipur, Krishnapur municipality-7, died after the two got struck by lightning as they were returning home from a nearby river where they were fishing.

The two were rushed to a hospital but succumbed to injuries, informs DSP Chakra Bahadur Shah.

Their body has been taken to Seti Zonal Hospital for postmortem.

Lightning strike kills two jet skiers in Puerto Rico

Two people aboard jet skis were killed by lightning in waters along southern Puerto Rico, police said Monday. Authorities said lightning first struck a 36-year-old man driving a jet ski and then made contact with a 26-year-old woman who was a passenger on another nearby.

The driver of the second jet ski was not injured.

Police said the man died immediately while the woman died shortly after being brought ashore.

The deaths occurred late Sunday afternoon as Tropical Storm Earl swirled northeast of the island, dropping heavy rain at times.

According to the National Lighting Safety Council, Puerto Rico's last lightning fatality occurred almost exactly five years earlier, on Sept. 5, 2017.

A First Alert Weather Day has been declared for Friday as a massive wall of dust moved through the Southeast Valley. The dust storm formed in Casa Grande and moved into the Chandler and Gilbert area around 6 p.m. The wall of dust, which some call a haboob, was roughly 50 miles wide and up to 6,000 feet tall.

Aerials from Arizona's Family news chopper showed the dust consuming different neighborhoods. It was one of the most spectacular walls of dust so far this monsoon. Peak wind gusts reached up to 65 miles per hour, and there were numerous reports of zero visibility in the storm.

However, the storm and strong winds left many without power. At the storm's height, nearly 5,000 SRP customers were without power in the Southeast Valley. Meanwhile, for APS customers, about 2,000 people didn't have power in the metro Phoenix area.

Lightning strikes kill 23 people in Bihar, India

At least 23 people were killed in lightning strikes during monsoon storms in eastern India, officials said Saturday.

The deaths in Bihar state occurred during fierce weather between Wednesday and Friday, with the victims largely being farmers and laborers.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his condolences over the deaths and pledged compensation for the families of victims.

Eleven people were killed across several parts of the state on Friday in addition to the 13 who died over the preceding two days, according to a toll published by Bihar's disaster management authority.

Typhoon Hinnamnor brings strong winds to south Japan islands

Strong winds and driving rain were seen in Ishigaki, in Japan's southern Okinawa archipelago, as Typhoon Hinnamnor lingered in the area on Thursday, September 1.

Footage recorded by @mellows14605250 shows the conditions on the Okinawa prefecture island. Japan's Meteorological Agency said on Thursday that strong winds produced by Typhoon Hinnamnor were continuing in the area.

Lightning kills mother and son in Ghana

Favour Kamasah, a 30-year-old farmer together with her one-year-old son, Kofi Semenyo were killed by lightning at Ahlepedo-Dukpome in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region.

Mr Wemegah Eli, the Assembly man for the area, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the deceased, Favour, and son, died on the spot during the process of harvesting groundnut on the farm about 1500 hours.

"The deceased and some farmers were about to leave their farms after experiencing cloudy weather, when the incident happened," he said.

One Ratan Yadav (40), son of Jogi Yadav, a resident of Watizore No 2 village of Kheroni Charali and Mahesh Chauhan (45), son of Paltan Chauhan of Dikhreng Tilha Basti died due to lightning strike on Thursday evening at around 1.30 pm.

According to information, Ratan Yadav and Mahesh Chauhan were hit by lightning strike when they were going to tie their cow, bullock and goat outside their house respectively.

The cow, bullock and goat also died in this lightning strike. Yadav left behind a son and a girl, whereas Chauhan left behind two daughters and three sons. A team of Kheroni police reached the site and sent the body for postmortem.

Lightning is the killer natural force that caused the most deaths in 2021 across India with 2,880 recorded

The latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report reveals that more than 2,800 people died due to lightning in India in 2021. That's 40% of the total deaths caused by natural forces.

Lightning was the dominant factor which caused 94% of deaths by natural forces in Chhattisgarh. This figure was at over 80% in both Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. Karnataka too ranked high at 78.6%.

The year of 2021 saw many floods in Kerala, Maharashtra and it resulted in 656 deaths.

Out of 7,126 people who lost their lives in 2021 due to natural forces, 9.2% of them died in floods, while 8.7% died due to exposure to cold.

However, the overall number of deaths due to forces of nature like cyclone, tsunami, landslide, lightning, torrential rain and forest fires have actually declined from 7,405 in 2020.
