Three persons have been killed in separate incidents of attack by elephants in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, a forest official said on Monday.
The incidents took place late Sunday evening in Pathalgaon forest range of the district, located around 450 km from the state capital Raipur, he said.
As per the official, a 50-year-old native of Saraitola village, identified as one Dilsai Ram Chauhan, was returning on foot after work from nearby Dumarbahar village when he was attacked by an elephant.
Despite being advised by forest personnel not to take that route because of the presence of jumbos, Chauhan took the route, he said.

A 32-year-old resident of Cassa de la Selva in Girona died early in the morning of January 10 from injuries caused by a dog that attacked him.
The attack reportedly took place at around 9pm on Saturday, January 9, when the victim took a friend's dog for a walk.
The dog, an American Staffordshire Terrier, a breed which is considered to be potentially dangerous in Spain, attacked the man, causing serious injuries to his left arm.
A woman has died after she was attacked and reportedly partially eaten by a pack of dogs while she was running.
The body of the victim, identified as Sara Noemi Gaspani, 58, was found being mauled by the pack of dogs in Buenos Aires in Argentina on Boxing Day.
The woman worked as a local teacher and had been jogging in a suburban area of the city where three dogs were found eating part of her body.
An autopsy indicated, however, that around six dogs had taken part in the initial attack.
It also confirmed the suspicion that the dogs had not simply found the corpse and started eating it, but in fact, had attacked her causing a "fast and traumatic" death from multiple bite wounds.

Witnesses have described harrowing scenes at a Bowentown beach, near Waihī, in western Bay of Plenty, after a shark attacked a woman while she was swimming.
Despite emergency services performing vigorous CPR on the victim, who was in her early 20s, she died at the scene.
A rāhui has been placed around the area by local iwi as whānau gathered to mourn at a Coastguard building at the Bowentown end of Waihī Beach on Thursday night, where the victim's body was believed to be laying.
As the night came to a close, a group of locals and holidaymakers lit candles and had drinks in memory of the victim on the beach itself.
The family of four-year-old Milani Keke, who was mauled to death by two pitbulls in Gugulethu at the weekend, said they were struggling to come to terms with their loss.
Milani was attacked by the dogs when he tried to retrieve a ball while playing rugby with friends at home on Sunday.
The animals are currently in the care of the SPCA as investigations continue.
Speaking to the Cape Times on Monday, his traumatised mother, Nothemba Keke, said she was inside her home when the incident happened.

A renowned huntsman died after being attacked and gored by a pet stag.
An investigation is now underway into the freak tragedy in north Cork which claimed the life of the married father of three.
The huntsman - named locally in Liscarroll as Gerard 'Ger' Withers (45) - suffered fatal injuries after he was apparently attacked by the pet stag on Tuesday afternoon.
The tragedy occurred at the Duhallow Hunt Kennels in north Cork where the stag had been raised and kept as a pet.

A young boy in Russia has died in a vicious dog attack after his mother allegedly left him to go and drink vodka with a friend.
The boy's mother has been arrested by Russian police who they suspect abandoned him to see in the New Year on a drinking spree with a pal.
Reports say the unnamed mum-of-three had visited her friend who has a dog kennels in the town of Ivanteevka in the Moscow Oblast region on December 31.
Police have not publically named the mother and her child, but officers are referring to the boy only by his first name of Maxim.
A statement released by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on the Moscow region said that the mother and the owner of the kennel had left the children to feed the dogs.

Biologists on Saturday sounded the alarm with over 1,000 migratory birds, largely the endangered bar-headed goose, a highest-altitude migrant, were found dead over the past one week or so in Pong wetlands -- one of the largest in northern India in Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Conservator Wildlife (Pong wetlands) Upasna Patyal told IANS the reason for the deaths is still a mystery as their carcasses have been sent to different laboratories to determine their cause of death, but it could take days or at least a week to get results.

A man was disemboweled and trampled to death by an elephant in a vicious attack in Makueni, Kenya.
Charles Mutisya, 73, was killed on Wednesday morning while tending to his farm in the Nthunguni area of Kibwezi East sub-county.
The wild animal had strayed from the nearby Tsavo East National Park when it attacked the elderly man around 7 a.m.
"Police from Mtito Andei police station and Kenya Wildlife Services rangers visited the scene of the incident and found the body having visible injuries with intestines hanging outside the stomach," Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Naipeyan told Kenya News Agency on Wednesday.
