Workers find remains of man attacked by crocodiles in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

croc
The remains of a man who is believed to have been attacked by crocodiles were found in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, on Thursday.

Workers with the Puerto Vallarta water and sewage utility found a decapitated body with no limbs next to the Ameca River in Las Juntas, a community in the north of the coastal city near the border with Nayarit.

The victim was aged between 35 and 40, according to a report by the newspaper Tribuna de la Bahía. Authorities will attempt to establish his identity with DNA testing.

The discovery of the body came just over two weeks after a leg with crocodile bites was found on a Nuevo Vallarta beach near the mouth of the Ameca River. Authorities believe the limb may correspond to the torso located on Thursday.

Rogue dolphin attacks swimmers in Japan

Japanese media has reported that at least one
Japanese media has reported that at least one man was taken to hospital on Thursday after being bitten on Koshino Beach near Fukui. The first man was seeing grappling with the dolphin in shocking footage. He tried to escape but the dolphin chased and then bit him.
Two more swimmers have been bitten by what is believed to be the same dolphin responsible for attacks on at least six tourists at a Japanese beach resort.

Japanese media has reported that at least one man was taken to hospital on Thursday after being bitten on Koshino Beach near Fukui.

One man was bitten on both arms and the back of his hand on Thursday morning. Another attack then occurred in the afternoon where a second man suffered injuries to both fingers on his left hand.

In recent days footage has emerged in Japanese media showing apparent attacks on swimmers in and around the Koshino beach area.

In one, a man is seen grappling with a dolphin, whose fin is seen popping up out of the water as it becomes hostile. He tries to escape but the dolphin chases and then bites him.

Attacks have also occurred on other beaches in Fukui, with another video surfacing online in which people gather along the shore to watch dolphins swimming on Takanosu beach and a man is chased by them and has to run away.

Birdwatchers at a reservoir have said it was "extraordinary" to see a rare gull in Britain for the first time.

The kelp gull was identified at Grafham Water near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on Sunday.

The seabird is usually found throughout the southern hemisphere, but not this far into the northern hemisphere.

Gary Allport from Birdlife International said it was "amazing" to see the gull, which is normally a "coastal species".

"You do get them inland in certain places but usually only when they're breeding," he said.

"It's extraordinary really.

UK to reverse 'accidental' ban on edible insect farming

Propaganda push is selling eating bugs as usual, and suggests the UK is just going back to normal.

Good news guys, UK companies will soon be free to start producing and selling several species of "edible insects" again.

Apparently, one effect of Brexit is that the UK no longer belonged to the European Union's "novel foods" programme, which approved many varieties of insects for human consumption.

Because of this the farming and selling of insects as food has been essentially banned in the UK for years.

The BBC had a report about this a few days ago, bemoaning the impact on the UK's edible insect industry, and headlined:
Has Brexit squashed our edible insect industry?
The blurb goes on to repeat the all-too-familiar pro-bug eating propaganda, and suggests there could a "revival":
Bugs - the superfood that doesn't cost the earth. They're higher in protein than meat and release far lower CO2 emissions than livestock farming. So experts tell us that, if we want to save the planet, we should eat more insects. However, selling insects as food in the UK was essentially banned following Brexit, leaving the insect industry in limbo. But could there now be a revival?
The "revival" has been in the works for at least a few weeks. Last month the UK government launched a "consultation" on the legal status of edible insects, according to the Food Standard's Agency website:
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has set out plans to allow edible insects to remain on the market while they go through the Novel Foods authorisation process to assess their safety.
This means you can now legally farm and sell edible insects in the UK, despite there being no formal legal approval or even an "assessment of their safety".

Polar bear attacks woman in Norway's remote Svalbard Islands

Polar bear
A polar bear attacked a woman in Norway in the remote Arctic Svalbard islands. The polar bear injured the French tourist, leaving her with several wounds.

The unnamed woman was part of a 25-group camping trip in the Svalbard region. The group was camping at Sveasletta, in the central part of the Svalbard archipelago, which is roughly 800 kilometers (500 miles) north of the Norwegian mainland.

Authorities confirmed that the wounds were not life-threatening. Chief superintendent Stein Olav Bredli said that officials "badly injured" the bear and following "a professional assessment" officials put it to sleep.

"The French woman suffered injuries to an arm. Shots were fired at the polar bear, which was scared away from the area," he said. He did not disclose further details about the injuries. A helicopter swiftly flew her to the hospital in Longyearbyen.

Comment: Even though polar bears look cute, they are still wild animals who at times see humans as food. There are many stories of attacks by polar bears.

Kansas bison owner killed, deputy seriously injured
A body has been found near the site where an Ellsworth County Sheriffs deputy was attacked by a bison.

A woman called Ellsworth County 911 to report she found her nephew dead in a pen, and that she thought a bison had killed him. The location of the body was 1/4 of a mile from where the deputy was injured by a charging bison Sunday night.

The Ellsworth County Sheriff identified the deceased man as Scott Schroeder, 56, of rural Bushton. He was the owner of nearly two dozen bison he kept at that location. A preliminary cause of death is that Schroeder had been gored by an animal. The deputy remains in a Salina hospital after undergoing surgery. The bison was put down when it appeared it was preparing to charge the injured deputy again.

A seven-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being attacked by a cougar north of Rocky Mountain House on the weekend.

Chay Feuser, Cason Feuser's mom, said her son was staying with his two sisters and a family friend, Alishea, at a campsite near Buster Creek, Alta., Sunday morning when the animal attacked.

She said the kids were heading back to the trailer when the cougar latched onto Cason's head and neck, sending the other children screaming.

"Alishea jumps - flies - out of her lawn chair and runs down there and just grabs a big rock off the beach and just closes her eyes and throws it and prays to God she doesn't hit Cason," Chay said. "And thank God she hit the cougar right in the head and it startled him and he dropped Cason from his death grip."

STARS flew Cason to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton in stable condition, where he underwent surgery.
