Dog attacks have increased over 19% in Mexico City this year, with well over 100 victims seeking treatment for their injuries in public hospitals.

Federal data shows there were 5,665 dog attacks in the capital between January and July, an increase of 19.4%, or 920 incidents, compared to the same period of 2021.

Data obtained by the Milenio newspaper showed that 141 people have arrived at the emergency departments of public hospitals to seek treatment for dog bites this year. The number of people who sought hospital treatment for such injuries surged 40.7% last year to 280 from 199 in 2020, when COVID-related restrictions were at their peak in many cities, which seemed to explain a marked decrease in dog attacks across Mexico in that year.

The victim had been swimming in Lake Thonotosassa, northeast of Tampa, when the attack occurred.

Speaking to Fox 13, a witness explained how it wasn't immediately clear what had happened. "I just heard a scream and I looked up, and I didn't see anything," they recalled.

The swimmer then emerged from the water with a "big gash" on his face. He wrapped his gaping wound in a towel and was rushed to a hospital.

The beluga whale was first spotted in the River Seine on Tuesday, and has since become trapped in between two locks 40 miles from Paris
A Beluga whale, a protected species usually found in cold Arctic waters, has been seen in France's Seine river, with authorities urging people to keep their distance to avoid distressing the animal.

Officials in the Eure department of Normandy said late Wednesday that images suggested it was a beluga separated from its pod, though they did not specify its size nor where exactly it was seen.

An adult beluga can reach up to four metres (13 feet) in length, and while they migrate away from the Arctic in the autumn to feed as ice forms, they rarely venture so far south.

Planet saving fake-meat burger fails

So everyone "believes in climate change", but they apparently don't want to buy the fake-meat that is going to save us from storms, floods and droughts. It's another mystery of post-modern life that's solved by assuming that people say "Yes" to meaningless poll questions but "No thanks" to propaganda.

No one really believes their burger will stop cyclones in ninety years time.
McDonald's Ends Testing McPlant Burger, Adding Pressure on Beyond Meat Stock

By Naveen Athrappully, Epoch Times

McDonald's announced that it has concluded the U.S. trial of its McPlant burger, which is made with the plant-based protein manufactured by Beyond Meat (BYND).

In November 2021, McDonald's began testing the meat-free burger in eight restaurants across America. In February this year, the company introduced the McPlant burger at around 600 locations. According to third-party reports, the experiment ended as a failure. In a recent note, according to CNBC, JP Morgan analyst Ken Goldman cited employees from McDonald's revealing that the burger did not sell well enough.
This is a complicated way of saying "nobody wants to buy our product":
During the first-quarter earnings call in May, Beyond Meat founder and CEO Ethan Brown explained that the company is finding it difficult to pass on rising costs to customers. "You see all these new entrants coming in, and many of them are using price as a way to try to capture early market share," Brown said, according to the earnings call transcript published at The Motley Fool.

"And so while the animal protein industry has been able to substantially increase pricing to essentially offset significant reductions in volume, in our sector, we have not had the opportunity to do that."
Meat costs were rising too, but customers were willing to pay.

Another person, who was also attacked by the dogs, allegedly owned by a local farmer, was rushed to hospital. However, it's still unclear, whether anything provoked the dogs. One of the deceased, Riedewaan Sias, was reportedly found lying outside, on a road close to the farm.

According to witnesses, the deceased face bore the brunt of his injuries as it was covered with bite marks. An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said Sias was naked as his clothes were ripped to pieces. Distraught family members watched as their loved one was removed from the scene where he died.

Comment: Concerning the rarity of fatal attacks by jaguars see this extract from Wikipedia:
Attacks on humans

Further information: Man-eater

The Spanish conquistadors feared the jaguar. According to Charles Darwin, the indigenous peoples of South America stated that people did not need to fear the jaguar as long as capybaras were abundant.[97] The first official record of a jaguar killing a human in Brazil dates to June 2008.[98] Two children were attacked by jaguars in Guyana.[99] The jaguar is the least likely of all big cats to kill and eat humans, and the majority of attacks come when it has been cornered or wounded.[100]
