Heavy rains flood Barquisimeto, Lara, Venezuela

Floods were seen in 10 sectors of the city as drains were unable to contain the volume of water.

Roads filled with water, stopping traffic, and causing pedestrians to lose their footing.

Houses flooded, with belongings destroyed. Businesses closed as produce was ruined.

As flood waters subsided, debris filled the streets. Authorities are working to assess the extend of the floods impact.

A cold wave and heavy snowfall that crippled life in Istanbul for four long days, disrupting traffic and forcing schools to close, will finally leave on March 14, meteorologists have said.

The heavy precipitation that started early March 10 reached its peak on March 13, with 12 kilograms of snow falling over a square meter in Turkey's most populous city.

The height of the snow reached some 50 centimeters in districts on the Anatolian side. Precipitation caused fog over the Bosphorus, with the field of vision decreasing to some 200 meters on main highways.

Avalanche in Austria kills three, injures one

An avalanche in Austria killed three people and injured another on Friday, police in Lower Austria province said.

The Oesterreich paper said rescue teams pulled the three bodies from the avalanche in the Lackenhof resort by the Oetscher ski area, while the fourth person was badly hurt.

A police spokesperson gave no more details while the investigation continued.

Extreme cold in Cyprus: -8C in Troodos

Due to 'Philippos' extreme weather system, Cyprus is experiencing cold with snow reaching up to Nicosia.

Around 08.30 on Sunday morning it started snowing for a while, offering some magical moments to everyone.

However, as Iasonas Christodoulou from the Meteorology Department, no further snow is expected in Nicosia, even though there will be snow on mountainous and semi-mountainous areas.

As he noted, low temperatures will continue until Tuesday.

More March snow brings further disruption to Greece

As forecasted, a weekend of heavy snowfall sweeps over parts of Greece causing disruptions and travel chaos.

Large parts of north and central Greece also saw hours long snowfall on Saturday, including the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros, as well as the mountainous regions of Crete.

In the north of the country, temperatures had dropped to around minus 15 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit) overnight.

Motorists have been ordered to travel with snow chains in parts of mainland Greece to prevent them from getting stranded.

Floods hit Hérault in France today, on March 13th 2022.

Warnings are in place following heavy rains and high winds that have led to floods in the region.

A high amount of rainfall has led to the Orb river overflowing its banks, flooding local areas. Béziers has been particularly affected, as flood waters covered much of the town.

Evacuations have taken place as flood waters rise. Houses were flooded, with belongings destroyed.

Roads were closed as vehicles were covered by water. Traffic was stopped, with residents advised not to leave their homes unless necessary .

Malaysia - Deadly landslide in Kuala Lumpur after heavy rainfall

At least 4 people have died after heavy rainfall caused a landslide in a residential area on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 10 March 2022.

Part of a hillside crashed into homes and vehicles in Ampang Jaya in Hulu Langat District, eastern Selangor State, on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory. Parts of Hulu Langat District recorded more than 120 mm of rain in 24 hours to 10 March 2022.

Disaster authorities reported at least 15 homes damaged or destroyed, along with around 10 vehicles. Search and rescue teams were called in after 5 people were reported missing. As of 11 March, the bodies of 4 victims had been found and one person escaped with minor injuries. Rescue teams were continuing to search the area with tracker dogs to ensure there are no other victims remaining.

Mozambique - 12 killed as Cyclone Gombe brings strong winds and torrential rain - 8 inches in 24 hours

Disaster authorities in Mozambique report that at least 12 people have died after Cyclone Gombe swept across the country bringing winds of 165 km/h and rain of over 200mm in 24 hours.

Cyclone Gombe made landfall as a Category 3 Tropical Cyclone on Friday, 11 March 2022 on the coast between Mossuril and Mogincual districts in Nampula Province.

The International Organization for Migration said as many as 115,336 individuals have been affected by the storm, mostly in Nampula (Angoche, Moma, Mogovolas, Mucuburi, Monapo, Ilha, Lalaua, Mossuril, Nacala Porto and Meconta) and Zambezia (Namacurra, Gile, Nicoadala, Maganja, Pebane, Molocue, Mocubela, Mopeia, Mocuba and lle).

Two beef producers in Central Queensland lost stock in a lightning storm last week.

Over a dozen head of cattle were killed in two separate lightning strikes across Central Queensland last week.

The two incidents occurred at Morinish and Bluff, following a band of severe thunderstorms, which travelled across the region throughout the week.

Bluff grazier Cathy Hoare lost four stud Brangus cattle, including two cows and two calves at her Rockyview property.

This wasn't the first time Cathy lost stock due to a storm, having lost a similar number a few years ago in the exact same place.

6.4 magnitude earthquake shakes Philippines' main island

A powerful earthquake struck off the Philippines' main island Monday, jolting buildings in the capital Manila, but there were no immediate reports of damage and a tsunami warning was not issued.

The shallow 6.4-magnitude quake hit about 110 kilometres (68 miles) off Morong in Bataan province on Luzon island at 5:05 am (2105 GMT), with residents in nearby Manila woken by their buildings shaking.

Shallow quakes tend to do more damage than deep tremors, but the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said damage was not expected.

Comment: This significant quake struck within 5 minutes of another major one off West Sumatra, Indonesia.
