Palisades Tahoe resort in California breaks all-time snowfall record with 710 inches of snow

Palisades Tahoe has had the most iconic year yet, unveiling the Base to Base Gondola, opening the new high-speed six-pack Red Dog Chair, hosting the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup, and now Mother Nature has gifted Palisades Tahoe with the most snowfall since the turn of the millennium, breaking the previously held record of the 2016-2017 season.

With last night's snowfall of 10 inches, the previously held record of 707 inches of snowfall for the 2016-2017 season has been broken as Palisades Tahoe is now sitting at 710 inches of snow, which is 178% of its average season snowfall of 400 inches.

Strong magnitude 6.3 earthquake shakes Papua New Guinea

A strong earthquake shook Papua New Guinea on Wednesday but no serious damage or casualties were expected, officials said.

The magnitude 6.3 earthquake was centered in West New Britain province at a depth of 55.7 kilometers (35 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

It said the quake caused strong shaking, but economic losses and casualties were expected to be small.

A lightning strike killed two people and critically injured two others in Nargasai area of Birmal Tehsil of Lower South Waziristan Tribal District. Two person of the same family died and two others were injured due to lightning strike.

According to police sources, two members of the same family died and two others were injured when lightning struck their house in Nargasai area of Birmal Tehsil of Lower South Waziristan tribal district.

According to the police report, Noorshah Khan son of Asal Khan and her daughter Malala Bibi aged 09 years died due to lightning falling on a room of a house in Nargasai village.

Late season winter storm drops up to 22 inches of snow in parts of Wisconsin

A late season winter storm dropped more than a foot of snow in some parts of Wisconsin Sunday night into Monday morning. The latest accumulation leaves the Twin Ports area of Duluth and Superior just short of an all-time record.

The latest system created a wide range of snow totals with southeastern Wisconsin seeing 1 to 3 inches and between 5 and 19 inches in the far western and north-central parts of the state.

The Town of Northfield in Jackson County reported 22 inches of new snow. Black River Falls, slightly southeast of Northfield, reported 19.5 inches as of 8:48 a.m.

The State Emergency Service in Ukraine reported several rivers have broken their banks causing flooding in 8 regions of the country.

The State Emergency Service reported "a seasonal rise" of numerous rivers in the country including the Dnipro, Desna, Seym, Sozh, Pripyat and Horyn rivers.

As of 16 April, flooding had affected a total of 950 households across the oblasts (regions) of Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Rivne, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv and Zhytomyr.

6.6 magnitude earthquake shakes Fiji

A strong earthquake jolted the South Pacific island nation of Fiji on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The USGS said 6.6 magnitude earthquake on Richter scale hit southern Fiji at around 4.31 p.m. (0431GMT) with a depth of 562.5 kilometers (349.5 miles).

There has been no registered damage, according to the latest reports.

15 road sections shut after April snowstorm in Kazakhstan

Lightning strike kills 5 people in Cauca Department, Colombia

A lightning strike in the rural area of the municipality of El Tambo, in the west of the department of Cauca killed five people and left 15 injured on Saturday night. A 16-year-old teenager was among the deceased in the incident.

According to local media, the event occurred in the village of Loma Larga, in the Quilcace locality, while the community was gathered to participate in bingo and play a soccer game.

The injured individuals were attended to by the units of the Volunteer Fire Department of the municipality of El Tambo, who arrived at the site to handle the emergency and were then transferred to a medical center for further treatment.

At the same time, Fire Department units from the city of Popayan sent ambulances to transport the most seriously ill people to the capital of Cauca.

One person is dead after being caught in an avalanche in B.C. on Saturday while snowmobiling west of the Alberta border, according to Avalanche Canada.

The organization said on its website that three people were snowmobiling in the Thunderwater Lake riding area, which is west of Invermere in B.C.'s Columbia Valley, about 180 kilometres west of Calgary.

Avalanche Canada said two riders were swept up in a slide that was triggered near a rocky feature on the slope.

"One rider managed to ride off to the side, the other was caught and buried approximately two metres deep on a bench feature mid-path," said the posting.
