Believe it or not, there's video proof of early October powder turns already surfacing out of the Northern Rockies. A recent storm dropped 2 feet of snow across parts of the region, providing just enough base for some hike-to turns at a local ski area.
While North America has yet to spin its first chairs of the season and declare its first official open ski resort, that's not stopping skiers and riders from seeking out some pre-season turns. Resorts across California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Montana and Washington have received new snow over the last few days, creating some incredible fall scenery.

Heavy rains over the course of the week caused significant flooding throughout Costa Rica on Friday.
Alexander Solís, President of the National Emergencies Commission (CNE), said nearly 1,000 people have been evacuated to at least 16 different shelter sites due to overflowing rivers in the provinces of Puntarenas and Guanacaste.
"Since [Thursday], we've had intense rains, especially in the Central Valley and the Nicoya Peninsula, in addition in the Central Pacific," Solís said. "This has caused multiple situations, especially in the Sector of Paquita [...] and in Puntarenas, especially in Chacarita, El Establo and El Roble, where it was necessary to move people to shelters."
Solís also said landslides have blocked part of Route 160, which traverses the coast of Guanacaste, in addition to other streets in the northern province.
He warned the public to exercise caution as rains are expected to continue throughout Friday. Even shallow flood waters pose drowning risks, and vehicles can stall or be swept away by moving water.
Heavy rains in the northern and northwestern parts of Iran over the past two days claimed the lives of at least seven people, semi-official ISNA news agency reported on Saturday.
The unprecedented floods in the three provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan destroyed roads, houses and bridges, and caused heavy damage to the infrastructures, the report said.
Cars were stuck in flood, and electricity and gas flows in the rural areas were disrupted.

A Las Vegas woman was mauled to death by her family dog late Monday, Oct. 1, 2018. Her husband posted this picture on Sept. 27 on Facebook. (Facebook)
A Las Vegas man came home from work Monday night to find his wife of 26 years mauled to death by the family's newly adopted dog.
What happened moments before the attack remained unknown Friday. Susan Sweeney, 58, was home alone when their 3-year-old rescue dog attacked her on the 5000 block of River Splash Avenue, said city of Las Vegas spokesman David Riggleman.
The woman's husband, Patrick, arrived home from work shortly before 11:40 p.m. Monday and found her dead in their living room, according to the Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County coroner's office.
She was declared dead about 1:05 a.m. Tuesday in the home. The coroner's office ruled her death an accident by mauling.
"This is really a mystery because she was home alone," Riggleman said Friday. "I can't even imagine what that poor man thought when he walked in that house."

The first widespread snowstorm of the season is set to excite winter enthusiasts but can cause some travel problems from the Rocky Mountains to the northern High Plains in the upcoming days.
After soaking the Pacific Northwest to end Friday, the storm is expected to track slowly through the Rockies and onto the High Plains this weekend and into Monday.
Small-scale storms have brought snow to parts of these regions already this season, including as recently as Friday. This storm, however, is expected to bring the most far-reaching swath of snow since last winter.
Snow will initially fall in the mountains early in the weekend before spreading to the lower elevations of the northern Rockies and northern High Plains Sunday into Monday.

Hurricane Walaka and Super Typhoon Kong-rey attained Category 5 strength in the Pacific Ocean on Monday, marking the first time in 13 years two storms of that intensity have roamed the tropics simultaneously.
Walaka was deemed a Category 5 by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center at 8 p.m. EDT Monday while it was well to the southwest of Hawaii. Kong-rey hit this top rating on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale a few hours later at 11 p.m. EDT Monday, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
Category 5 tropical cyclones have maximum sustained winds of 157+ mph.
Kong-rey and Walaka did not remain a duo of Category 5 tropical cyclones very long. Both were downgraded to strong Category 4 storms at 11 a.m. EDT Tuesday.
The last time two Category 5 strength typhoons or hurricanes coexisted was July 17, 2005, according to Dr. Phil Klotzbach, a tropical scientist at Colorado State University. On that day Hurricane Emily was raging through the western Caribbean as Super Typhoon Haitang pushed toward Taiwan over the western Pacific waters.
