Saudi Arabia is experiencing its coldest weather since 2016, meteorologists said Thursday, with overnight temperatures dropping below zero in the country's north over the past two days.

In Tarif, on the border with Jordan, the temperature hit minus 5 degrees Celsius (23 degrees Fahrenheit), according to the weather services. It dropped to minus three in Hail further southeast, and minus 2 in Arar on the border with Iraq.

In the capital Riyadh, the temperature dipped close to zero and the streets were deserted Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

The desert kingdom is known for its extreme heat, particularly during summer.

A four-year-old boy has died after his throat was ripped out by a Rottweiler in a savage attack at the family home.

The young victim was left in a pool of his own blood after the horrific incident in the village of Pishchanka in northeastern Ukraine's Kharkiv region.

The boy, Denis, died at the scene from his injuries.

The youngster and his grandmother Olga were planning to take a walk when the tragedy occurred.

Storm Dennis has exploded into a bomb cyclone as meteorologists dub it one of the worst North Atlantic storms ever recorded.

No fewer than 40,000 passengers have been affected by travel disruption so far as budget airline easyJet cancels 234 flights from, to and within the UK as the fourth named storm of the year brings 70mph winds and 100mm of rainfall in some areas from Saturday morning.

Storm Dennis will come as a second blow to flood-ravaged communities still recovering from damage caused by heavy rainfall and 80mph winds brought by Storm Ciara last week.

The last storm - likely the biggest in the century - claimed three victims after a falling tree killed a 58-year-old Mercedes driver, a 77-year-old man fell over and banged his head on ice and a falling branch killed a dog walker in his sixties.

And now, 1,200-mile wide 'Dennis the Menace' is to cause mayhem for towns in Yorkshire's Calder Valley, which was inundated with floodwater when Storm Ciara raged.

The Environmental Agency have warned that due to the water-soaked ground left over by Storm Ciara, the latest flooding is expected to be worse than what has been seen so far, the BBC reports.

Record snows blanket the Middle East from Iraq to Iran to Syria, and areas of Iraq south of Baghdad seeing snow for the first time in over 100 years. Remember record flooding in these same areas spring/ summer last in 2019 as well. Cyclones in both N. Atlantic and N. Pacific. In the N. Atlantic area air pressure became too low for propeller aircraft to fly, rare was what was stated for this event.

A heavy cold front hit Turkey with snow and temperatures dropping to -15°C in some parts of the country. Fruit and vegetable crops were affected, particularly citrus groves in the Adana region, the leading citrus fruit producer in Turkey, boasting around 30 thousand hectares destined to the cultivation of oranges, lemons and tangerines.

Around 70% of companies have reported heavy damages, but the effects will be fully visible only in a few days' time. During 4-5 nights, the temperature dropped to -7°C. Luckily, most of the fruit has already been harvested, but the problem remains due to the typical effect of post-frost phylloptosis on plants as leaves wilt and tend to fall.

Early February setting records for snowfall in south west Montana

The first nine days of February have been impressive for snow across SW Montana, especially east of the divide.

The month began with near record highs wiping out most of the lower valley snowpack. That quickly changed by the 2nd of February with storm after storm through the 8th of February.

Many (not all) valleys east of the divide across SW Montana have seen between 1' to just under 2' of snow in the first nine days of the month and ski resorts are reporting around 3.5' of new snow.

Comment: A few days later days on the 12th heavy snowfall continued in the area with Showdown being dumped upon with 28 inches of the white stuff in 24 hours.

The main road at the Fishkhabour international border crossing in the province of Duhok has been blocked due to unusually heavy snowfall that has covered most cities in the Kurdistan Region, as well as several others southward in Iraq where snow is rarely seen.

Local sources reported that transportation has been closed due to snow accumulation, stopping travelers and transport of goods between the Kurdistan Region and Syria.

The Fishkhabour border crossing is located on the Tigris River in Zakho district, 85 km west of Duhok city. It was established in 1991 and remains a key gateway connecting the Kurdistan Region to Syria, though the volume of goods passing through is limited.

Mexico's mighty Popocatepetl volcano erupted Thursday, with a dramatic show of lava flying from its crater and an ash column rising some 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) into the night sky.

According to reports, the explosion occurred at 00:55 local time (06:55 GMT).

Popocatepetl is 5,426 meters (17,802 feet) tall and is the second-highest mountain in Mexico and the fifth-highest in North America.

El Popo, as it is affectionately known locally, is one of Mexico's most active volcanoes.

A four-year-old boy has been left bloodied and traumatised after being attacked by wallabies in far north Queensland.

Elijah Deacon's mother was forced to fight off the mob after he suffered deep scratches and bites.

Elijah was playing with his brother at a sports field in Cairns when the animals chased him down and knocked him to the ground.

His distraught mother, Riana, has told 7NEWS the attack was relentless and vicious.

She says she managed to fight the animals off, before they started chasing her.

A six-year-old boy was killed in Multan's Shershah after a stray dog attacked him.

The boy, Sujawal, had gone into the fields to play when the dog attacked him, his family said.

Residents want the culling campaign to be restarted in the area. But the District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Munawar Abbas believes the reason for the attacks is because people have kept the dogs as pets.

The Multan Metropolitan Corporation has informed the provincial health department multiple times of the failure of the culling campaign.
