Google workers protest $1.2 billion Project Nimbus contract with Israeli military

'I feel like I am making my living off of the oppression of my family,' a Palestinian Googler said.

A group of Palestinian, Jewish, Muslim and Arab Google employees are speaking out against the tech giant's Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion contract involving Google, Amazon and the Israeli government and military.

"We are proud that Google Cloud has been selected by the Israeli government to provide public cloud services to help digitally transform the country," Google spokesperson Shannon Newberry told TechCrunch. "The project includes making Google Cloud Platform available to government agencies for everyday workloads such as finance, healthcare, transportation, and education, but it is not directed to highly sensitive or classified workloads."

But according to a report from The Intercept, Google is offering advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning to the Israeli government, which could augment the country's use of digital surveillance in occupied Palestinian territories. The contract also reportedly prevents Google from denying services to specific Israeli government entities, such as the Israeli Defense Force (IDF).

Comment: It's nice to see the laptop-toting SJWs actually fighting a worthwhile cause for a change.

Comment: Whether or not he's having another 'episode,' he's not wrong about Hollywood (probably not wrong about Hillary, either).

The average credit card debt held by households in the United States surged by 13 percent in the second quarter, the largest increase in such debt since 1999, according to an Aug. 30 report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

More consumers are increasingly relying on credit amid sky-high inflation in order to pay their bills.

Credit card balances increased by $46 billion from last year, becoming the second-biggest source of overall debt last quarter, though it is below pre-pandemic levels.

An Argentina-based yoga group sexually exploited vulnerable women it called "geishas" to get money and influence from wealthy and powerful men around the world, including opera star Placido Domingo, who knew the organization's leaders for more than two decades, according to interviews with former members and local authorities.

A sprawling investigation into the sect-like Buenos Aires Yoga School, which operated for over 30 years in Argentina's capital, has uncovered what authorities are calling a criminal organization involved in sex trafficking, money laundering, involuntary servitude, illegal practice of medicine and other crimes. Nineteen members have been arrested in the investigation that reaches into the U.S., where six more suspects are sought.

Despite its name, the school did not offer yoga classes. Leaders are accused of preying on people to join its ranks with promises of eternal happiness and then exploiting them sexually and financially, according to charging documents.

Three Canadian law enforcement officers have been charged with manslaughter in the 2020 shooting death of an 18-month old baby, officials announced Wednesday.

Toddler Jameson Shapiro was shot and killed in November 2020 when constables with the Ontario Provincial Police attempted to stop a truck driven by the boy's father in the City of Kawartha Lakes, according to the The Peterborough Examiner.

Police said the man had abducted his son from a home in Trent Lakes, about 25 miles away.

I know because I sat around the cabinet table as politicians, scientists, economists and epidemiologists agonised over the extent to which lockdown would devastate lives and livelihoods. It was not an easy decision for anyone. We locked down because we knew the cost of 'letting Covid rip' was far more damaging to both the health and wealth of the nation. But as the pandemic fades into our collective memory - and critics try to rewrite history - it's clear that the biggest mistake we made was not locking down but doing so too late.

I vividly remember the morning of Saturday, March 14th 2020 when, as part of a small team of advisers gathered in the Prime Minister's office, Boris Johnson was told that the initial plan for managing the pandemic was failing. Without urgent intervention, the country's healthcare system would collapse under the strain of tens of thousands of seriously ill patients. The challenges facing us in that first wave were immense. We knew the NHS didn't have enough beds, there was a massive shortfall in PPE and a severely limited number of ventilators.

Just moments ago, he referred to MAGA forces who are apparently marshaling at Red Lobster near you, ready to take over this country. Now, to underscore how deeply Joe Biden means all of this, tonight's address in Philadelphia is not being categorized as a campaign event ahead of the midterm elections, which is what it looks like. No. Instead, this speech has the full sponsorship of the White House.

In other words, what Joe Biden is saying right now is the official position of the entire executive branch of the U.S. government. That would include the Justice Department, the various Intel agencies and the world's most powerful standing military. Think about that. Does it make you nervous? You don't have to be a Trump voter to see a speech like this as a turning point in American history. For hundreds of years, the U.S. has had a political system comprised of two competing parties. If you were to declare one of those parties criminal and illegitimate, what would you be left with?

The first responders were killed in their sleep, according to the head of the local emergency ministry

At least 13 firefighters, rescuers and medics have been killed, and nine others injured, in a "targeted" Ukrainian missile strike that destroyed their living quarters in the middle of the night, officials from the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) have claimed.

The attack targeted facilities in the village of Rubtsy at around 4am local time on Thursday, according DPR emergency ministry chief, Aleksey Kostrubitskiy.

On Wednesday, Greenwich Public Schools announced that they would be launching a "full investigation" into Cos Cob Elementary School Assistant Principle Jeremy Boland after a Project Veritas report revealed that he discriminates against potential hires based on religion and political persuasion, and pushed teachers to include liberal ways of thinking into their studies.

"Late last evening, we were made aware of a video that had gone viral with a current administrator from Cos Cob School," an email obtained by Project Veritas from Dr. Toni Jones, Superintendent of Schools, read.

'If you can't measure it, you can't fix it'

Center-right scholars have developed a measurement tool "scorecard" that allows students, parents, taxpayers and legislators to determine how embedded diversity, equity and inclusion principles and practices are at a given institution.

It will "allow stakeholders to assess the damage already done and identify areas for action," said Portland State University Professor Bruce Gilley in a news release that called the tool a way to measure DEI "sickness" levels at colleges and universities.

Gilley is chapter president of the Oregon Association of Scholars, which developed the tool along with the National Association of Scholars.
