NYC cops who stalked, harassed and beat innocent postal worker cleared of all charges

Karim Baker

A dangerous precedent has been set in New York this week after two NYPD officers who stalked and beat an innocent postal worker — to the point of hospitalization, leaving him disabled — were let off with zero consequences.

Angelo Pampena, 32, and Robert Carbone, 30, faced up to seven years in prison on charges that they violently assaulted postal worker Karim Baker on Oct. 21, 2015. On Thursday, Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise cleared both of these cops — in spite of the overwhelming evidence against them — including video. Both of their cases were sealed and dismissed.

Baker had done nothing wrong and was being actively stalked by multiple NYPD cops for simply giving a man, who he did not know, directions.

On Dec. 20, 2014, a deranged lunatic would ask Baker for directions to the Marcy Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Baker did not know this lunatic and had no idea of his intentions. However, he was seen on video giving him those directions. That demented madman was Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who went on to murder two NYPD cops in cold blood — Officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32 — before killing himself.

For the next ten months, NYPD officers allegedly set out to make Baker's life a living hell after they found out he gave Brinsley those directions. Baker was stopped around 20 times by NYPD cops, before the final stop, in which they nearly killed him.

"I was being harassed, like cops outside by door and my family members' doors, friends' doors, just everybody. I felt just some type of way," Baker said last year of the stalking.

"Mr. Baker began to be systematically harassed. He was pulled over by the police for various minor traffic infractions approximately 20 times in the span of nine months," said Eric Subin, Baker's attorney.

This final stop was caught on video.

Comment: A sad state of affairs where all you need in order to get away with felony-grade assault in New York City is a badge.

UK higher education minister: Free speech must trump safe spaces in universities

Freedom of speech will be enshrined in law at university campuses across the country, including student unions, if Boris Johnson's brother is to have his way.

Higher education minister Jo Johnson, younger brother of the foreign secretary, has written to higher education institutions warning that a commitment to freedom of speech will have to be clearly outlined in their governance structures. Free speech must prevail and counter censoring forces, including those asking for 'safe spaces,' the minister said.

According to the original report in the Times, Johnson told Universities UK chief executive Nicola Dandridge that universities had the "legal duty" to host speakers of any belief, be they "members, students, employees or visiting speakers."

"It is important to note that the duty extends to both the premises of the university and premises occupied by the students' unions, even when they are not part of the university premises," he said, adding that access should not be "denied to any individual or body on any grounds connected with their beliefs or views, policy or objective."

At least four people were killed after a suspected suicide car bomb rocked the Somali capital of Mogadishu Tuesday. The explosion occurred near the city's National Theatre, less than 1km from the presidential compound.

"A suicide car bomb rammed into a checkpoint near the National Theatre. It is too early to know details and casualties," local police officer Ahmed Hussein was quoted as saying by Reuters.

"Casualty numbers may rise. There were pedestrians along the street at the time of the explosion," he told Reuters.

Video verified by RT from the area around the National Theatre shows destroyed cars and debris scattered across the ground.

Local media have reported conflicting death tolls, ranging from five to seven people dead.

Trump is on witness list for pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein case

trump epstein
President Donald Trump is on the witness list for a civil trial, involving a Florida attorney, who represents convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein's alleged victims, and the disgraced billionaire himself.

"President Donald Trump has been identified as an individual who may have information relating to these allegations," attorney Jack Scarola told LawNewz.com in an interview. Scarola is representing attorney Bradley Edwards, a party in the case.

Scarola told LawNewz.com that they have evidence that at least one of the now (former) employees at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club were recruited by Epstein's agent to become involved in a pattern of alleged molestations.

The civil trial, which is expected to begin soon, is a complicated one and dates back to 2009. It involves allegations of malicious prosecution, and defamation filed by Florida attorney Bradley Edwards. Edwards also represents several of Epstein's alleged victims who brought separate civil cases against Epstein. But, what is particularly interesting about this latest case is that it now appears to involve President Donald Trump himself.

Comment: Many in the alt media are convinced Trump is waging a not-so-secret war on the high-profile pedophiles, others are certain he's one of the gang. We can be sure of two things: Trump knew Epstein, and the FBI has been arresting a lot of pedophiles since Trump took office. See:

What fascism really looks like: Ukrainian law proposes "language inspectors" to hunt down Russians

ukraine banner
"Ukrainian language or death"
In Ukraine in the near future, hefty fines for "neglecting linguistic standards" could be enforced. Among other offenses, translating proper names and the titles of government agencies into Russian will be charged.

In especially "malicious" cases, offenders will be prosecuted with criminal cases. For example, addressing President Poroshenko as "Petr Alekseevich" [the polite Russian form of addressing someone - JA] or naming the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Russian, even in a Russian text, will be criminal.

The corresponding bill No. 5670 is being studied by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (which would henceforth also have to be called by its Ukrainian appellation). This document was submitted on January 19th, 2017 by a group of deputies mainly from Western Ukraine and Kiev. Among its authors are the infamous Anna Gopko, Oksana Syroid, Semen Semenchenko, Andrey Teteruk, and others.

The aim of the new legislation is "developing the Ukrainian language as the language of the titular nation." This bill would replace the existing law titled "On the Principles of State Language Policy."

Comment: Western liberals should go to Ukraine for a month and see what it's really like to live under a racist, fascist regime. They might get some perspective. (Then again, they might just get some ideas...) This is what modern fascism looks like:

Migrants and left wing groups come together, attack police in Paris with flares and petrol bombs

Algerian flags mingled with Antifa banners as migrants and left wing extremists gathered on the streets of Paris to attack police and protest deportations in a "March for Justice and Dignity".

The event was nominally organised to protest alleged police brutality in the case of an individual identified in the media as Théo - but despite that individual speaking out against the escalating violence in France, marchers used the occasion as an opportunity to bombard police with Molotov cocktails and burning flares in extraordinary scenes on Sunday.

Rioters on the march pressed grievances on issues which stretched far beyond policing in high-crime migrant communities, however, carrying banners calling on the government to end deportations of illegal migrants.

A federal jury has ruled in favor of the estate of an Army veteran who died on the floor of a jailin Tulsa, Oklahoma. Elliott Williams broke his neck and was lying naked and paralyzed for 51 hours. The county is ordered to pay the family $10 million.

On Monday, the jury returned after deliberating for around 10 hours and found that Williams' civil rights were violated by both the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office and former Sheriff Stanley Glanz, who was ordered to pay the family an additional $250,000 in punitive damages from his own pocket.

Williams, an Army veteran, was arrested by Owasso police after suffering a mental breakdown. His only alleged crime was a misdemeanor for obstruction, but Williams died in custody before the formal charges could be filed.

Comment: Such incidents are becoming more and more common within the US. The average tax paying citizen shouldn't have to pay for the corruption, apathy, and inhuman contempt that leads to tragic cases such as this. The people involved should be charged and tried just like any other citizen would be. That, at least would begin to truly hold lawless officers to account.

Chicago 15-year-old gang-raped on Facebook Live; none who watched reported attack to police

A 15-year-old Chicago girl was apparently sexually assaulted by five or six men or boys on Facebook Live, and none of the roughly 40 people who watched the live video reported the attack to police, authorities said Tuesday.

Police only learned of the attack when the girl's mother approached police Superintendent Eddie Johnson late Monday afternoon as he was leaving a department in the Lawndale neighborhood on the city's West Side, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. She told him her daughter had been missing since Sunday and showed him screen grab photos of the alleged assault.

He said Johnson immediately ordered detectives to investigate and the department asked Facebook to take down the video, which it did.

Guglielmi tweeted Tuesday that detectives found the girl and reunited her with her family, and that they're conducting interviews. He said Johnson was "visibly upset" after he watched the video, both by its contents and the fact that there were "40 or so live viewers and no one thought to call authorities."

The nightmare that is Dubai

dubai
© The Independent
Dubai was meant to be a Middle-Eastern Shangri-La, a glittering monument to Arab enterprise and western capitalism. But as hard times arrive in the city state that rose from the desert sands, an uglier story is emerging. Johann Hari reports

The wide, smiling face of Sheikh Mohammed - the absolute ruler of Dubai - beams down on his creation. His image is displayed on every other building, sandwiched between the more familiar corporate rictuses of Ronald McDonald and Colonel Sanders. This man has sold Dubai to the world as the city of One Thousand and One Arabian Lights, a Shangri-La in the Middle East insulated from the dust-storms blasting across the region. He dominates the Manhattan-manqué skyline, beaming out from row after row of glass pyramids and hotels smelted into the shape of piles of golden coins. And there he stands on the tallest building in the world - a skinny spike, jabbing farther into the sky than any other human construction in history.

But something has flickered in Sheikh Mohammed's smile. The ubiquitous cranes have paused on the skyline, as if stuck in time. There are countless buildings half-finished, seemingly abandoned. In the swankiest new constructions - like the vast Atlantis hotel, a giant pink castle built in 1,000 days for $1.5bn on its own artificial island - where rainwater is leaking from the ceilings and the tiles are falling off the roof. This Neverland was built on the Never-Never - and now the cracks are beginning to show. Suddenly it looks less like Manhattan in the sun than Iceland in the desert.

Once the manic burst of building has stopped and the whirlwind has slowed, the secrets of Dubai are slowly seeping out. This is a city built from nothing in just a few wild decades on credit and ecocide, suppression and slavery. Dubai is a living metal metaphor for the neo-liberal globalised world that may be crashing - at last - into history.

Say what?! Welsh ISIS hacker hid information on secret cufflink memory stick

An Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) hacker who hid terrorism data in memory sticks disguised as cufflinks and plotted to down drones now faces jail.

On Monday, Samata Ullah admitted his membership of a secretive IS hacking collective and planning weapons programs.

Ullah was arrested after an international sting operation monitored conversations between him and a Kenyan contact who planned anthrax strikes in the East African nation.

Comment: Where does this guy get his ideas from - the US government?!

He pleaded guilty to five charges at the Old Bailey on Monday. These include preparing terrorist acts, membership of IS and training terrorists.

Comment: Cufflink memory sticks with extremist data on it? Sounds like CIA Vault 7 stuff.
