Busted pipeline has been spewing methane into the Cook Inlet for more than three months

bubbling oil
An eight-inch pipeline in Alaska's Cook Inlet has been belching up to 310,000 cubic feet of methane into the ocean each day, for more than three months — but it could be May before anyone can shut it down.

In December, Hilcorp Alaska's pipeline ruptured and began spewing an enormous quantity of methane into the ocean — but the leak went unreported to the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration until a helicopter pilot spotted frothing and bubbling at the surface on February 7.

"PHMSA said that the natural gas discharge could pose a risk to public safety, the environment and marine mammals and has given Hilcorp until May 1 to permanently repair the line or shut it down," EcoWatch reports.

By May, another 16 million gallons of the environmentally-deleterious gas could empty into the sea, conservation groups admonished — several of which submitted a letter exhorting the Trump administration for an immediate shutdown.

"This dangerous leak could stop immediately if regulators did their job and shut down this rickety old pipeline," asserted Miyoko Sakashita, oceans program director for the Center for Biological Diversity, on the crippled 52-year-old structure. "We're disgusted with the Trump administration's lack of concern about this ongoing disaster. Every day the leak continues, this pipeline spews more pollution into Cook Inlet and threatens endangered belugas and other wildlife."

Kansas Supreme Court rules that reclined car seats justify warrantless searches

reclining seat
No longer permissible.
In one of the most stereotypical, rights-violating and tyrannical laws we've ever seen, the Kansas Supreme Court just ruled that a reclined car seat is suspicious behavior and can be used by police as a justification for warrantless searches. As if the police needed another reason to stop and harass you, they can now do so — based entirely on your seat posture while riding in a vehicle.

Prior to heading to the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals first concluded that a reclined seat "does not significantly add to the probable-cause analysis" because reclining in a seat is "a common, innocuous activity." Howard, 51 Kan. App. 2d at 38. However, if the officer sees a plastic bag in a car with a reclined seat — they now have probable cause. Howard, 51 Kan. App. 2d at 41.

The case of the State of Kansas v. Cameron Howard began when Howard allegedly attempted to avoid a traffic light by driving through a parking lot. Claiming this gave him probable cause to detain and otherwise extort Howard, a police officer pulled him over. That's when the officer noticed the 'suspicious' passenger seat that was in a slightly reclined position.

Ignoring the fact that the passenger seat was occupied by Howard's pregnant companion, the officer ordered Howard out of the vehicle. He then noticed an empty plastic bag and claimed this gave him probable cause to search the vehicle. During the warrantless search of the vehicle, the officer found a handgun under the floor mat.

Karanganyar Police arrested a man suspected to be a pedophile. The alleged suspect, Fajar, has allegedly sexually abused 16 underage boys. Karanganyar Police Chief Commissioner Ade Safri Simanjuntak stated that the case was revealed following a confession from one of Fajar's victims. "The victim confessed to his teacher, that he was once sexually abused by the suspect," said Ade on Monday, March 20, 2017.

School administrators immediately reported the discovery to the victim's parents, where they followed it by reporting the case to the police. "We acted swiftly by collecting initial evidence and witness statements," Ade said. After police obtained enough initial evidence, including the victim's report, they immediately arrested the suspect who lives in the same neighborhood as the victim.

According to Ade, the suspect has been committing his crimes for 14-years between 2003 and 2016. "A victim was even sexually abused three times," Ade said.

Ade stated that the suspect targets 8 to 10-years old boys. "One of his [earlier] victims is now an adult," Ade added.

Ade explained that the Police are currently approaching other victim's families. Ade added that there are parents who were not even aware of their child being a victim of pedophilia

A former prison guard at a youth detention center in the Northern Territory, Australia, posted a video of himself to Snapchat daring a child detainee to eat feces and asking other inmates to perform oral sex on him.

A former youth justice officer at the Don Dale Youth Detention Center, Conan Zamolo, admitted to the acts before the Northern Territory Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children on Monday, but dismissed it as "joking around." The evidence was given as part of an inquiry into widespread abuse at the center.

"It's just the kids goofing around. Something to pass the day," Zamolo told the inquiry's Darwin hearing. "I can see now it was inappropriate."

The allegations relate to 2014 when the footage was posted to social media app Snapchat, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Zamolo told the commission that he shared the videos online as he found the behavior of the inmates amusing.

The Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office said in a legal filing Monday that Richard Keenan, a former Hubbard mayor, admitted on several occasions raping and molesting a child over a three-year period - beginning when she was 4.

Keenan, who served as Hubbard mayor in 2010 and 2011, was indicted last month on eight counts of rape and 12 counts of attempted rape and gross sexual imposition. A rape conviction carries a sentence of life in prison.

According to the filing by Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman, Keenan, 65, made the admissions to his wife, a pastor, a social worker and his brother and sister-in-law.

Wildman's filing states that when Keenan's wife, Diana, heard about the assaults from the child, "upon confronting [her husband] about the allegations, [Keenan] responded, 'I did it.'"

The filing states Keenan also admitted sexual abuse during "group discussions" while he was in the ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital psychiatric ward.

Analysts slam quality of life in Russia; Moscow resident strikes back

apple store camping
A photograph of a civilized society.
Living in Russia is the equivalent of voluntarily submerging yourself in a grain silo full of poisonous spiders, according to a gentleman at Forbes who read a website.

Kenneth Rapoza, who covers business and investing in emerging markets for Forbes, had this to say about the appalling quality of life in Russia:
[W]hen it comes to overall quality of life, Russia ranks lower than all of the big emerging markets. Even Mexico with its corruption and drug lords does better.

According to the big data cost of living number crunchers at Numbeo, Russia's biggest problems are weather; Moscow traffic that makes the 405 in Los Angeles and the Marginal in Sao Paulo seem tame; outrageous real estate prices in city centers, and pollution.

A representative of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance largely made up Kurdish and Arab militias, has confirmed that the Pentagon is planning to deploy an additional 1,000 US ground troops to Syria to assist the SDF in the upcoming operation aimed at liberating Raqqa, the de facto capital of Daesh's caliphate.

"Every two days the US deploys a large amount of weapons, primarily heavy armaments, to the region. They have sent tanks, armored vehicles, missiles, sniper rifles, mortar launchers and other types of weaponry," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Sputnik Turkey. "In addition, the United States has told us that a decision was made to send an additional 1,000 US troops to take part in the Raqqa operation."

According to unconfirmed reports, this deployment is likely to take place in the coming weeks.

Comment: Both Russian and American troops are in Manbij, blocking the Turks and FSA from taking it. On the other side of the land occupied by the Turkish-backed FSA, the Russians have just entered Kurdish-held Efrin and set up a Reconciliation Center HQ. According to Thierry Meyssan, The U.S., Russia and Iran "have agreed to prevent any confrontation between the Turks and the Kurds." We'll have to see how that plays out, and what will follow from a "Trump win" in Raqqa.

NYC cops who stalked, harassed and beat innocent postal worker cleared of all charges

Karim Baker
Karim Baker took selfies after the incident to show the damage left by these officers
A dangerous precedent has been set in New York this week after two NYPD officers who stalked and beat an innocent postal worker — to the point of hospitalization, leaving him disabled — were let off with zero consequences.

Angelo Pampena, 32, and Robert Carbone, 30, faced up to seven years in prison on charges that they violently assaulted postal worker Karim Baker on Oct. 21, 2015. On Thursday, Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise cleared both of these cops — in spite of the overwhelming evidence against them — including video. Both of their cases were sealed and dismissed.

Baker had done nothing wrong and was being actively stalked by multiple NYPD cops for simply giving a man, who he did not know, directions.

On Dec. 20, 2014, a deranged lunatic would ask Baker for directions to the Marcy Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Baker did not know this lunatic and had no idea of his intentions. However, he was seen on video giving him those directions. That demented madman was Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who went on to murder two NYPD cops in cold blood — Officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32 — before killing himself.

For the next ten months, NYPD officers allegedly set out to make Baker's life a living hell after they found out he gave Brinsley those directions. Baker was stopped around 20 times by NYPD cops, before the final stop, in which they nearly killed him.

"I was being harassed, like cops outside by door and my family members' doors, friends' doors, just everybody. I felt just some type of way," Baker said last year of the stalking.

"Mr. Baker began to be systematically harassed. He was pulled over by the police for various minor traffic infractions approximately 20 times in the span of nine months," said Eric Subin, Baker's attorney.

This final stop was caught on video.
