The West's hypocrisy towards Gaza's breakout is stomach-turning

There will be little sympathy in the West as, yet again, besieged Palestinians are bombed by Israel, the immense suffering justified by the term 'Israeli retaliation'...

The current outpouring of sympathy for Israel should make anyone with half a heart retch.

Not because it is not awful that Israeli civilians are dying and suffering in such large numbers. But because Palestinian civilians in Gaza have faced repeated rampages from Israel decade-after-decade, producing far more suffering, but have never elicited a fraction of the concern currently being expressed by western politicians or publics.

The West's hypocrisy over Palestinian fighters killing and wounding hundreds of Israelis and holding dozens more hostage in communities surrounding and inside besieged Gaza is stark indeed.

This is the first time Palestinians, caged in the coastal enclave, have managed to inflict a significant strike against Israel vaguely comparable to the savagery Palestinians in Gaza have faced repeatedly since they were entombed in a cage more than 15 years ago, when Israel began its blockade by land, sea and air in 2007.

Western media are calling the jailbreak and attack by Palestinians from Gaza "unprecedented" - and the most dismal intelligence failing by Israel since it was caught off-guard during the Yom Kippur War exactly 50 years ago.

Comment: The Israeli intel determination is questionable to say the least. Perception management via boldface lies is Israel's trademark. And...the Mossad would never miss the lead-up to this war.

Comment: Perhaps Netanyahu was returned to office precisely to set up and execute this operation with Hamas as his tool.

Smoking

Today they came for the smokers; tomorrow it will be the coffee drinkers

The Prime Minister has shown us his limited originality by adopting Jacinda Arden's policy of phasing out smoking. The arguments for this policy are poor. The argument is, in short, that smoking causes health problems, and that it costs the NHS and hence the government and hence the taxpayer a lot of money. There is some truth to the first part: but the second part is nonsense. The taxes on tobacco are colossal: and it is quite possible that the expectant lives of the Methuselahs untroubled by sudden death in their fifties, sixties and seventies, and who survive into their nineties and hundreds, will cost the NHS much more.

But the subject of tobacco cannot be understood unless we relate it to coffee, to alcohol, to technology, and to politics. And my particular point is about coffee, since I would like to predict that at some point in the future our rulers will announce that we should no longer drink coffee. It will be banned, or phased out. Everyone will pretend they did not drink it. Netflix will show nostalgic and accusatory programmes in which almost everyone in the past is depicted as chain-drinking coffee. In some countries coffee cups in old films will be blurred out by the censor. Sterling Hayden told Joan Crawford in Johnny Guitar that a man only needs "a cup of coffee and a smoke". Modern film critics will wonder how such a line was passed by the censor.

An Egyptian citizen was also killed in the incident in Alexandria, reports say...

Two Israeli tourists and an Egyptian citizen were killed on Sunday when an Egyptian police officer opened fire in the Mansheya area of the city of Alexandria in Egypt, according to RT Arabic, citing an official from the country's security service.

A security source told RT Arabic:
"Two members of an Israeli tourist group were killed, one Egyptian, and another was injured. The police officer was immediately arrested and legal measures are being taken against him. The injured person was transferred to hospital for treatment."
The police officer believed to be responsible for the shooting is understood to have used his personal firearm in the attack, which took place close to the popular tourist attraction Pompey's Pillar.

It was also reported that the victims were part of an Israeli sightseeing group. Footage circulating on social media appears to show at least three ambulances at the scene, with onlookers viewing developments from behind police barriers.

They're repeating the word 'unprovoked' again, this time in defense of Israel

illusory truth effect
We're seeing the western political/media class bleating the word "unprovoked" in unison again, this time in reference to the massive multi-pronged operation launched by Hamas against Israel on Saturday morning which reportedly killed hundreds of Israelis.

"The United States unequivocally condemns the unprovoked attacks by Hamas terrorists against Israeli civilians," reads a statement from the White House.

"The loss of life in Israel as a result of the violent, calculated and unprovoked attack by Hamas is heartbreaking," reads a statement by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

"The unprovoked terror attack today and the murders of innocent Israeli citizens are a stark reminder of the brutality of Hamas and Iran-backed extremists," reads a statement by congressman and house speaker contender Jim Jordan.

"This ignominious, unprovoked, and barbaric attack on Israel must be met with world condemnation and unequivocal support for the Jewish state's right to self-defense," tweeted presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr.

I survived Mao. Hillary Clinton's call for 'deprogramming' of Trump supporters is no joke, it's alarming

hillary clinton
In a recent CNN interview, former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called for "formal deprogramming" of what she terms as the "MAGA cult." Formal? Did she mean government-sponsored deprogramming?

This is not the first time the left is calling for deprogramming of the right.

In 2021, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., proposed using taxpayer funds to deprogram white supremacists, a code name for conservatives and MAGA Republicans.

The list of others calling for deprogramming also includes Katie Couric, former CBS News and NBC "Today" host, who told Bill Maher in 2021: "And the question is, how are we going to really almost deprogram these people who have signed up for the cult of Trump."

Why such a call for deprogramming?

After the thorough demonization of Donald Trump, the left has been totally dismayed that his supporters still stand behind him with unwavering conviction.

Women-only homeless shelter agrees to take in trans people who self-identify

woman's shelter
A women-only homeless shelter will allow biological males who identify as female into its single-sex facility.

For the first time this winter, Glass Door will provide a women-only shelter in recognition of the "growing numbers of homeless women" in London, it said.

The charity held its annual Sleep Out fundraiser in Duke of York Square in Chelsea on Friday and it hoped to raise £175,000 to finance its winter shelters.

But it has now emerged the shelter would be open to transgender women.

When asked by The Telegraph if trans women would be admitted, a Glass Door spokesman said: "In line with our Gender, Equality and Diversity policy any guest who identifies as a woman will be treated in line with their gender identity and will be eligible for a space in our women-only shelter dependent on availability."

Women's campaigners have lambasted the "cruel" decision and demanded it be reversed.

'We are completely shocked by the damage': What are ordinary people in Gaza saying about Israel's retaliation?

A local resident says no street has been left undamaged as Israeli strikes continue...

Since the beginning of its 'Iron Swords' operation on Saturday, Israel has destroyed or damaged more than 400 sites in Gaza. Over 300 Palestinians have been killed, many of whom were civilians. At least 1,990 have been wounded.

Sanaa Kamal, a resident of Gaza who also works as a local reporter, has seen and covered a number of confrontations between Israel and the Palestinian military factions. But she claims she has never seen destruction greater than that inflicted by Israel on Sunday, following the infiltration of Israel's southern communities by dozens of Hamas militants.

So far, according to official data, more than 500 have been murdered at the hands of Palestinian militants. Over 1,900 others have been wounded, and 100 are reportedly being held by Hamas, a group considered terrorists by Israel, inside Gaza.
"We are completely shocked by the damage Israel has caused. There is literally no street in Gaza that has remained intact. Every street and every corner has been destroyed or damaged. Some of them had just been reconstructed and now they have turned into ruins again."
Since Saturday, Israel has struck more than 400 targets it says are 'linked' to Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. This is not unusual in itself. This time, however, jets have also been targeting the houses of top Hamas commanders and political leaders, sending a message to the group that their whereabouts are well known. Parallel to that, the IDF have also been bombing the exclave's infrastructure, including mosques, residential buildings, roads, banks and hospitals.

Comment: While important questions remain unanswered, this part is mutually clear: Inflict maximum terror and damage.

Public demand for electric cars falls sharply by 14% as fewer than one in 10 private buyers of new cars opt for EVs, figures show

Electric car sales have hit a bump in the road after demand from private motorists fell sharply last month, figures show.

The 14.3 per cent decline compared with September last year meant that fewer than one in ten private buyers of new cars opted for a battery-powered vehicle.

It is the latest setback in the push to achieve 'net zero' carbon emissions by 2050.

Rishi Sunak last month pushed back a ban on sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles from 2030 to 2035 - a victory for the Daily Mail's 'Rethink the 2030 Petrol Car Ban' campaign.

The announcement is thought to have come too late in the month to affect September's data, however.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which compiled the figures, said the data showed electric car purchases needed to be subsidised as they are in other countries, including France, Germany, Australia and the US.

'Unlike in the other major markets working towards a 2035 end of sale date, UK private motorists have no purchase incentive to encourage them to invest in electric mobility,' the SMMT said.

Joe Rogan: California schools were trying to 'indoctrinate' my 5-year-old into being 'an activist'

Podcast legend Joe Rogan revealed this week some of the woke indoctrination that his children faced while they were going to school in California.

Rogan, who made the remarks on "The Joe Rogan Experience," said that the schools where he lives now in Texas are good — a contrast to the "problematic" schools in California.

Rogan said that the California school that he took his children to hired someone that came in and taught them "that they have to be anti-racist and it's not good enough not to be racist."

"I'm like, my kids aren't racist at all, like, what are you doing?" he asked. "Like, why are you putting that in their head? That they have to be anti-racist and call out racism? They were trying to make kids activists, and like I'm like hey, they're five. They don't even care, they want friends. They don't give a f*** what their friends look like. They're trying to have a good time. They're five, they're just playing."
