British steel industry 'a whisker away' from collapse with 35,000 jobs at risk

British unions have warned that the UK steel industry, which supports around 35,000 jobs, is "a whisker away" from collapse as the country grapples with its biggest strike wave in decades amid global energy crisis.

The warning was made in a letter on Sunday to the British government from Unite, Community and GMB unions, which accused Business Secretary Grant Shapps of taking "little meaningful action" to aid the sector amid spiraling energy costs.

Unite's assistant general secretary Steve Turner wrote that the government's inaction leaves the sector "at breaking point" and "a whisker away from collapse."

Right-wing and far-right parties organized the rally, accusing leftist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez of doing deals with coup leaders and terrorists. Spain is due for local, regional and national elections this year.

Tens of thousands of people packed into central Madrid on Saturday against the left-wing government of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

The protest, called by dozens of right-leaning civil society groups and backed by the center-right Popular Party (PP) and the far-right Vox party, came in a key election year for Spain.

The central government said around 30,000 people gathered at Madrid's Cibeles Square, while organizers said some 700,000 people attended.


Comment: Previous protests by the Yellow Vests in France have proven that the media will readily parrot government figures despite overwhelming evidence showing that the number in attendance was many, many times higher. A reasonable and conservative estimate of those protesting would surpass 100,000 - which is a huge number, and it's likely the reason why the government does not want the true number to be known.

Elon Musk took to Twitter late Friday evening to share his personal experience with the second COVID booster shot, explaining he ran into "major side effects."

In a series of tweets, the Twitter CEO said he felt like he "was dying" and that a cousin of his in "peak health" suffered myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart which is listed as a possible side effect of some coronavirus vaccines.

"I had major side effects from my second booster shot. Felt like I was dying for several days. Hopefully, no permanent damage, but I dunno," Musk said in a tweet.

He added: "And my cousin, who is young & in peak health, had a serious case of myocarditis. Had to go to the hospital."

Comment: Another to come around is Scott Adams, who was vociferous in his support of the vax, because of his personal health issues. His characterization of "winning" and "losing" though, misses the point. No one "won" except Big Pharma.

Joerg Arnu says U.S. agents 'dragged' him out of his house with no explanation

The home of an Area 51 website owner was violently raided by more than a dozen armed FBI agents in November, and since then, Joerg Arnu has received minimal explanation for the bombardment that caused $25,000 in damages to his property.

Area 51 expert Joerg Arnu explained on Tucker Carlson Tonight that the search was related to images he posted on his website.

"I can't get ahold of anyone. Three doors were kicked in. A country gate was busted. My girlfriend was dragged out of the house in Las Vegas. I was dragged out of the house in Rachel. And nobody can give us any answers," Arnu explained Friday.

Arnu has pleaded for an explanation from the U.S. Justice Department for months, but has largely remained in the dark.

The gunman who opened fire at a ballroom dance studio in Monterey Park on Saturday night, killing 10 people and injuring 10 others, remained on the loose Sunday morning, authorities said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said a "very preliminary description" was that the suspect is an Asian man, but he did not provide further details.

"We are utilizing every resource to apprehend this suspect in what we believe to be one of the county's most heinous cases," Luna said.

The shooting occurred on Lunar New Year's Eve about seven miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Luna said it was too early to tell whether the festival was in any way connected to the shooting.

A law enforcement source briefed on the matter said the gunman used a high-powered assault rifle at close range.

Fired workers sue New York City, seek $250 million and end to COVID vaccine mandate

New York City public-sector workers who lost their jobs for refusing to comply with the city's COVID-19 vaccine mandate on Thursday filed a $250 million lawsuit against the city and Mayor Eric Adams seeking to end the mandate. The 72 fired workers are demanding the city overturn the mandate, reinstate their jobs and compensate them with punitive damages.

The workers argue the mandate should be found "arbitrary and capricious" given that "President Joe Biden, Governor Kathy Hochul and Senator Chuck Schumer have all declared that the pandemic is over," and that it was already rescinded for private sector employees and students, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed in the Bronx County Supreme Court of the State of New York, also alleges the plaintiffs were discriminated against with "willful or wanton negligence, or recklessness" and were mocked and ridiculed by their colleagues.

Many of the plaintiffs — formerly with the New York Police Department (NYPD), the New York Fire Department, the Department of Education, the Department of Health and other agencies — worked for the city for more than 20 years but now are unemployed, have lost their homes and their ability to support their families, the lawsuit states.

Comment: Should the plaintiffs succeed, it may open a floodgate of lawsuits all over the country - tying up the courts for years.

Teacher warned the boy had said he wanted to light a teacher's body on fire and then watch her die

Officials at the elementary school in Newport News, Virginia, where a first-grade teacher was shot by her six-year-old student apparently downplayed previous complaints issued by the teacher about the boy, the Washington Post said Saturday.

Abigail Zwerner, 25, reportedly raised concerns and requested help from school officials relating to the boy's behavior, which apparently included a threat to light a teacher on fire and watch her die.

The issue was dismissed, according to messages from fellow teachers obtained by The Post.

EU citizens who do not want to unknowingly eat insects should be particularly careful: The EU Commission has already approved four types of insects in different forms as "edible insects".

The most recent approval was on January 5: From now on, after mealworms, grasshoppers and crickets, the grain mold beetle can also be used as an ingredient in foods such as bread, soups, pasta, snacks, peanut butter and chocolate products.

The mealworm received the first approval for a so-called "edible insect" in June 2021: The EU Commission's Implementing Regulation 2021/822 approved the placing on the market of dried larvae of Tenebrio molitor (meal beetle) as a "novel food".

The SAS EAP Group from France has submitted the application and is allowed to market the mealworm in the Union. It may be sold individually or with a maximum content of 10 grams in protein products, cookies, dishes made from legumes and pasta products.

On the first day of April, 17-year-old Wassim Hamam* disappeared near the bustling centre of Hove. He was never seen again. Days later another teenager, Burim Markaj, 16, vanished nearby. Within hours, a 15-year-old was also reported missing.

The disappearances continued. Four days later Alban Berisha, a 17-year-old whose portrait suggests a pensive, wary character, suddenly vanished from the streets of the Sussex coastal city. The same day, a 5ft 5in 17-year-old, Khalid Muha, was last seen wearing a black bomber jacket and white trainers.

Another child went, then another. Detectives investigating the disappearances quickly identified two facts linking the lengthening caseload: all were unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. And all disappeared after staying at the same hotel. But this was no ordinary seaside hotel. The children were staying in a residence run by the Home Office, the government department whose mandate is keeping people safe.

Comment: The Home Office reaction to this horror is to be expected. British politics has been riddled with pedophiles for decades. Rooting them out will be a monumental task.

US federal agencies' influence over the platform was growing as the 2020 election drew nearer, the investigative reporter has told RT.

During his examination of the Twitter Files, investigative reporter Matt Taibbi discovered a pattern of increasing government control over the social media platform, he told RT's John Kiriakou on Saturday's episode of 'The Whistleblowers'.

Since purchasing Twitter for $44 billion in October, Elon Musk has released batches of documents shedding light on the platform's previously opaque censorship policies, enlisting independent journalists to break each document dump. Independent journalist Matt Taibbi was the first chosen, publishing communications that revealed a company-wide effort to suppress reporting on Hunter Biden's laptop - the contents of which implicated the Biden family in numerous foreign corruption schemes.
