Presidential hopeful wants Finland out of EU's 'unjust politics' and to tighten immigration rules

Finland will leave the European Union and position itself as the Switzerland of the north to protect its independence if Laura Huhtasaari, the presidential candidate of the eurosceptic Finns Party has her way.

She also told Reuters in an interview she wants to tighten immigration rules.

Huhtasaari -- dubbed "Finland's Marine Le Pen" after France's National Front leader -- is a long-shot. But she believes she has a real chance in the January election as her party has taken a fresh start following its removal from the coalition government in June.

"The rise in Europe of parties that are critical towards the EU and immigration is due to bad, unjust politics," she said. "The role for Finland in the euro zone is the role of a loser and payer...

Sweden considers raising retirement age as immigration driven population growth strains welfare resources

Six out of Sweden's eight parliamentary parties are now in agreement that the national age of retirement is to be raised from 61 to 64 years. This comes against the backdrop of a recent report from the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKL).

The report notes that due to Sweden's enormous population growth, there are insufficient revenues to meet the demand for welfare.

"Beginning 2018 we expect that the need for welfare will grow considerably more rapidly than tax revenues," SKL chief economist Annika Wallenskog said, according to Swedish financial paper Dina Pengar.

The paper goes on to report that the high population growth is due to the massive influx of migrants last year, as well as a historically high fertility rate. These factors are putting considerable pressure on the local authorities and regions.

One of Canada's richest men and his wife were found dead together at their residence, with the circumstances of their demise leading the authorities to suspect foul play.

Bernard "Barry" Charles Sherman, Canadian billionaire and Chairman and CEO of Apotex Inc - Canada's largest manufacturer of generic drugs - was found dead alongside his wife Honey at their mansion in Toronto on Friday, December 15.

The bodies of Barry and Honey Sherman were apparently found in the basement of their house after the police arrived there in response to a medical call, according to media reports.

New Witchita, KS ordinance will fine people who help panhandlers $500

panhandler with cop
Wichita used to be known as "Cowtown" because of its cattle trade but now if people stop and give something as small as a cheeseburger to a homeless person they run the risk going to jail and paying a $500 fine. The ordinance was recently approved by the city council and now complicates matters for both panhandlers and philanthropic citizens alike.

Beat downs and arrests by police are, unfortunately, becoming a larger and larger part of the homeless culture. Not only do police regularly harass the homeless but TFTP has reported on incidents in which officers have confiscated blankets and tents from homeless people in the middle of the winter.

Whether the dehumanization is to make way for the up and coming comic book festival or just a run of the mill sadistic police gang murder, homeless folks in the US are finding themselves in an increasingly hostile police state.

Cops in Saginaw, Michigan, who shot and killed homeless Saginaw resident Milton Hall, in firing squad fashion, during a confrontation in a shopping plaza parking lot were told that they wouldn't face any charges. Who cares about one dead homeless guy, right?

Several top-tier universities host student clubs, workshops dedicated to kinky sex

Princeton University has become the latest Ivy League institution to host a club for students who seek to explore sexual desires that delve into bondage, domination, sadism and masochism, underscoring a larger trend found at many top-tier universities.

The student-led club, Princeton Plays, launched earlier this month after Princeton's student government voted to officially recognize it. It joins Harvard's "Munch," Columbia's "Conversio Virium" and Cornell's "Crunch" clubs as active student BDSM groups in the Ivy League.

Comment: Nice to see that sick and twisted sex practices are being indoctrinated into young future leaders of our society. Under the banner of 'liberal open-mindedness', and postmodern relative morality, it's considered desirable to have an 'anything goes' attitude, accept all, no matter how deranged it may be. Anything less is considered prudish, if not 'phobic'. There's a growing mainstream appetite for things that would previously be considered "deviant" pursuits, but is anyone asking how this affects the psychology of those naive enough to delve into them?

Researchers say Facebook is really bad for you

facebook evil eye
Apparently, Chamath Palihapitiya was on to something when he revealed earlier this week that he felt "tremendous guilt" for the role that he played in Facebook's success as a social-media company.

To wit, Facebook's director of research David Ginsberg and research scientist Moira Burke published a blog post this week explaining that, in some instances, the social network can have a deleterious impact on an individual's overall mood and health.
"University of Michigan students randomly assigned to read Facebook for 10 minutes were in a worse mood at the end of the day than students assigned to post or talk to friends on Facebook," the blog post said. "A study from UC San Diego and Yale found that people who clicked on about four times as many links as the average person, or who liked twice as many posts, reported worse mental health than average in a survey."

70 percent increase in homeless deaths on Portland streets in 2016

Eighty homeless people have died on the streets in the Portland last year, adding to more than 350 people who have disappeared while homeless in the past six years.

The number marks a 70 percent increase in homeless deaths in Multnomah County, home to Portland, local authorities said Thursday.

This is since officials first began tracking the homeless in 2011 and is in line with similar significant increase in homeless deaths in other large West Coast cities where the homelessness has surged.

The annual report is used as a barometer to track the city's progress addressing a crisis that has also overwhelmed cities from Seattle to San Diego.

PBS cancels "Tavis Smiley" show as sex warlock-hunt expands

Tavis Smiley
The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) announced Wednesday it was halting distribution of the late-night interview program "Tavis Smiley" following allegations of sexual misconduct on the part of its producer and star of the same name.

As has become typical in the expanding witch-hunt over alleged sexual offenses by prominent men in politics, the media and the entertainment industry, the public broadcaster did not name the accusers or provide any details of their allegations. Smiley himself has not been given this information, nor afforded an opportunity to confront his accusers and dispute their charges.
