Anarchist mob smashes property in Hamilton, Ontario

Hamilton police spent most of Saturday evening on Locke Street investigating damage caused by a group of about 30 individuals, dressed in black clothing with their faces covered, who walked down the street carrying a banner that said, "We Are The Ungovernables."

The group began setting off fireworks and smoke bombs, damaging vehicles and throwing eggs and rocks at store windows and homes in the neighbourhood.

Several storefronts had their windows smashed by the mob, and police say early estimates indicate about $100,000 in damage.

There were no injuries suffered by citizens or officers.

Insp. Paul Hamilton said police were initially called to a "mischief in progress" at Durand Park on Park Street South just before 10 p.m.

Two cops headed to the scene, where they found a large group dressed in black — a number of whom were wearing masks, he said.

"The officers approached the group and quickly had to retreat because they were being pelted with rocks," Hamilton said.

While the officers called for backup, the group dispersed, but a "large nucleus" of the group continued on, heading west toward Locke St. South and Aberdeen Ave., he said.

Carmela Oliverio was sitting with friends inside the Mattson and Co. restaurant on the corner of Locke and Alexander streets when she saw fireworks going off.

"All of a sudden I see 25 to 30 people dressed like ninjas coming down the street with this huge banner saying, 'We Are the Ungovernables' and with fireworks going off left, right and centre."

Comment: Interesting development, in that mindless Anarchist and Antifa-inspired mob violence usually comes in protest as a response to some kind of specific state-sponsored event or the hosting of some controversial speaker.

This time the black-clad, face-covered mob of over 30 abject cowards took to the streets of Hamilton to willfully damage private property without apparent cause or legitimate grievance.

Could this be a sign that we will be seeing more of this needless random violence in the future from these radical resentful pathetic excuses for human beings?

Time will tell.

#Metoo backlash: Should we hire women?

This article is my view on the current #metoo movement, the situation that arises out of this and to a degree a social commentary. To assure you get my viewpoint and also to make sure nobody just smears this, I would like to make certain points clear.

Yes, I'm a white male, in my mid-30s. I have a loving relationship with my wife for over a decade. I am happy that my wife can work and I would never want to have this any other way - we have a lot of fun together in our respected fields.

Fake news flops: CNN's February ratings down 19 percent

cnn hosts
CNN loves to host entire hours devoted to a "WHITE HOUSE IN CRISIS" and touting their latest poll on Trump's unpopularity. On Thursday, they pushed out Anthony Scaramucci insisting "MORALE IS AT AN ALL-TIME LOW." But maybe CNN should wonder if the screen ought to read "CNN IN CRISIS?" Where is their morale when they look at the ratings? Mark Joyella at Forbes reports on the latest monthly ratings:
CNN had significant declines in February, with ratings dropping 19% in total day and 16% in prime, where the network returned an average audience of 979,000 total viewers -- behind MSNBC (1.805 million) and Fox News (2.766 million).

MSNBC has now beaten CNN in prime for 12 consecutive months among viewers 25-54 and 15 consecutive months among all viewers.

Comment: Fake news providers appear to be struggling to retain their base, this could be because an increasing number of customers are becoming aware of their outrageously distorted reporting. And were it not for a concerted effort to suppress real news outlets - like RT - those stats could be even lower:

The life expectancy of the poorest girls in England has fallen for the first time on record since the 1920s, new figures show, in what charities and opposition politicians described as an "appalling" consequence of underfunding in health and social care.

Despite a gradual increase in the predicted lifespan of the population over the past century, data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows deprived females born between 2014 and 2016 were expected to die younger than those born between 2011 and 2013.

The gap in life expectancy between the poorest and most advantaged females in England has meanwhile reached a record high, now standing at seven years and five months - a rise of five months between the two most recent periods observed.

Comment: Meanwhile the age at which people can claim their pension has risen!
The State Pension ages have been undergoing radical changes since April 2010. The changes will see the State pension age rise to 65 for women between 2010 and 2018, and then to 66, 67 and 68 for both men and women.

Flashback This graph shows how morally outraged tweets stay within their political bubble

tweet bubble graph
© William Brady et alRed twitter and blue twitter don’t interact much.
Thousands of people around the world have excitedly made a forceful political point with a well-honed and witty tweet. All it takes is 140 characters to make a pithy argument, and man it feels good to get a few retweets.

But, regardless of how persuasive or amusing your tweets are, chances are they're unlikely to be well-received by anyone who doesn't agree with you already. A study of more than half a million tweets, recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows that morally outraged tweets tend to be widely retweeted within their political spheres - but rarely escape their bubbles.

The researchers, led by psychologist William Brady at New York University, started by analyzing the language used in 563,312 tweets about three controversial topics: Gun control, same-sex marriage, and climate change. They sorted the tweets according to their use of moral language (e.g. the word "duty"), emotional language (e.g. "fear") and language that's both moral and emotional (e.g. "hate"). Tweets that were strictly moral or purely emotional didn't have higher numbers of retweets, but the researchers found a 20% increase in retweets per moral-emotional word added.

Looters use diggers to break into Dublin supermarkets as unprecedented blizzard paralyzes Ireland (VIDEOS)

Tallaght Dublin Lidl looting digger storm Emma
The looted Lidl in Tallaght: A photo of a digger at the scene
  • Gardaí investigating as 'looters raid Lidl supermarket' in west Dublin during Storm Emma
  • 50 gardai involved in operations
  • Gardai using six-wheel drive military vehicle to patrol area
  • Weather conditions mean some approach roads were virtually impassable
  • Three patrols from armed support unit and four traffic jeeps sent to scene
  • Gardaí also investigating reports on JCB being used by looters 'to smash their way into supermarket'
  • Also investigating reports of safe being 'smashed open by digger' at the scene
  • Nine people arrested at the scene

Comment: Such a blizzard has not happened in Ireland for at least four decades. That in itself is remarkable, but people reacting in this way makes the event even stranger. Were these people in desperate need of goods they couldn't have any access to due to weather conditions? Or was this a 'gang' as described in the article that reacted to the weather in a particularly destructive way? Are we going to see more incidents like this in the context of natural catastrophes?

Outrage: Man buys homeless man food at McDonald's, both get kicked out (VIDEO)

© Yossi Gallo FacebookAn outraged customer recorded a police officer telling a homeless man to leave McDonald's after paying for his food, inciting outrage on social media.
A Facebook video showing a homeless man being escorted off the premises of a Myrtle Beach, S.C., McDonald's after a customer reportedly paid for his food has gone viral, and is sparking outrage.

Yossi Gallo, the man responsible for the video, said he saw a homeless man across the street and invited him into the fast-food restaurant with him.

"I waved him down, and I said, 'Hey, are you hungry?' and he said, 'Yes,'" Gallo said in an interview with WMBF News. "So I went in there with him, and as soon as we went inside, the lady at the register says, 'You're not getting food.' She tells him he's not getting food."

Comment: Is it something in the food? It seems McDonald's is often the site of incidents involving a complete lack of empathy.

Report: Deputies told to form perimeter at Florida school shooting instead of rushing in

Parkland school shooting Florida
Parkland, Fla.- A sheriff's office captain told deputies to form a perimeter instead of rushing into the Florida high school where 17 people were killed in a mass shooting, according to documents obtained by the Miami Herald.

The newspaper reported late Thursday that it had obtained a partial Broward Sheriff's Office dispatch log, which showed that Capt. Jan Jordan gave the order for deputies to establish a perimeter.

An earlier report on the call logs published by Fox News showed that the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School would have been over by the time Jordan gave her order.

However, the log may raise fresh questions about the department's handling of the mass shooting on Feb. 14, including whether police could have gone in sooner to help the wounded.

Initiatives to helps homeless people shelter from the cold include this igloo from a Bordeaux inventor
New initiatives to help homeless people shelter from the cold have emerged - including a pop-up "igloo" by a Bordeaux inventor - as the country continues to shiver in sub-zero temperatures.

Various alternative options to help those on the streets have been explored across the country, reports news source 20 Minutes.

These include a pop-up polyethylene and aluminium "igloo", created by Bordeaux inventor Geoffroy de Reynal, which allows inhabitants to warm up by 15°C once inside; and an old refrigerator van in Nantes, which has been transformed into a "dormitory on wheels" with several bunk beds open to those in need.

Conspiracy revealed! Deviant, underhanded Russians hid secret flags under their Olympic scarves

Evgenia Medvedeva
© Sputnik/ Vladimir PesnyaEvgenia Medvedeva, Russian figure-skater
Following multiple doping scandals and bans, an underhanded Russian Olympic team performed under a neutral banner at the latest Winter Games, but here and there, some tricks were implemented.

Figure skating star Evgenia Medvedeva posted a video of herself during the flight back from Korea to Moscow, where she removes the white scarf covering the uniform jacket to reveal a Russian flag that was underneath all along.

"Now everybody knows the secret of these white scarves," says the 18-year-old silver medalist. "It's a feeling I can't describe," she adds.

It wasn't the only attempt to crack the system at least a little bit in South Korea: when Medvedeva graced the podium together with team-mate Alina Zagitova, fans managed to slip some Russian flags in the shot, and after the win over Germany in the ice hockey final, the players along with the fans made sure the national anthem was heard in the arena.

Comment: Make them return all their medals! How DARE they break the rules we made up arbitrarily to isolate them from the world! Have these Russians no morals?
