Gaza: Palestinian farmer shot dead by IDF

A farmer has been shot dead by Israeli troops while working on his land in Gaza strip, Palestinian health officials said. According to Israelis, however, the "suspect" approached a "restricted zone" and fled after being shot at.

The incident took place on Saturday near the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel. According to Palestinian health officials, a 59-year-old farmer was shot in the back by the Israeli Defiance Forces (IDF) while he was working on his land near the border fence. The man was gravely wounded and died hours after the shooting.

The IDF, however, has spun another story, stating that the troops identified a "suspect" approaching a restricted area near the border in the southern Gaza Strip. The servicemen then fired "warning shots into the air, and when the suspect failed to halt, they fired shots towards him," an IDF spokeswoman said as quoted by Reuters. The "suspect" fled the area afterward, she added.

The incident comes only a week after IDF soldiers attacked a "suspicious" Palestinian fishing boat that breached the boundaries of a designated fishing zone. That shooting resulted in the death of one fisherman, while two others were detained for questioning.

Civilians in Syria's Eastern Ghouta are being severely punished by militants in public if they break a curfew, which was introduced to prevent them from escaping the embattled area, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.

Militants controlling the Damascus suburb have shelled a medical aid point and continuously open fire at a checkpoint in the area, Major General Vladimir Zolotukhin, a spokesman for the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, told reporters on Sunday.

"At 12:50 [10:50 GMT] the militants from western suburbs of the Er-Rikhan settlement shelled a medical aid point. Six mortar shells exploded at a distance of 200-400 meters in the west," Zolotukhin said. He added that no one was injured in the attacks, unlike yesterday's assault at the humanitarian corridor, which left three civilians wounded.

Apart from constantly attacking the corridor, militants have also introduced a curfew to coincide with the daily five-hour humanitarian pauses to prevent civilians from fleeing. They have also prohibited people from holding any public gatherings, according to the official.

Israeli border officer throws stun grenades at West Bank school, couple & baby (VIDEO)

Footage has emerged that appears to show an Israeli officer throwing a stun grenade at a couple and their baby in the West Bank. The incident reportedly occurred as they were fleeing to their home amid a violent protest.

The video, taken by an activist for the Israeli human rights group Yesh Din, shows the family of three fleeing to their home in the village of Burin, as the father carries their infant. Four Israeli officers are walking behind the family, and one can be seen throwing what appears to be a stun grenade, despite the couple not appearing to pose any threat. The two parents become startled after realizing what has happened, and begin to pick up their pace.

The incident occurred on Friday, amid protests which were sparked in the area after Israelis from nearby settlements attempted to enter the village, according to Palestinians cited by Haaretz. Israeli security forces also said a violent demonstration was taking place nearby.

However, border police say the video shows a "partial and edited" portrayal of the events, and that dozens of protesters were throwing rocks at officers near and around the family's house.

Kim Dotcom has called on Twitter to stop 'censoring' tweets, saying he'll create an alternative to the social network if it continues. Dotcom told RT he believes Twitter is targeting tweets about late DNC staffer Seth Rich.

Tweeting early Saturday, the Megaupload founder urged Twitter's Jack Dorsey to "stop messing with our free speech" and warning that if Dotcom creates an alternative platform, "Twitter could be toast within a year".

Lost the plot: Planned Parenthood 'some men have a uterus' tweet slammed by people with common sense

Nationwide birth control charity Planned Parenthood sailed into a perfect Tweetstorm when its Indiana and Kentucky branch declared "some men have a uterus." The tweet drew ridicule from plenty of conservatives online.

Friday's pinned post on the group's Twitter account was apparently a politically-correct nod to trans men, those who are biologically female but identify as male. The statement, as is customary of today's Twitter arguments, was repeated line after line until symbols ran out - 11 times, to be precise.

Comment: To give some context into who these people are, here's a little bit of the history of Planned Parenthood:
Planned Parenthood was a product of the Eugenics movement. The abortion provider's founder, Margaret Sanger, was among the most prominent eugenicists of the early 20th century, penning popular articles with titles like "The Eugenic Value of Birth Control Propaganda" which argued that this "new weapon of civilization and freedom" could solve "race problems" and result in "racial regeneration."

Comment: As radical left organizations like Planned Parenthood continue to divorce themselves from reality with moves like this, they shouldn't be surprised to lose more of their funding and supportive elected officials in the not too distant future. 'Netanyahu is a disaster': Protesters demand his resignation

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Tel Aviv Saturday, to demand Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's resignation. The Israeli leader is being investigated in at least four different corruption cases.

Demonstrators gathered in Tel Aviv for the latest in a series of weekly protests calling for Netanyahu to step down. The prime minister is embroiled in a series of corruption probes and last month police recommend he be indicted for bribery in two investigations.

Some demonstrators wore clown noses and carried signs showing images of Netanyahu in similar fancy dress. Other signs read, "Crime Minister," "Crooks go home!" and "From right to left Netanyahu is a disaster."

"I come from very far every week in order to protest because I am very worried about the situation in the country. I come with my children," protester Irit Hareal told Ruptly. "We want them to grow up in a country with values, where the corruption doesn't exist and where not all government members are corrupted and put on trial. This is very important for me. I was born here. I want all my children to live here, and this is why I come every week."

Marshall Islands launches own cryptocurrency as legal tender

The Marshall Islands is creating its own digital currency in a bid to raise money. In doing so it becomes the first country in the world to recognize a cryptocurrency as legal tender.

The small Pacific Island nation passed the Sovereign Currency Act to create the 'sovereign', or SOV on Monday, following days of debate. The cryptocurrency will have equal status with the US dollar and, unlike many cryptocurrencies, users will have to reveal their identity in order to use SOV.

"This is a historic moment for our people, finally issuing and using our own currency, alongside the USD (US dollar)," President Hilda Heine said in a statement. "It is another step of manifesting our national liberty."

The Marshall Islands uses the dollar as its currency under a Compact of Free Association. It's an agreement under which the US gives the country about $70 million each year, and has a military base on one of the islands, Kwajalein Atoll. In 2023, US aid will fall by half to $30 million, "causing high risk for the country's budget stability," the Marshall Islands said.

Teetotaller wins lawsuit against NYPD for wrongful DUI charge

A non-drinker, who was wrongfully charged with driving under the influence (DUI) in what he claims was a police cover-up, has settled his lawsuit against New York City for nearly $1 million.

Oliver Wiggins, 33, was charged with impaired driving in April 2015, despite a breathalyzer test and subsequent blood tests showing no signs of alcohol in his system.

He claims a police officer crashed into his car in Brooklyn after running a stop sign and then invented a drinking and driving charge to cover up the reckless behaviour.

Three months later, prosecutors dismissed the charges against Wiggins. "It is our position that the police officers attempted to do that simply to hide the fact and cover up the fact that they operated their vehicle in a reckless manor (sic)," Wiggins' lawyer, Scott Rynecki, told CBS New York at the time, announcing plans to file a lawsuit.

1 Artillery 'Bouquet'

The Soviet-era military apparently had an affection for plant life, as many of its artillery pieces were given 'flower' names, including the 2S3 'Akatsiya' (Vachellia) and the 2S7 'Pion' (Peony) self-propelled guns, as well as the 2S4 'Tyulpan' (Tulip) heavy mortar. The towed automatic 2B9 mortar was called 'Vasilek' (Centaurea).

Question

Why did it take two weeks to recognize the professional hand behind Parkland students' astroturfing?

Parkland press conference
The response was professionalized. That’s not surprising, because this is what organization that gets results actually looks like. It’s not a bunch of magical kids in somebody’s living room.
"Can you believe these kids?" It's been a recurring theme of the coverage of the Parkland school shooting: the remarkable effectiveness of the high school students who created a gun control organization in the wake of the massacre. In seemingly no time, the magical kids had organized events ranging from a national march to a mass school walkout, and they'd brought in a million dollars in donations from Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney.

The Miami Herald credited their success to the school's stellar debate program. The Wall Street Journal said it was because they were born online, and organizing was instinctive.

On February 28, BuzzFeed came out with the actual story: Rep. Debbie Wassermann Schultz aiding in the lobbying in Tallahassee, a teacher's union organizing the buses that got the kids there, Michael Bloomberg's groups and the Women's March working on the upcoming March For Our Lives, MoveOn.org doing social media promotion and (potentially) march logistics, and training for student activists provided by federally funded Planned Parenthood.
