The New Flemish Alliance (N-VA), a right-wing party that is part of the ruling coalition in Belgium's federal government, is leading in polls in Antwerp, a bellwether city used to assess the popularity of political forces on the verge of the parliamentary election, RTL Info reported.

The party, which strongly objects to mass immigration, is leading with 38.7% of votes in the regional election in Antwerp, according to the local broadcaster.

This is the first preliminary data that was released following the estimates of the results at 95 polling stations out of 782; Belgium's 2018 provincial, municipal and district elections took place on Sunday, October 14th.

Kicking the can down the road: America will soon come face to face with a harsh economic reality

coke can
Nobody can defy the laws of economics forever. Whether it is an individual, a company or the nation as a whole, reality always catches up with everyone eventually. For years, I have been warning that Sears was eventually going to zero, but of course it didn't happen immediately. Sears CEO Eddie Lampert kept convincing investors to pour more money into his beleaguered money pit, and so the can kept getting kicked down the road. It takes a great con man to be able to pull off what Eddie Lampert was able to pull off, and we should all be in awe at the level of skill that he has displayed.

But all good cons eventually come to an end, and now the retailer that was once the largest in world history is coming to an end. According to multiple media reports, a Sears bankruptcy filing is imminent. For a while there it looked like it would be a Chapter 7 filing which would mean immediate liquidation for Sears. But it appears that Lampert will be able secure enough funding to give Sears a little bit of breathing space. A Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing will allow most of the stores to stay open through the holidays and will give Sears more time to sell off more assets.

I can't even imagine who would be dumb enough to hand Lampert more money at this point, and this is yet another example that shows that the old saying "a sucker is born every minute" is definitely true.

Some 800 anti-establishment accounts and pages have been yanked from Facebook in a sweeping crackdown the social media giant framed as a fight against spammers. RT talked to those who were targeted in the cleansing.

Among the hundreds of pages and accounts Facebook and Twitter took down were those both on the political left and right, ranging from conspiracy theorists and police brutality watchers, to news outlets with non-mainstream angles, While their content could be at times described as controversial, the bulk of the banished pages boasted large followings and outreach.

RT spoke to some of the voices silenced by the Facebook move. Here is what they had to say.

A Boeing 757 aircraft was forced to land at an angle at Bristol Airport in the UK on Friday because of extreme 40-knot crosswinds during Storm Callum.

Footage uploaded by avid plane spotter and YouTuber 'Mraviantionguy' shows the TUI Airways jet landing practically sideways to compensate for the extreme crosswinds, and avoid being blown off the runway.

Judge in Roundup trial may overturn nearly all of Bay Area man's $289 million jury award

Dewayne Johnson
© Lea Suzuki / The ChronicleDewayne Johnson (center), former groundskeeper for Benicia schools, may see considerably less than the $289 million in damages awarded by a San Francisco jury in August.
A San Francisco judge cast doubt Wednesday on a jury's $289 million damage award to a former Bay Area groundskeeper who was diagnosed with cancer after frequently spraying school grounds with a widely used weed-killer manufactured by Monsanto Co.

Superior Court Judge Suzanne Bolanos said in a tentative ruling that she would likely overturn $250 million in punitive damages because there was no convincing evidence that Monsanto had knowingly manufactured a harmful product or acted "despicably" toward the plaintiff, Dewayne "Lee" Johnson. At a two-hour hearing later Wednesday, Bolanos suggested state law may also require her to throw out $31 million that jurors awarded for Johnson's reduced life expectancy.

The company's lawyer, George Lombardi, argued that the entire verdict should be overturned because there was insufficient evidence that its herbicide, glyphosate, commonly marketed as Roundup, is dangerous or caused Johnson's cancer. Johnson's lawyer, Michael Miller, urged the judge to respect the jury's verdict.

Comment: No big surprise here. The original award was quite likely to good to be true. Monsanto is more or less untouchable in the courts, and this one lawsuit is unlikely to change that.

The snowflake culture is killing our kids

Did you know "jazz hands" are slowly replacing clapping? No, really: Clapping as been banned at a leading university in the U.K. "to avoid triggering anxiety" for students.

Lest you think this practice doesn't exist in the U.S., I can personally vouch that it does. When I spoke at Bard College in New York last year, the students there did this exact thing with their hands whenever one of their classmates would challenge me and they wanted to show their support. I couldn't figure out what was going on until about halfway through the talk when I just flat-out asked the students,"What on Earth are you all doing?" (I had kind of figured it out by then, but I wanted to hear them explain it.)

Ironically, just after reading the U.K. article I got text from a friend who said our local high school is doing away with class rank, valedictorian, and salutatorian. The message? It's just too stressful for kids to lose. They can't cope.

Elite British school Eton bans mobile phones, faces backlash from students and teachers

Eton College is facing a backlash from teachers after banning students from using mobile phones in the classroom.

Simon Henderson, headmaster at the £40,000-a-year school, wrote to parents at the start of the academic year to announce the ban, which he said would be introduced as a trial.

But the move left some of its teachers "spitting" with anger, with one senior master criticising it as "Luddite" and "Amish".

Joe Francis, an English teacher at Eton College, said the experimental ban caused some consternation among masters who see mobile phones as a useful teaching aid.

"There are some teachers who are absolutely spitting about it," Mr Francis told The Daily Telegraph. "They tend to be the more techy teachers, maths and science people who think it is a bit Luddite and anti-progress.

Comment: If there is an alternative to use a tablet with all the relevant tools, then the mobile phone ban shouldn't interfere with learning at all. However, apart from the detrimental psychological affects of mobile phones, there is one concern not addressed by the headteacher, and that's the harmful effects to the health of the children from constant exposure to EMFs, particularly 5G technology: Also check out SOTT radio's: The Health & Wellness Show: EMF Exposure Part II

Hypocritical CNN hosts upset left-wing protesters referred to as 'mob.'

CNN Lemon and Baldwin
CNN's Don Lemon and Brooke Baldwin made headlines this week with separate outbursts aimed at a guest who characterized left-wing activists as a "mob."

But the thing about their reactions is that they feel a bit ... over-the-top. Do they not remember how the press treated the Tea Party? Judging by their shocked - shocked! - reactions, you'd think both Lemon and Baldwin were out of the country between 2009 and 2012.

"Oh, you're not going to use the 'mob' word here," Baldwin said this week after guest Matt Lewis used "mob" to refer to the people who chased Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and his wife from a restaurant in the nation's capital on Sept. 24.

Comment: While it's hardly news that CNN are completely hypocritical in their language policing, it's yet more evidence of the partisan nature of manufactured outrage - it's fine to label the other team, but try to use that label on my team and I'll lose it.

The remains of 11 babies have been removed from a shuttered funeral home in Detroit after an anonymous tip led authorities to the shocking find on Friday. The bodies were stuffed in a cardboard box and trash bags.

The sickening discovery was made by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) investigators, which searched the Cantrell Funeral Home in Detroit on Friday. They found the decomposing remains in a false ceiling between the first and the second floor of the building, which had ceased functioning as a mortuary in April.

Some of the babies apparently were stillborn, Detroit police spokesman Brian Bowser told media. The remains were taken to the medical examiner's office, which will determine their cause of death and identities.
