Canadian Rachel McKinnon finished ahead of the field at the women's sprint 35-39 age bracket at the world cycling championship on Sunday. Many have praised her achievement, but some say it was cheating, since she was born male.

McKinnon is the "first" transgender woman ever to win gold at the UCI Masters Track Cycling World Championships. The event was organized by USA Cycling and took place in Los Angeles under the auspices of the International Cycling Federation (ICF).

Before the final race, McKinnon set a world record in the quarterfinals - which only stood for 10 minutes.

Comment: With so many transgender women winning female categories, one would think they'd have their own category by now. Different testosterone levels aren't the only thing which would give them an unfair advantage. See also:

Seven Palestinians killed, another 250 injured by IDF live fire during latest protests at Gaza border

Seven Palestinians were added today to the 199 killed during protests at the Gaza-Israel border throughout 29 successive weeks of the Great March of Return since the protests began March 30.

Another 250 were injured on Friday's protest by the Israeli forces' live fire, including one critically injured and five seriously wounded, the Gaza health ministry reported. Some 15,000 Palestinians were protesting at the border.

The soldiers killed five men east of Al-Bureij refugee camp. Young demonstrators were able to retrieve the bodies and they were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The sixth was killed east of Rafah in the southern enclave, while the seventh was killed in the "Malaka" area east of Gaza City. Local sources said.

Comment: The following video of the protests clearly shows that demonstrators in no position to cause any real harm to the Israeli soldiers are being shot at by sniper fire.

Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham vows to continue Jihad against Syria in first statement on Russian-Turkish deconfliction agreement

On October 14, Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra; HTS) released an official statement, in which it vowed to continue its "Jihad" [the Islamic term for holy war] against the Damascus government and refused to give up its arms or to ditch its foreign fighters.
"We will not deviate from the option of jihad and fighting as a way to achieve the goals of our blessed revolution, first and foremost to bring down the criminal regime, free the prisoners and secure the return of the displaced to their country ... Our weapons are a safety valve for the Sham revolution," HTS statement said.

Comment: It was to be expected that the terrorists, being terrorists, would not simply lay down their weapons and go home, though some of them might comply. Yet perhaps the most interesting question is what is the real game that Turkey is playing on all this. See:

A Crash Course on the true causes of "Anti-Semitism", part II: The hunt for anti-Semites

antisemitism dictionary
First, anti-Semites everywhere!

It has been over a year since I wrote an article entitled "A Crash Course on the True Causes of "Anti-Semitism ". I tried to illustrate how the kind of ideology and worldview of what ought to be called Rabbinical Phariseeism but is, alas, usually referred to as "Orthodox Judaism," results in an inevitable hostile backlash from those whom this ideology and worldview even deny the status of "human being." Today, I want to do something a little different: look at a political tactic which appears to give Jews a very desirable position but which in reality places them all at risk: the use of the accusation of "anti-Semitism" on practically anybody who dares to be critical of anybody and anything Jewish. The following recent headline on RT was what inspired me to discuss this issue:
Trump accused of anti-Semitism over claim Soros funds 'elevator screamers.'
I won't take up space here by quoting the article at length so please check it out on the original RT page. Here is just a short excerpt:

Disgusting: Idaho wildlife official who killed 'whole family of baboons' faces backlash, calls for resignation

baboons
An Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner who shared graphic images of animals he killed in Africa, including a "family of baboons," is facing calls to resign.

Blake Fischer shared photos of his guided hunting trip in Namibia in an email sent to over 100 recipients, prompting a number of former gaming commissioners to respond in disgust and with calls for his resignation.

Fischer and his wife killed at least 14 animals on the trip, including giraffe, leopard, impala, antelope, warthog and an oryx, according to the images shared in the email which was obtained by the Idaho Statesman through a public records request to the governor's office.

The photo causing the most outrage is the one showing Fischer posing with what he described as a "whole family of baboons" killed with a bow and arrow. A baby baboon is shown with blood coming out of its abdomen.

How Putin won the support of Russia's youth

They're nicknamed the "Putin Generation": Young Russian adults who have no memory of any political leader besides Vladimir Putin.

The Russian president first rose to power 18 years ago and has remained atop the Kremlin - either as president or prime minister - ever since. And many young Russians say they like it that way.
"He's done a lot for the country. There is no one like him," said a young woman relaxing at a beach in St. Petersburg. "He's the coolest."
According to a survey last year by the Levada Center - Russia's only major independent polling firm - 86 per cent of young Russian adults (between 18 and 24 years old) approve of Vladimir Putin as president, the highest approval rating among any age group.

About six out of 10 train passengers violate tobacco control laws by smoking on board, according to findings from a survey by the Tobacco Control Research and Knowledge Management Centre.

The survey was carried out among passengers on a total of 72 trains on four routes, according to Roengruedi Pathanwanit, deputy director of the centre.

These are the Bangkok-Chiang Mai, Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani, Bangkok-Nong Khai and Bangkok-Hat Yai-Surat Thani routes.

Conducted last year, the research was based on interviews with 578 passengers.

Dr Roengrudi said the study aimed to find out whether the smoking ban under the 2017 Tobacco Control Act had been well observed.

Hurricane Michael left wide swath of Florida a communications dead zone

wrecked cell tower hurricane
© Agence France-Presse/Brendan SmialowskiHurricane Michael destroyed this cellular tower in Panama City, Florida, along with much other communications infrastructure, when it roared through the region.
Since Hurricane Michael roared through on Wednesday, a wide swath of Florida's northwest coast has been without telephone or Internet service, adding to the daunting challenges facing residents, loved ones trying to reach them, and the work crews struggling to bring them relief.

"We have had some sites come back in service following the restoration of fiber links," cable operator Verizon said in a statement Friday. It has deployed five mobile cell sites with satellite connections "to assist with recovery efforts" while full service is restored.

But in Michael's devastated wake, and with tens of thousands still without electricity or electronic communications, those five sites have made only a modest dent.

A wide coastal zone between Panama City and the much smaller town of Mexico Beach, 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the southeast, remains cut off.

Saudi stock market dives in wake of Khashoggi disappearance, Trump threat

The Saudi stock market plunged after US President Donald Trump promised "severe punishment" for Riyadh if it ordered the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Two hours into trading, the index was down seven percent, which is its biggest drop since December 2014, Reuters reports. The stock market's trading hours take place between 10:00am and 3:00pm, Sunday to Thursday. AP also reported a drop, but said it was six percent.

The nosedive comes after Trump promised a harsh response to Saudi Arabia if the ultraconservative kingdom is linked to the suspected murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The president said that there is something "really terrible and disgusting" about the case. "We're going to get to the bottom of it and there will be severe punishment."

Khashoggi, who was a critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Saudi royal family, was last seen on October 2 when he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage.

Turkey alleges that the journalist was tortured, killed, and dismembered inside the consulate - a claim, that Riyadh denies.
