One person was killed and six others injured in a fiery, four-car wreck on the Brooklyn Bridge on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Three of the vehicles involved in the 7:15 a.m. crash, including a pickup truck, burst into flames on the Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge, sending plumes of black smoke into the air, FDNY officials said.

"There was a huge fire," said witness Jennifer Brown, who had been walking along the bridge at the time. "There was a lot of black smoke ... the cars were pretty engulfed."

Explaining why unburned trees next to burned down houses is not evidence of 'secret energy weapons'

Why do you sometimes see unburnt trees next to a burnt down house?
fires
Conspiracy theories would say that this is because the houses were actually vapourize with beams of energy from space. But the actual reason, as many people have pointed out, is simply that the wood in the houses is dry, and the wood in the trees is wet.

If you don't use a wood fire in your house this might be a bit hard to understand, so I set out to do an experiment to demonstrate this.

First stop was my attic, which, like most new houses in California has an internal frame of 2 by 4s.
There was a bit of scrap wood left over from construction. The same wood as the frame of my house, so ideal for testing.

Nanny State: Judge rejects family's petition to halt chemotherapy for 13yo son whose cancer is in remission

Nicholas Gundersen

A 13-year-old Long Island boy battling a rare and deadly form of leukemia stood with his parents in family court Monday, sharing another disappointment as a New York judge rejected the family's emergency petition to halt his daily chemotherapy treatments.

"I don't need chemo because I don't have any more cancer in my body," Nicholas Gundersen told reporters Monday. "It's difficult because every time I get it, I always feel sick. And I don't want to feel sick if I don't have to feel sick."

The teen's cancer is said to be in remission, but his doctors at NYU Winthrop Hospital insist the boy needs 40 more months of chemotherapy. A spokesman for NYU Winthrop said previously, "Unless chemotherapy is continued, those [cancer] cells can once again multiply and the results are usually fatal."

When mom Candace Gundersen decided not to continue chemotherapy treatments for her son, instead seeking a second opinion from other doctors and planning to focus on a non-toxic alternative therapy for the teen, Suffolk County's Child Protective Services seized custody of Nicholas.

Woman who had relationship with creepy porn lawyer Michael Avenatti claims he dragged her by arm across the floor

An actress who says she had a relationship with Michael Avenatti alleges that he dragged her across the floor of his Los Angeles apartment after an argument over money, according to court documents obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press.

Mareli Miniutti wrote in a sworn statement that during the argument, Avenatti shouted expletives at her and told her she was "ungrateful" before he hit her in the face with pillows. She said Avenatti attempted to pull her out of a bed in his guest bedroom and snatched her phone away before she screamed for help.

Avenatti, who was arrested last week on a felony domestic violence charge, called the allegations "completely false." He's scheduled to appear in court next month.

Avenatti, who is mulling a presidential run, is best known as the attorney for porn actress Stormy Daniels, who has said she had an affair with President Donald Trump in 2006, a claim Trump denies. As Daniels' lawyer, Avenatti has pursued the president and those close to him relentlessly for months, taunting Trump in interviews and baiting him and his lawyers in tweets.

Detroit judge dismisses FGM charges - rules law unconstitutional, up to the states to regulate

In a major blow to the federal government, a judge in Detroit has declared America's female genital mutilation law unconstitutional, thereby dismissing the key charges against two Michigan doctors and six others accused of subjecting at least nine minor girls to the cutting procedure in the nation's first FGM case.

The historic case involves minor girls from Michigan, Illinois and Minnesota, including some who cried, screamed and bled during the procedure and one who was given Valium ground in liquid Tylenol to keep her calm, court records show.

The judge's ruling also dismissed charges against three mothers, including two Minnesota women whom prosecutors said tricked their 7-year-old daughters into thinking they were coming to metro Detroit for a girls' weekend, but instead had their genitals cut at a Livonia clinic as part of a religious procedure.

U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman concluded that "as despicable as this practice may be," Congress did not have the authority to pass the 22-year-old federal law that criminalizes female genital mutilation, and that FGM is for the states to regulate. FGM is banned worldwide and has been outlawed in more than 30 countries, though the U.S. statute had never been tested before this case.

'Disgrace to Jews': Israeli consulate in Boston goes after RT America reporter over Gaza tweets

The Israeli consulate in Boston has sent angry messages to a RT America reporter, after his criticism of how the US media were covering the deadly events in Gaza was retweeted by Palestinian activists.

Dan Cohen was pointing out how the Associated Press was "whitewashing Israel's crimes" including the shooting of the agency's own journalist in Gaza on Monday, when he received the messages from the consulate, calling him a "disgrace to Americans and Jews everywhere."

Apparently, the messages were triggered by a couple of tweets by Cohen that were retweeted by Ali Abunimah, the co-founder of Electronic Intifada, a Chicago-based news site reporting from the Palestinian perspective. One of them referenced a documentary Cohen co-produced, called 'Killing Gaza,' about the 2014 conflict in the enclave.

Feminist hysteria spreads as Weather Channel reporter mocked for gender-neutral 'snowperson'

Weather Channel reporter Mike Seidel was mocked on Twitter for bringing woke politics to his weather reports, after he called a snowman a "snowperson."

"1st snowperson of the season and the 2nd snowfall in less than a week in Nashua, NH," he tweeted on Monday, presumably deploying the gender-neutral term 'snowperson' to avoid triggering all the snowwomen and non-binary snowtranssexuals out there.

Seidel's uber-2018 language was instantly mocked on Twitter. "Frosty the Snowperson...just doesn't have the same ring to it," one commenter wrote.

Believe it or not, Seidel's tweet was not the first reference to androgynous snow-people this winter season. In Britain, the BBC was ridiculed earlier this month when a children's presenter called snowmen 'snowpeople.' Cantankerous TV host Piers Morgan mocked the broadcaster, and even Star Trek actor WIlliam Shatner joined in, tweeting "the whole world's going cray!"

Fired Chipotle manager offered job back after being wrongfully accused of racism

Chipotle has offered to rehire a manager in St. Paul, Minnesota, three days after bowing to social media pressure and terminating the employee over internet-fueled accusations of racism. Spoiler alert: the internet was wrong.

Dominique Moran was fired by the Mexican food chain after refusing service to a group of black men, whom she claimed had a history of not paying for meals. One of the taco-deprived customers, Masud Ali, posted a video of the altercation on Twitter, accusing the Chipotle manager of racism.

The video went viral, and on Friday Chipotle canned Moran, explaining that, "This is not how we treat our customers and as a result, the manager has been terminated and the restaurant is being retrained to ensure something like this doesn't happen again."

But the decision to appease the outraged masses appears to have been a smidgeon premature: Before playing the racism card, Ali had openly boasted on Twitter about "dining and dashing" - the ancient art of not paying for meals.

A Moroccan woman living in Al Ain stands accused of dismembering her boyfriend and serving his cooked remains in a rice-and-meat dish known as machboos to a group of construction labourers working near her house.

The rest of the victim's remains not eaten by the workers was thrown to neighbourhood dogs.

Yet to be brought before a courtroom, the woman is facing a slew of charges for butchering her lover after he told her he would marry his cousin who is also from Morocco, according to Al Ain Public Prosecution.

The case came to light when the victim's brother went looking for his sibling at the couple's home and allegedly found a human tooth in a blender.

The brother, an Ajman resident, reported his findings to police after filing a missing persons report in January.

A man has been run over and killed by a plane at a Russian airport, while gruesome footage of the incident emerged online. It is unknown how the man managed to slip past tight security and get onto the tarmac undetected.

The brutal death took place at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport on Tuesday evening. The jet, bound for Athens, was taking off when it ran over and killed a 25-year-old man. The plane did not stop, and continued on with its scheduled flight.

Russian airline Aeroflot has confirmed that it was their passenger jet involved in the fatal incident.

Ghastly footage of the aftermath has surfaced on Twitter, showing scraps of clothing, shoelaces, and blood spattered across the runway. The footage was released online by Russia's Investigative Committee, who have launched a probe into the curious circumstances surrounding the man's tragic death.
