French protests call for 'freedom' amid government vaccine push

More than a hundred thousand people marched across France on Saturday to protest against President Emmanuel Macron's plans to force vaccination of health workers and require a COVID-19 free certificate to enter places such as restaurants and cinemas.

Macron this week announced sweeping measures to fight a rapid surge in coronavirus infections, which protesters say infringe the freedom of choice of those who do not want the vaccination.

The interior ministry said 137 marches took place across the country, gathering nearly 114,000 people, of which 18,000 were in Paris.

The measures had already prompted smaller demonstrations earlier this week, forcing police to use tear gas to disperse protesters.

"Everyone is sovereign in his own body. In no way does a president of the Republic have the right to decide on my individual health," said one protester in Paris who identified herself as Chrystelle.

French President Emmanuel Macron has lost some popularity among young people after his government announced new rules about health passes and mandatory vaccination for health workers.

Macron's approval went down by 13 points among people aged 18-24, a poll by IFOP public opinion agency for Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD) newspaper showed. The president's disapproval rating in this group stands at 51%.

"He is gaining in groups of [the] population, whose vaccination [level] is above average," IFOP general director, Frederic Dabi, told JDD. The paper noted that only 29% of people aged 18-24 are fully vaccinated, as opposed to 79% of those aged over 65.

Dabi said the survey uncovered "polarization, even an extremization of discontent" over the country's vaccination program. Respondents equated the idea of a health pass, pushed by Macron, with "mandatory vaccination in disguise" and "the loss of freedom," he said.

The school is called Experiment House and it's a drab, dull place where, even though it gives the appearance of "everyone doing what they liked," it's really a place where everyone must fit in and those who don't are singled out and persecuted.

The two heroes of the story, Scrubb and Jill, don't fit in at all, and are being chased by a group of bullies when they come up against the wall at the back of the garden. They are trapped, with nowhere else to turn. In the wall is a door that is always locked. But on this occasion, it opens.

6-year-old girl killed, 5 others injured in DC shooting

A 6-year-old girl was killed and five adults injured in a shooting late Friday night in Washington, D.C., with possible suspects still at large, according to police.

D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Executive Assistant Chief Ashan Benedict said in a video posted on Twitter that the shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the southeastern part of the nation's capital.

Benedict said police heard the sound of gunfire and arrived at the scene as a crowd of people also hurried to the area.

The assistant chief said that when they arrived at the site of the shooting, they found a total of six victims.

The 6-year-old was rushed to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead, Benedict said.

Three adult men and two women were also injured in the attack, though the police official said the injuries were believed to be non-life threatening.

Thousands of people have signed a petition which asks that Katie Hopkins be deported from Australia after she admitted breaking lockdown rules in the country.

Katie, who is currently in quarantine in a Sydney hotel, took to Instagram to mocked lockdown rules in the city and Melbourne

The former Apprentice star, who is set to appear in Celebrity Big Brother in the country, admitted breaking the rules in a lengthy Instagram clip which she has now deleted. [video viewable here]

Comment: Ironically, Hopkins has a point, but her callous delivery of it was appalling. If she was hoping to deliver a bit of truth, she blew it by mocking the real suffering of those under Australia's latest lockdown.

A federal judge denied the request of a group of seven lawyers, including Sidney Powell and Lin Wood, who petitioned through their legal counsel on Wednesday to release the footage of a Detroit sanctions hearing on Monday over concerns about misinformation.

Linda Parker, a judge for U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, rejected the motion in a brief opinion that said 13,000 people viewed the proceedings and the courtroom was viewed by far more people than if it was conducted in person. Donald Campbell, the lawyer representing the seven pro-Trump attorneys, insisted the public release of video of the hearing that focused on whether they would face penalties for their 2020 election litigation seeking to overturn the results would help his clients "refute what they believe to be public mischaracterizations" of the proceedings, according to The Detroit News.

The six-hour hearing was initially available for viewers to livestream but removed per court rules.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, despite being vaccinated - and he is far from alone. The latest ZOE data shows that, as of July 12th, infections in the vaccinated (with at least one dose) in the U.K. now outnumber those in the unvaccinated for the first time, as the former continue to surge while the latter plummet (see above). (Note that 68% of the population has had at least one vaccine dose, so there are still at this stage disproportionately more new infections in the unvaccinated, though on current trends that may soon change.)

At what point will the Government accept that these vaccines have limited efficacy in preventing infection and transmission, and thus the whole rationale of being vaccinated to protect others - vaccine passports, compulsory vaccination, and so on - is suspect?

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva says deputies will not enforce the health department's modified order reinstating a mask mandate for indoor public settings that takes effect at 11:59 pm on Saturday, regardless of vaccination status.

On Friday afternoon, Villanueva released a statement indicating that the Sheriff's Department would remain focused on other public safety matters:
"Forcing the vaccinated and those who already contracted COVID-19 to wear masks indoors is not backed by science and contradicts the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) has authority to enforce the order, but the underfunded/defunded Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will not expend our limited resources and instead ask for voluntary compliance. We encourage the DPH to work collaboratively with the Board of Supervisors and law enforcement to establish mandates that are both achievable and supported by science."

Federal judge blocks new applications to DACA

A federal judge in Texas blocked new applications for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in a ruling Friday, increasing pressure on Congress to find a legislative solution for undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country as minors.

Immigration advocates had been expecting the ruling for weeks, fearing Judge Andrew Hanen — a George W. Bush appointee who is known for his tough stance on immigration matters — could rule against the legality of the Obama-era program as a whole.

Hanen ruled that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) violated the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) "with the creation of DACA and its continued operation." However, the judge recognized that current DACA enrollees are dependent on the program's benefits — deferral from deportation, advance parole to travel internationally and a work permit — in order to go about their daily lives. "That reliance has not diminished and may, in fact, have increased over time," wrote Hanen.

On those grounds, Hanen allowed current recipients to maintain and renew their benefits pending a future order from himself, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court.

Comment: Dems want new voters to be permanently locked into the system and that means citizenship. Who cares what it costs or from whose pocket the price is paid.

Nearly 190,000 people tried to illegally enter the United States from its southern border with Mexico in June - the highest number in more than 20 years, and as much as ten times the total recorded during some months under Trump.

According to data from US Customs and Border Protection, June saw 188,829 illegal immigrants attempt to cross the border. The highest number of attempts in 21 years, June's statistics were also over 8,000 people more than May, nearly 10,000 more than April, and over 80,000 more than February.

The statistics show that the number of illegal border crossing attempts shot up considerably following the inauguration of President Joe Biden. 101,095 attempts were made in February compared to 78,442 in January, when Biden took over the White House from President Donald Trump - who was notoriously tough in his policies on illegal immigration.

The number of illegal border crossings is now as much as ten times higher than during Trump's presidency, where the number of attempted crossings was as low as 17,106 in April 2020.

Two in three Republicans in the South and almost half of Democrats in Pacific states want to secede from the Union, according to a new poll.

Conducted in June by YouGov in conjunction with BrightLineWatch, the survey asked participants in each region of the United States: "Would you support or oppose [your state] seceding from the United States to join a new union with [list of states in new union]?"
