Swedes told to 'prepare for war'

Top Swedish officials have urged the country's citizens to prepare for a potential war, amid rising tensions with Moscow. The statements were made at the Folk och Forsvar National Conference in Salen.

In a speech on Sunday, Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom hailed his country's expected membership in NATO as "the biggest change in Swedish security policy in more than 200 years."

Billstrom warned:
"Russia will constitute a serious threat to the security of Sweden and Europe for the foreseeable future. Stockholm must be realistic and assume - and be prepared for - a drawn-out confrontation."
Echoing the sentiment, Defense Minister Pal Jonson said, "war can also come to us," claiming that Ukraine is acting as "Europe's shield" in the conflict with Russia.

Comment: Given Russia's contained exhibition of its capabilities in the war with Ukraine, it should give other nations pause in taking sides against the most formidable opponent on the planet. Neutrality was respected - a position by which all countries would benefit should they be of non-aggressive minds and not salesmen of the trappings of war.

West got Ukraine 'painfully wrong' - EU state's PM

Fico
© Petr David Josek/APSlovak Prime Minister Robert Fico
Slovakia's Robert Fico has slammed "stupid liberal demagogues" who still support military aid to Kiev...

Funding and arming Ukraine is a "futile waste of human resources and money" that will serve only to fill Ukrainian cemeteries with "thousands of dead soldiers," Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico wrote in an op-ed on Tuesday. Fico's article was a rebuttal to his country's president, who has urged him to send weapons to Kiev.

Following his party's electoral victory in September, Fico immediately cut off Slovakia's military aid to Ukraine and vowed to block Kiev's accession to NATO. Slovak President Zuzana Caputova, however, has called for Ukraine to be given "the means needed to defend itself," while pro-Western pundits in Slovakia have accused Fico of cozying up to the Kremlin.

Fico wrote in Slovakia's Pravda newspaper:
"I will no longer be subject to stupid liberal and progressive demagoguery. It is literally shocking to see how the West has repeatedly made mistakes in assessing the situation in Russia."

Shades of the past: 'Transported in Cages' - Shocking Details of How Israel Treats Female Gaza Prisoners

Israeli prisoners
© Palestine ChronicleShocking Details of How Israel Treats Female Gaza Prisoners.
This is a difficult, but critical read. The collective hardship experienced by Gaza's female prisoners in Israel is unprecedented even within the tragic history of Israel's treatment of Palestinian prisoners. The Palestine Chronicle reports ..
The names of 51 female prisoners, illegally detained by invading Israeli forces during their ground operation in Gaza, have been revealed.

This number was announced by the Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Authority in a statement, without confirming whether there are other female prisoners secretly detained in Israel.

Regardless of the exact number, however, the testimonies that were collected from released prisoners reveal shocking abuse, ill-treatment and torture.

The Palestine Chronicle spoke with Lama Khater, from Al-Khalil (Hebron), who was arrested on October 26 and released under the prisoner exchange deal between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Resistance on November 30.

Khater was detained along with ten female prisoners from Gaza and witnessed the abuse they were subjected to.

Comment: Israeli treatment of Palestinian prisoners are reminiscent of events 80 years ago and in stark contrast to how HAMAS treated their prisoners.

There was also this letter from a mother who together with her 5 year old daughter were held as hostages by HAMAS for 48 days and who wrote a letter to her captors. Twitter found the letter to be sensitive, perhaps it was contrary to what the Israeli PR machine wanted to hear.

Written in #Hebrew &translated to Arabic & English below.

In case the post is taken down for some reason here is a screen shot of the post:
Israeli hostage letter
And the text:
"To the Generals who accompanied me in the past few weeks.
"It seems that we will part ways tomorrow, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

"For the extraordinary humanity that you showed towards my daughter Emilia. You were like parents to her, inviting her to your room whenever she wanted. She acknowledges the feeling that you all are not just friends, but true, good-hearted loved ones.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you for the many hours you spent with her as mentors. Thank you for being patient with her & for indulging her with sweets, fruits, & everything, even when it wasn't readily available.

"Children should not be be detained, but thanks to you & thanks to other kind people we met along the way, my daughter considered herself a queen in Gaza...
and, in general, she acknowledges the feeling of being the center of the world.

"We haven't met a single person on our long journey, from the military to the leadership, who did not treat her with gentleness, care, & love.

"I will forever be a captive of gratitude because she did not leave this place with a lasting psychological trauma. I will remember your kind behavior despite the difficult situation you were dealing with yourselves & the severe losses you suffered here in Gaza.

"I wish that in this world, it will be possible for us to become truly food friends. I wish you all good health & well-being. Health & love to you & your families. Thank you very much.

Israel's actions consists of war crimes and their actions are genocidal in intent and nature. Much of the world is standing up to it and foremost South Africa which has brought Israel to the International Court of Justice. The first day in court:

Nations across the Global South have thrown their support behind South Africa's genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), as the hearings are set to begin on 11 January.

On Wednesday, Brazil and Colombia joined other Latin American nations like Bolivia, Venezuela, and Nicaragua publicly endorsing the South African case.

"In light of the flagrant violations of international humanitarian law, the president expressed his support for the initiative of South Africa to ask the International Court of Justice to determine that Israel immediately cease all acts and measures that could constitute genocide or related crimes," the statement from Brasilia reads.

"South Africa's lawsuit is a brave step in the right direction," a statement from the Colombian government stressed.

President laments mislabeling trans lawmaker 'gentleman dressed as woman'

Mexico's leader misgendered a political ally, but has disputed claims he was being transphobic.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador apologized on Tuesday to a transgender lawmaker whom he previously described as a "gentleman dressed as a woman," while denying speculation that he was secretly transphobic.

Lopez Obrador made the gaffe a day earlier, while commenting on a kiss he gave transgender lawmaker Salma Luevano at a public event. In his apology, he stressed that she identifies as a woman and said: "I consider that love has no sex, it is above everything. It's like freedom."

Comment: Yet more identity politics designed to distract the people away from issues that actually matter. If Luevano isn't offended by the President's remarks or actions, then what's the issue?

Trump backs off key early campaign theme because he won't 'have time'

GOP presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump pulled back on his previous key campaign theme of "retribution" Wednesday night, stating that he won't have time for it if he were to win the 2024 elections.

Trump appeared on Fox News' Iowa town hall to discuss his campaign. Fox moderator Bret Baier questioned the former president about his previous comments about retribution, asking Trump how much of a potential term would be "looking forward."

"So there are questions about how much a second term of a Donald Trump presidency - second term - would be about retribution and looking backwards and grievances and how much would be looking forward?" Baier asked.

Comment: You never really know with Trump, who tends to 'shoot from the hip' in interviews, whether what he's saying now will be what he ultimately ends up doing. A lot of people would love to see him go after the perpetrators of these "hoaxes" that were essentially attempts to take down American democracy. But as the old saying goes, "Success is the best revenge".

BRICS member South Africa takes Zionism to court

Pretoria's genocide case against Israel is crucial, not just to stop Tel Aviv's carnage in Gaza, but to plant the first flag of multipolarism in the globe's courtrooms: this is the first case of many that will seek to halt western impunity and restore international law as envisioned in the UN Charter.

Nothing less than the full concept of international law will be on trial this week in The Hague. The whole world is watching.

It took an African nation, not an Arab or Muslim nation, but significantly a BRICS member, to try to break the iron chains deployed by Zionism via fear, financial might, and non-stop threats, enslaving not only Palestine but substantial swathes of the planet.

By a twist of historical poetic justice, South Africa, a nation that knows one or two things about apartheid, had to take the moral high ground and be the first to file a suit against apartheid Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The 84-page lawsuit, exhaustively argued, fully documented, and filed on 29 December 2023, details all the ongoing horrors perpetrated in the occupied Gaza Strip and followed by everyone with a smartphone around the planet.

South Africa asks the ICJ - a UN mechanism - something quite straightforward: Declare that the state of Israel has breached all its responsibilities under international law since 7 October.

And that, crucially, includes a violation of the 1948 Genocide Convention, according to which genocide consists of "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group."

South Africa is supported by Jordan, Bolivia, Turkiye, Malaysia, and significantly the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which combines the lands of Islam, and constitutes 57 member states, 48 of these harboring a Muslim majority. It's as if these nations were representing the overwhelming majority of the Global South.

Whatever happens at The Hague could go way beyond a possible condemnation of Israeli for genocide. Both Pretoria and Tel Aviv are members of the ICJ - so the rulings are binding. The ICJ, in theory, carries more weight than the UN Security Council, where the US vetoes any hard facts that tarnish Israel's carefully constructed self-image.

The only problem is that the ICJ does not have enforcement power.

What South Africa, in practical terms, is aiming to achieve is to have the ICJ impose on Israel an order to stop the invasion - and the genocide - right away. That should be the first priority.

Poland is in the throes of its worst political crisis since the 1980s

poland
It'll either continue sliding further under German suzerainty as a de facto puppet state whose people would be forced to endure the full-fledged imposition of liberal-globalist policies upon them or they'll regain their sovereignty in order to protect their historically conservative-nationalist way of life.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has plunged his country into its worst political crisis since the 1980s in less than a month since returning to power. The Ordo Iuris Institute for Legal Culture concluded in a detailed report late December that his planned judicial and media "reforms" are anti-constitutional. In brief, he wants to subordinate Polish sovereignty to German-controlled European institutions exactly as the former ruling party's chairman Jaroslaw Kaczynski repeatedly warned about last year.

US pressures Spain to 'rectify its decision' and join anti-Yemen alliance

Pedro Sanchez
© Pool Moncloa/Borja Puig de la BellacasaSpanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The Pentagon is in damage control to salvage Operation Prosperity Guardian, as most NATO members have balked at the idea of joining the US-led endeavor
Pentagon officials are pressuring Spain to "reconsider its refusal" to take part in the Red Sea Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG) and have set an 11 January deadline for Madrid to "join with a ship or, at least, with personnel stationed in the area," according to informed sources who spoke with Spanish daily El Confidencial.

As the US-led alliance struggles to make an impact against the pro-Palestine actions of the Yemeni armed forces, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Brown, on Monday contacted his Spanish counterpart, Admiral Teodoro Lopez Calderon, to reiterate Washington's "desire to work with all nations that share an interest in defending the principle of freedom of navigation and ensuring safe passage for global shipping."

Comment: Some of Spain's politicians have been very vocal about their condemnation of Israel's genocide in Gaza, and, over the years, more of its people have supported its BDS than in other European countries.

Moreover, as South Africa's case at the ICJ progresses, it's likely that countries will be even more reluctant to join the ailing hegemon in its genocidal war:

Trump responds to fake photos of him on Epstein's plane: AI is 'very dangerous'

trump

Former President Donald Trump issued a warning about artificial intelligence, saying that it is "very dangerous" for the United States.

Trump made the comment on the AI-generated photos of him on Jeffrey Epstein's plane that were shared on X, the platform once known as Twitter. The former president also reiterated that he did not visit Epstein's "'stupid' island."

"This is what the Democrats do to their Republican Opponent, who is leading them, by a lot, in the Polls," Trump wrote on Truth Social, his alternative social media platform. "This is A.I., and it is very dangerous for our Country! Also, I was never on Epstein's Plane, or at his 'stupid' Island. Strong Laws ought to be developed against A.I. It will be a big and very dangerous problem in the future!"

Comment: Trump is right. The so-called 'deep fakes' generated by AI are taking propaganda to a frighteningly new level.
