The Air Force says an unarmed Minuteman 3 missile has been launched from California's central coast in the latest test of the intercontinental system.

The missile blasted off at 11:39 p.m. PDT Wednesday from Vandenberg Air Force Base northwest of Los Angeles.

The Air Force says the missile carried test re-entry vehicles that headed for a target area 4,200 miles away to the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he's ready to meet his American counterpart, Donald Trump, with Ljubljana, Slovenia, confirmed as a possible venue for the first encounter. "Ljubljana - and Slovenia in general - is of course a great place to hold such dialogue," Putin said on Friday. Putin, who is currently welcoming Slovenian President Borut Pahor in Russia on an official visit, thanked his guest for his eagerness to host such a meeting, but said that the choice of venue did not depend on Moscow alone.

"If this meeting takes place someday, we have nothing against Ljubljana [as the venue]," Putin said at a press conference. He reminded that he also met with former US President Barack Obama in the Slovenian capital. The Russian and the new American presidents had their first phone conversation after Trump's inauguration in January. Yet, after Trump was sworn into presidency, Kremlin said it would take months rather than weeks to organize a meeting between the two leaders. "It won't happen in a matter of weeks," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with the BBC, adding the meeting could "hopefully" happen "in the months to come."

Comment: Smooth move on Putin's part. Slovenia is where Melania was born.

Trump has said in the past he admires Putin and has lamented the dangerous state of tensions between Washington and Moscow.See also:

Crude oil prices gained almost two percent on Friday after the International Energy Agency (IEA) reported the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is complying with self-imposed production limits.

OPEC was 90 percent compliant with output cut goals in January, the IEA reported.

"Some producers, notably Saudi Arabia, (are) appearing to cut by more than required," the agency said.

Wall Street surged to record highs after Trump's hint of 'phenomenal' tax cut

US stocks rallied on Thursday with three main indexes surging to new record highs after President Trump said he would make a significant tax announcement in a few weeks.

"Lowering the overall tax burden on American business is big league. We're going to announce something I would say over the next two or three weeks that will be phenomenal in terms of tax," the President said without getting into details as he met with airline industry executives at the White House.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.59 percent higher on Thursday to finish at 20,172 points, breaking the previous closing record. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite both gained 0.58 percent. All three indexes closed at all-time highs.

Following three sessions of declines, financials were up 1.4 percent, with energy shares gaining 0.9 percent.

Those sectors stand to benefit should lower taxes spur economic activity as interest rates and the demand for energy rise, according to Bruce McCain, chief investment strategist at Key Private Bank, as quoted by Reuters.

"Given the groups that responded and the enthusiasms within the market, it seems to be the tax comments that lit off the rally today," the analyst said.

The utilities sector, which is considered a defensive bet, was the worst-performing, showing a decline of 0.8 percent.

Explosives found & 4 arrested, including 16yo girl, in French anti-terrorist raid

Four people have been arrested in the Montpellier area of southern France, a teenage girl among them. The anti-terrorist squad seized explosives and materials on how to make a bomb.

Among the arrestees were a 22-year-old man and his 16-year-old girlfriend, both of whom were previously known to the authorities for their links to radical Islamists.

As the officers from the Anti-Terrorist Branch (SDAT) searched the man's house, they found 70 grams of TATP explosives (the same kind used in the November 2015 Paris attacks), as well as an amateur bomb-making workshop and materials.

"The four suspects were arrested after they bought acetone," a police source told AFP. "It seems they intended to go through with it and to make several explosive devices."

The acetone would have been used to produce more TATP, a highly-volatile substance sometimes nicknamed 'Mother of Satan'.

"Bruno Le Roux, the minister of the interior, would like to congratulate the investigators of the Anti-Terrorist Branch (SDAT), who conducted an operation this morning that led to the arrest of 4 individuals, including three directly suspected of preparing violent action on our territory," his ministry said in a statement.

"The minister hails the success of this operation that, according to preliminary evidence gathered, has helped to thwart an imminent planned attack on French soil. Bruno Le Roux wishes to pay a strong tribute to the action of the security forces, which, together with the magistrates, are fighting terrorism with an exemplary determination."

Three of the suspects are accused of preparing a suicide attack, while the 16-year-old girl was thought to be planning on making the journey to Syria.

Just one of Germany's eight Airbus A400M military transport aircraft can be used at the moment, the country's air force has said. The news comes after one of the planes broke down while the German defense minister was visiting Lithuania.

Recently, three planes - including the one in Lithuania - were out for unscheduled repairs, and two more were set to be checked, a spokesman for the German Air Force said, as cited by Reuters.

The spokesman added that a seventh plane was still undergoing the acceptance process following the arrival on January 31.

"Of course, we'd like to have more of the aircraft ready for use, but it's also normal that aircraft need to be inspected and maintained," the spokesman concluded.

Trump says 'no reason' to curb asset seizures by police

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday there was "no reason" to curb law enforcement agencies that seize cash, vehicles and other assets of people suspected of crimes, a practice that some lawmakers and activists have criticized for denying legal rights.

The issue of civil asset forfeiture, created to disrupt the activities of organized crime groups, arose when sheriffs from around the United States told Trump at a White House meeting that they were under pressure to ease the practice.

"I'd like to look into that," Trump said. "There's no reason for that."

9th Circuit Court upholds halt on Trump's travel ban

The restraining order on enforcement of the travel ban on seven countries has been upheld unanimously by a three-judge panel of the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. The case will likely continue to be appealed until it reaches the Supreme Court.

"We hold that the government has not shown a likelihood of success on the merits of its appeal, nor has it shown that failure to enter a stay would cause irreparable injury, and we therefore deny its emergency motion for a stay," the appeals court's decision said.

Trump responded on Twitter in all caps, saying, "SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE!"

Media Matters conspiring with Facebook & Google to censor alternative media-leaked docs expose

media matters
A recently leaked briefing document from political operator David Brock's ultra-liberal, self-proclaimed media watchdog, Media Matters, has exposed the hard-left activist group conspiring with Facebook and Google to create a strategy to marginalize and ban political thought outside of the progressive neoliberal paradigm - essentially censoring libertarian and conservative political speech.

For those uninitiated, Brock is the key cog in the hard-left neo-liberal political media attack machine that attempts to propagandize the public into accepting a progressive political narrative as fact. Essentially, Brock acts as the tip of the spear in the left's culture war - forwarding a divide and conquer paradigm based largely on identity politics.

To give some perspective into this strategy one need only look back to the teachings of ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu and his seminal treatise, The Art of War. He proposed that indirect warfare is one of the most efficient ways of fighting an enemy. It allows an opponent to defeat their adversary without directly engaging them, thereby saving themselves the resources that would have to be expended in a direct confrontation.
