The Syrian army is on the way to liberate the ISIS besieged city of some 100,000 and garrison of Deir Ezzor in the east of the country.
The U.S. has trained a few thousand "New Syrian Army" insurgents in Jordan and is reportedly prepared to march these and its own forces from Jordan through the east-Syrian desert all the way up to Raqqa and Deir Ezzor. About a year ago it
occupied the al-Tanf (al-Tanaf) border station which consists of only a few buildings in the mid of the desert. The station between Syria and Iraq near the Jordan border triangle was previously held by a small ISIS group.
A U.S. move from the south up towards the Euphrates would cut off the Syrian government from the whole south-east of the country and from its people in Deir Ezzor. While that area is sparsely populated it also has medium size oil and gas fields and is the land connection to the Syrian allies in Iraq.
With the western part of the country relatively quiet, the
Syrian government and its allies decided to finally retake the south-eastern provinces from ISIS. They want to lift the ISIS siege on Deir Ezzor and close the border between Syria and Iraq with its own forces. The move will
also block any potential U.S. invasion from the south by retaking the road to al-Tanf and the Syrian-Iraqi border (red arrows). The sovereign Syrian state will
not give up half of the country to an illegal occupation by ISIS or the U.S. At the same time as the eastern operations are running consolidation and clearing operations against ISIS in the middle and west of the countries will take place (green arrows).
Comment: With the US coalition forces remaining in Syria, going rogue and thinking they are strategic players, they are choosing to be the cause of potential escalation. Lose the delusions. Go home or stick to the script. When all is said and done, who becomes the beneficiary? Puppet master Israel is now thinking the Golan Heights was a drop in the bucket.

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) is expected to become the next chairman of the House Oversight Committee, replacing Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) in the high-profile post when he leaves Congress late next month, according to multiple senior House Republicans.
Gowdy, who chaired the House Select Committee on Benghazi, has started buttonholing members of the House Steering Committee in recent days to build support. Five members of that panel, which decides committee assignments, told POLITICO that Gowdy would easily win a race for the job should another member challenge him.
If he does clinch the chairmanship, Gowdy would oversee the sensitive investigation into whether President Donald Trump pressured the FBI to drop a federal investigation of his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor, previously chaired the House Select Committee on Benghazi and was an outspoken critic of the Obama administration. This time, however, he'd be the top congressional watchdog for a Republican presidency."Trey is more than qualified to be the next chairman of Oversight," said Steering Committee member Tom Graves (R-Ga.), who intends to nominate Gowdy for the post. "He has a lot of support from our conference, and given the responsibilities that come with the position, and his past pedigree [as a prosecutor], he's perfect for the job."

America's first lady has not been "ordered" to dress conservatively in Saudi Arabia, the country chosen by her husband as his first official overseas destination. Along with meetings on the US president's itinerary, there will also reportedly be time for entertainment in the lavish Arab kingdom.
While the choice of the first country to be visited by Trump as America's 45th president has been widely discussed in the media, a question has arisen whether there is a chance to see the US president's wife covered in a traditionally strict Muslim attire.
Women in Saudi Arabia, including foreign visitors, are typically expected to wear a floor length dress - abaya, and a head scarf. However, when asked whether the US first lady would have to dress accordingly, a Saudi Arabia official said Riyadh "usually doesn't demand" a specific dress-code, but rather "accepts suggestions."

Russian authorities control the situation in the country and will not allow a 'color revolution' scenario planned by foreign special services, says Secretary of the Security Council Nikolay Patrushev.
"This is a traditional political tool for some nations, aimed at destruction of statehood and sovereignty of a foreign country, conducted under an excuse of democratization. In reality, almost any country where a color revolution is launched eventually descends into chaos and falls under external management," Patrushev said in an interview with
Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily.
"I would like emphasize that we are keeping the situation under control. Law enforcement agencies and special services have accumulated considerable experience in prevention of various provocations and other illegal activities," he added.
Patrushev also said that he possessed information that Western nations still have hopes for successfully implementing a "color revolution" scenario in Russia and are actively sponsoring various NGOs that attempt to cause protests, often by spreading blatant lies.

New York Times Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim's blogger Michael Schmidt told professional liar Brian Williams that he hadn't seen the memos that James Comey allegedly wrote. "
Someone that had seen them recounted details to me," Schmidt said in what is a breach of journalistic protocol.
Schmidt has been called out for getting a story wildly wrong before thanks to his anonymous sources. Schmidt, citing his anonymous federal law enforcement sources, claimed that one of the San Bernardino terrorists had talked about jihad openly. She didn't.
His boss even reprimanded him and called for "
systematic changes" to the way Schmidt and Carlos Slim's blog use anonymous sources.

Dialog between foreign intelligence agencies and their Russian counterparts continues, despite calls from politicians to stop, according to Russian Security Council secretary Nikolay Patrushev. This is partly due to the threat of terrorism, he said.
"The way that the intelligence services and security officials act differs a lot from the stance of politicians, who call for communication with Russia to be curbed, and the intelligence communities are the subordinates of countries' leaders, but in fact, they come here [to Russia] on a bilateral basis, speak regularly, express their interest and study the experience," Patrushev told Rossiya-24 TV channel ahead of a major security summit set to take place May 23-25 in the Russian city of Tver.
"All in all, we see that this eagerness to communicate with us expands... We don't feel any isolation at all. On the contrary, the number of those attending is growing constantly," he added. Up to 90 countries are set to be represented at the summit in Tver, he said, compared with last year's presence of 75 countries at the 2016 summit in Grozny.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) made a surprise statement Thursday on "America's News HQ," saying he believes operatives in the Clinton campaign emailed the Justice Department during the email investigation.
Graham said he has "reason to believe" the communications exist and said he would like to see them turned over to the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which he is a member."If there was a communication to the Department of Justice about an ongoing investigation from people who are the subject of the investigation, I want to know that," he said.

China's foreign minister has called on South Korea to resolve the issues impeding relations between the two nations, which are now "at a crossroads." Ties soured following the deployment of the American THAAD missile defense system in South Korea.
The statement by Foreign Minister Wang Yi came during the ongoing visit of the South Korean president's special envoy, Lee Hae-chan, to China. It is the first trip by a South Korean official to Beijing since Moon Jae-in won the presidential race earlier this month.Speaking after the meeting with the envoy on Thursday, the Chinese foreign minister said that the two countries have experienced "unexpected setbacks" in bilateral ties this year, adding that relations are now "at a crossroads."
"We hope the new [South Korean] government will correct the problems we have encountered and take effective measures and positions as soon as possible to remove the obstacles that have been placed on the road to good relations between our two countries," Wang is quoted as saying by state
newspaper the
Global Times.

The coalition strikes reportedly occurred near At Tanf town, where US' and British special operations forces have been training Syrian rebel fighters near the border with Iraq and Jordan.A US defense official
told Sputnik that the US-led coalition struck the Syrian army near the town of At Tanf
in the area of an established safe zone backed by Russia, Iran and Turkey.
According to the media outlet, US officials explain the strikes as "force protection" for the US Special Forces based in the area. Reuters cited a US official as saying that the strikes occurred
after "warning shots by U.S. aircraft meant to disuade the [Syrian army's] fighters."
It is unclear yet whether the strikes have killed any Syrian soldiers or pro-government militia fighters as there has been no official comment from Damascus so far. The Pentagon has released no official statement as well.

US coalition jets strike Syrian government convoy in Southern SyriaInteresting timing, coming after this report, with commentary from
Russia Insider:
You thought US needed Syria's permission to set itself up in Syria? You had it wrong. It's actually Syria which requires American permission to retake its territory:
As we reported last week the Syrian army is making progress in the southern desert. It is edging eastwards towards the Iraqi border and towards joint US-rebel positions at al-Tanf border crossing.
The question is all the more acute now as it has become apparent the US believes Syria requires US permission to restore its territory. As The Telegraph reports:
The US has sent a clear message that any government advance towards their base will not be accepted. However, it is unclear how the special forces will react to any serious provocation.
As the
Telegraph report pointed out, this sets Assad's troops on "a collision course" with the U.S. and their proxies. We guess we now know what the U.S. response is to any "serious provocation". (Keep in mind that the presence of the U.S. forces is the actual provocation - they're there illegally!)
Update: RT
reports that the group attacked was a militia group allied with the SAA. The U.S. statement reads:
"This action was taken after apparent Russian attempts to dissuade Syrian pro-regime movement south towards At Tanf were unsuccessful, a coalition aircraft show of force, and the firing of warning shots," the statement said.
The Syrian forces allegedly entered a so-called "de-confliction" zone in the Homs Governorate, which was perceived as a threat to "US-allied troops." The militia forces allegedly clashed with the Pentagon-backed Maghawir Al-Thawra militant group (formerly known as New Syrian Army), which called in coalition air support.
"We notified the coalition that we were being attacked by the Syrian army and Iranians in this point and the coalition came and destroyed the advancing convoy," Reuters cited a militant representative as saying.
Apparently a tank and bulldozer were hit. Al-Masdar is reporting six killed, three injured. The U.S. says this incident does not represent a change in policy or an escalation, and that the de-confliction zone agreement remains in effect.
Head of the upper house's Defense and Security Committee Viktor Ozerov
told Sputnik: "I hope that this incident will not affect the Geneva negotiation process, but, conversely, will become the most important item on the agenda of the Geneva talks. There needs to be a clearer interaction between the coalition led by the US and the Syrian government forces."
US Central Command spokesman Josh Jacques
told Sputnik: "I believe there are casualties, but I don't have the full battle damage assessment for the engagement at this point. We are still conducting our assessment." He
told RT:
"If they were being used," a US Central Command spokesman told RT, casualties would be likely, but he said he is "not speculating."
CentCom spokesman Josh Jacques told RT that an assessment of Thursday's attack is being conducted, but that even when it is completed, there would not be an exact body count reported, because they don't have ground access.
Update (May 19): A Syrian source gave Sputnik their version of events from
on the ground:
The convoy itself was comprised of 5 T-62 main battle tanks, a ZSU-23-4 Shilka anti-aircraft weapon system and several four-wheel drive vehicles, crewed by a total of 50 troopers.
The coalition aircraft, flying at very low altitude, entered Syrian airspace from the direction of Jordan and after firing several warning shots launched a missile attack against the convoy, damaging two tanks and several vehicles.
The return fire from Shilka's four 23mm autocannons forced the attacking aircraft to rapidly gain altitude, thus becoming visible to the radars of the S-200 surface-to-air weapon systems of the 16th regiment based in al Damir. Having detected the retaliatory S-200 missile launches, the invading coalition aircraft quickly fled the Syrian airspace.
A total of six men were killed and three were injured during this attack.
SOHR says
eight were killed.
Syrian UN Ambassador Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari called the attack
terrorism:
The important thing is that our political ambition is higher because we want to focus on fighting terrorism represented by armed groups and the state and government terrorism happening against our country. This includes the American aggression, French aggression and British aggression.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov
called it "absolutely unacceptable":
Any military actions leading to the aggravation of the situation in Syria definitely affect the political process. Especially if such actions are committed against the Syrian armed forces... This is totally unacceptable; it is a violation of Syrian sovereignty. Of course, it does not help the political process.
Lavrov went a tad further:
"No matter what the reason for the decision of US command to strike such a blow, it is illegitimate, it is illegal, and it is another gross violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic," he told reporters.
Lavrov said that the US tried to justify the blow to Syria by saying that "these government forces created a threat to the opposition, which cooperates with the American military amidst the coalition that the Americans are heading."
The minister also said that, according to some reports, several dozen civilians were killed as a result of this strike. He clarified that now Moscow is checking all the details of what happened.
"We are very concerned that the overall understanding about the need to unite the efforts of all who really oppose the terrorists of IGIL * and the former "Jabhat-an-Nusra *" is unravelling," Lavrov said.
"All this, of course, is taking place against the backdrop of growing calls from Washington and a number of other Western capitals to stop all contact with Bashar Assad," the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry said, and he noted that "this is, in fact, indulging terrorists."
The Syrian Defense Ministry released a
statement:
"[On Thursday,] at 4:30 pm [local time; 1:30 pm GMT], the so-called coalition attacked a position of the Syrian Army on the al-Tanaf highway in the Syrian desert, which led to casualties and material loss," the Ministry said in the statement.
There can be no justification for the US coalition's strike on the Syrian Army positions, the Defense Ministry stressed, adding that the attack "shows the real goals" of the coalition.
"The Syrian Army is fighting against al-Nusra Front [former name of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham] and Daesh terrorist groups [both banned in Russia and multiple countries]... Those who claim to be fighting against terrorism must direct their strikes at the [groups], not at the only legitimate Syrian Army that is battling terrorism together with its allies and friends," the statement concluded.
According to Sputnik,
military contact between Russia and the U.S. is still up and running.

Go home or stick to the script. When all is said and done, who becomes the beneficiary? Puppet master Israel is now thinking the Golan Heights was a drop in the bucket.
