German military to leave Incirlik airbase: Split inside NATO

German soldiers exiting plane
Amid a major breakdown in diplomatic relations between Turkey and Germany, Turkey's Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that Berlin must decide between its friendship with Ankara and alleged coup plotters, after Germany granted political asylum to military officials with suspected links to last year's failed coup d'état. In retaliation, Turkey refused to allow lawmakers to visit Incirlik base near Syria.

Last year Turkey banned German parliamentarians from visiting the base for months in response to a resolution in the German parliament declaring the 1915 massacre of Armenians by Ottoman forces genocide - a term Ankara rejects. Germany has about 250 military personnel stationed at Incirlik airbase in southern Turkey, flying Tornado surveillance missions over Syria and refueling flights as a member of the US-led anti-Islamic State (IS) coalition.

The move made Chancellor Angela Merkel take a decision to withdraw all German military personnel stationed at the base. According to her, Germany will have "to explore other ways of fulfilling our mandate". One alternative among others is Jordan.

US attack on Syrian forces: Asserting 'safe zones'

Syrian tank
US warplanes struck a Syrian military convoy within Syrian territory, after claiming the forces came too close to US military positions.

In legal terms, it was both an act of war and criminal. The US military is currently occupying Syrian territory without invitation by the Syrian government and without any form of mandate from the United Nations.

In geostrategic terms, the United States is attempting to assert itself and its geopolitical strategy of establishing and subsequently expanding "safe zones" inside Syrian territory in a bid to topple the Syrian government, then divide and destroy the Syrian state.

Japanese warplanes were deployed to disputed islets in the East China Sea, as Chinese Coast Guard vessels entered the troubled waters and allegedly launched a military drone. Beijing claimed instead the drone belonged to "relevant media."

Japan scrambled two F-15 fighter jets, one E-2C early warning aircraft, and an AWACS surveillance plane on Thursday as China Coast Guard vessel 2308 entered the waters surrounding the disputed East China Sea islets and deployed a "object that looks like a drone,"according to a Japanese Defense Ministry statement.

The Senkaku islets are controlled by Japan, but also claimed by China and Taiwan - which Beijing considers part of its territory.

Maxine Waters strikes again: Putin helped Trump come up with 'crooked Hillary' and 'lock her up'

Maxine Waters on TV
Putin is a man of many talents apparently.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters proves that you can say anything on TV and not be chased off, as long as you liberally sprinkle it with the word "absolutely" in the strangest of places:
"Yes absolutely. I am talking about strategies that were developed. Working with the Trump campaign. I really do believe that much of what you saw coming out from Trump's mouth was a play from Putin playbook.

I think that when you saw him, absolutely, calling Hillary 'crooked', 'lock her up, lock her up', all of that I think was developed strategically with people from the Kremlin, with Putin and I think it's more of them bank records.

I think that you can see that visits to Moscow were made during the campaign by [campaign manager] Manafort and others. I think it's a lot more absolutely than just following papers.

Donations from the billionaire business lobby to the Conservative Party are already almost double the total handed to Jeremy Corbyn's Labour by the trade union movement, figures published by the Electoral Commission on Friday show.

In the first of six pre-poll donation reports, accounting for the week between May 3 and May 9, the Tories received a whopping 56 big-money donations, amounting to more than £4.1 million (US$5.3 million). In the same period, the Labour Party gathered just under £2.7 million from nine donations, of which the main ones came from trade unions.

As per the Political Parties Elections Referendums Act 2000, parties must hand the Electoral Commission a total of six donation and loan reports for any money received ahead of the election in values of more than £7,500.

Two Chinese Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets came within 150 feet of a US Air Force WC-135 Constant Phoenix aircraft while it was flying in international airspace above the East China Sea on Wednesday, officials told CNN.

Earlier, a US official told CNN the Chinese jets came within 150 feet of the US plane, with one of the Su-30s flying inverted, or upside down, directly above the American plane.

Officials told NBC News that the crew of the Constant Phoenix described the confrontation as "unprofessional." The US crew said they were acting in full accordance with international law.

Here's why Special Counsel Robert Mueller is going to disappoint the Democrats and the media

Robert Mueller
Far from being a threat to President Trump the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller seems to be intended to draw a line under the Russiagate affair.

Robert Mueller's appointment as Special Counsel to supervise the Russiagate investigation has led to a state bordering on euphoria on the part of the Democrats and the mainstream media.

It is understandable. The Democrats have been calling for the appointment of a Special Counsel and President Trump - very unwisely - has been resisting them. Though President Trump appeared in his statement yesterday to welcome the decision, in tweets today he has made clear his continued resentments about it.

Report reveals Le Pen French election victory would have triggered 'emergency crisis plan'

Marine Le Pen

France was ready to deploy a secret crisis plan to "protect the republic" if far-right politician Marine Le Pen had won the election, a French magazine has reported, citing sources. The plan included flooding the streets with police to maintain order.

Citing three senior sources close to the French government and state organizations, France's L'Obs magazine has revealed that a plan was devised because the country was fearing "extreme violence" and chaos if Le Pen won the election against Emmanuel Macron.

The first priority, the magazine said, was to preserve order on the streets, as authorities expected major violent protests, The Local reported, citing the L'Obs article.

The President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro has said the country is to import large quantities of Russian wheat. The announcement followed a phone call to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We are ready, all the documents have already been signed, and very soon Russia will supply Venezuela with 60,000 tons of wheat per month on a regular basis starting from this year," Maduro said.

He added five enterprises to assemble Russian trucks would start soon in Venezuela.

Maduro and Putin discussed strategic partnership and the implementation of mutually beneficial projects.

Thousands of Hezbollah troops deployed in al-Tanf to foil US plot in Syria

Hezbollah troops
Thousands of Hezbollah troops were sent to al-Tanf passageway at Iraq-Syria bordering areas to prepare the Syrian army and its allies for thwarting the US plots in the region and establish security at the Palmyra-Baghdad road.

Hezbollah has deployed 3,000 forces in al-Tanf region to participate in Badiyeh operations in Syria. Most of the forces had earlier been stationed in al-Zabadani, Madhaya and Sarqaya regions as well as the Western parts of the town of al-Tofail and Brital, Ham and Ma'araboun heights in the Eastern mountain.

Other units, including the Syrian army allies, have also been sent to this front to block the way to the US-backed forces.

A well-informed military source said on Wednesday that the Syrian army forces will not allow the US and its western or regional allies to create a buffer zone in the Southern part of the country as a safe haven for militants' activities.
