House Intel Committee officially begins to 'release the memo'

Comey House Intel Committee
After millions of Americans called on Congress to release the bombshell FISA abuse memo, Rep. Dave Joyce (R-OH) announced Saturday that the process has officially begun.

"Great news! Our efforts to #ReleaseTheMemo have been effective and the HPSIC plans to begin the process to release the FBI/FISA/Russia memo. This may take up to 19+ Congressional work days but Americans deserve to know the truth," tweeted Joyce.

The airing of a Russian-produced documentary series on Soviet leaders by Czech public television violated broadcasting regulations, the Central European country's media regulator has said.

The eight-part series, Forgotten Leaders, which aired on Czech Television (CT) in December, included a two-part segment on Lavrenty Beria, the notorious former Soviet secret police chief.

The Czech Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting said that the series "highlighted Beria's 'managerial' successes and character," while minimizing or ignoring his role in Soviet dictator Josef Stalin's reign of terror, the Czech news portal Lidovky.cz reported on January 19.

The Italian government is cracking down on fake news ahead of its upcoming general election, launching a portal that allows the public to report online news hoaxes directly to the police.

Reports of fake news can be made via a "red button" system on the website of Italy's postal police - the division that tackles cyber crime.

Those reporting media disinformation are asked to share the website address where the 'fake news' was posted and the social media site it was shared on.

Drop in the bucket: Twitter catches a few more 'Kremlin trolls' as Congress-spurred hunt continues

Twitter has blocked another 1000 accounts it reckons posted Russian-linked "propaganda" to influence the 2016 US election, while admitting that only some eight percent of the sinister "Kremlin troll'" tweets were election-related.

"We have identified an additional 1,062 accounts associated with the IRA [Internet Research Agency, a Russian entity habitually accused of meddling with US democracy]. We have suspended all of these accounts for Terms of Service violations," the San Francisco based social media giant said Friday.

"At the request of congressional investigators, we are also sharing those account handles with Congress."

The accounts were terminated despite the fact that over 91.6% percent of tweets associated with the "Russia-linked" profiles had nothing to do with the US election, as Twitter keeps caving in to political pressure by US lawmakers.

Comment: 0.016% eh? Good work Twitter, you have exposed how 'deeply' Russia has NOT infiltrated Twitter with Kremlin trolls. Here's the email some users received on Twitter for having either followed, liked or retweeted something from a "Russian propaganda account":

The GOP's Conflict: Lust for Power versus Fundamental Truth?

Republicans know salvation can't be found in government-but they also want to control that same government.

Both of America's political party establishments have gone adrift, though in very different ways. As Ross Douthat observed last year, the GOP "behaves like it's in the political wilderness, an election-winning machine that has no idea what to do with power."

This is manifestly not the case for Democrats.

When Bruce Miller, the creator of the television adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale, ended his Golden Globe speech with a call to prevent his show's dystopian future from coming to fruition, liberals knew exactly what he meant. Their ultimate purpose is to demonize and persecute those who are, by dint of binary logic, intent on creating the type of world depicted in Miller's series.

Apple censors Rapper Vic Mensa's views on Palestine

Did Apple just censor Vic Mensa's views on Palestine? It sure looks like it.

In December, the hip hop artist released a powerful video on YouTube for his track "We Could Be Free," highlighting connections between Palestinian, Black and Native American struggles for liberation and self-determination.

Mensa had filmed much of the video in Palestine, telling the website AllHipHop: "I took scenes from the military occupation of a village I visited in Palestine and juxtaposed them with racial violence in America to show how similar our struggles are and imagine a world without division."

The Grammy-nominated Chicago artist went much further in a powerful essay in Time last week detailing Israel's depredations and his sense of outrage after witnessing them last summer.

'Russiagate'-obsessed Democrats have become the number one threat to national security

wide eyed Dr. Strangelove
By criminalizing alleged "contacts with the Kremlin"--and by demonizing Russia itself--today's Democrats are becoming the party of the new and more perilous Cold War.

Stephen F. Cohen, professor emeritus of Russian Studies and Politics (at NYU and Princeton), and John Batchelor continue their (usually) weekly discussions of the new US-Russian Cold War. (Previous installments, now in their fourth year, are at TheNation.com.)

In light of recent events, from Washington to the false alerts in Hawaii and Japan, Cohen returns to a theme he has explored previously: the ways in which the still-unproven Russiagate allegations, promoted primarily by the Democratic Party, have become the number-one threat to American national security. Historical context is needed, which returns Cohen briefly to related subjects he has also previously discussed with Batchelor.

Tired of US 'aid', Africa and Global South seek China

wall Africa chinese

How much can Raytheon, MasterCard, Nokia, Monsanto and the like be trusted to invest in long-term outcomes in the Global South? When you see the actors behind U.S. 'aid and development' in Africa, is it any wonder that African leaders would look for any other partner to work with?

There has been a growing focus on the economic development underway in Africa. There is a reason behind this seemingly new interest of Western powers in events happening in Africa, and the reason is simple: China is a new power dominating business on the continent and has clearly caught the West's attention.

China now has partner nations spanning the entire continent from Mauritania to South Africa, in a growing number of relationships that challenge the perceived hegemony of the triumvirate of Western capital, military, and NGO operations. This is making the U.S. nervous, as more African nations begin to see China as the better choice as an economic partner, due to Beijing's fewer-strings-attached approach.

Comment: The West has its 'Eye of Sauron' focused on Africa. With China as its new partner, Africa is not looking back.

Soros Predicts EU Collapse, Preemptively Blames Russia

Soros

Soros was a victim all along. Who would have thought?

In a recent interview with the Financial Times, George Soros, the Open Society Foundation ''Philanthropist'' and ''Democracy-spreader'', shockingly predicted the downfall of the EU and Russia's active attempts to wield the Excalibur of nationalism in its quest to become a ''resurgent nationalist power''. Two days ago, Anatoly Karlin reminded the financier that Russia did not go bankrupt as he predicted in 2016 but has instead turned the tide with various econometrics suggesting increases in several different areas. Now that this prediction can be crossed off the list, most would assume that sliding into a corner hidden from the round of criticism would be the next recommended action. Not for Mr. Soros as he comes with yet another enlightening forecast.

Comment: Apparently, Putin 'made Russia great again' in a grudge match with Soros. New World Disorder. Tsk!

We 'hear' who you are! The NSA finds and tracks people with 'voice-matching technology'

NSAcogs
© OpEdNews/KJN
Declassified documents reveal the National Security Agency has been using secret "speaker recognition" technology to identify people by their unique "voiceprint" for more than a decade.

The NSA has been recording and gathering private phone calls for years, but it used to be difficult for the agency to identify unknown speakers. In the past, signals intelligence (SIGINT) transcribers worked on the same targets for years before they became familiar enough with a speaker's unique voice to be able to verify their identity.

Now, the NSA is using more advanced computational systems developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in order to catch spies and terrorists, according to a declassified NSA document obtained by media outlet the Intercept.

The document describes how the NSA used the technology during Operation Iraqi Freedom to match an audio recording to former leader Saddam Hussein's "voiceprint." The NSA also used the technology to compare the voice of a captured suspect with previous audio recordings from terrorist Abu Hakim to confirm that the suspect was not a match.

Comment: Interesting how long the 'security agencies' have been 'mute' to the public about the disturbing development, progress and extent of these technologies. What's in your 'audio file'?
