Former Russian ambassador to US Kislyak: 'Unchallenged US domination becoming a thing of the past'

Americans are not used to treating others with equal respect, and are trying to impose their "exceptional leadership" on Moscow, not fully aware that things have changed, Russia's former envoy to Washington, Sergey Kislyak, said.

The US is presently going through a "difficult period of adaptation to a new alignment of forces and influences in the world," Kislyak told Kommersant newspaper on Tuesday.

"The unchallenged American domination and leadership is becoming a thing of the past. Economically, China has almost overtaken the United States. Europe is beginning at the very least to try to speak its own political language. Meanwhile, Russia got up off its knees, straightened its shoulders and proved that it can stand up for its national interests.

"At the same time, from what we do and say, nothing is 'anti-American.' First and foremost, we are talking only about the need to ensure our national security interests," the now-retired Russian ambassador to the US noted.

Comment: The US has been able to acknowledge, at least to a limited extent, that it's primacy, ie. its ability to dominate, is on the wane - so one supposes that the madness we are now seeing is its last hurrah!

Netanyahu suspends UN migrant deal for 'renewed examination' - then scraps it

Just hours after reaching a deal that would see thousands of African migrants remain in Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu has temporarily suspended the agreement with the UN Refugee Agency, pending talks with those affected.

On Monday, Israel and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) struck a deal that would allow some 16,250 illegal African migrants to gain legal status and stay in Israel. The same number of Africans, who entered the country illegally, would be relocated to Western nations under the agreement, which would be carried out in three stages over five years.

While the UNHCR praised the arrangement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he will temporarily freeze the deal until he has a chance to speak with those affected by the UN-Israeli plan.

And, just a day after "reaching" the deal, Netanyahu has cancelled it:
"In the past 24 hours, I have held many consultations with Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, with professionals and representatives of residents of southern Tel Aviv," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote in a Facebook post. "I listened attentively to the agreement. As a result, and after evaluating a new balance of advantages and disadvantages, I decided to cancel the agreement."

"Despite the growing legal and international difficulties, we will continue to act with determination to exhaust all the possibilities available to us to remove the infiltrators," he added.

Israel announced on Monday that it had reached a deal with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) under which Canada, Italy and Germany would host at least 16,250 migrants, while around the same number would have stayed in Israel.

Netanyahu's decision to nix the UN deal was praised by his government. Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely endorsed the move and said that Tel Aviv would "reach the desirable decision - the removal of infiltrators from Israel," according to Haaretz.

Litvinenko's father on Skripal case: ''UK investigators will only hide the truth, not find it'

Fugitive Russians in the UK are effectively "hostages" of Western spy agencies, the father of Alexander Litvinenko, an intelligence officer who was poisoned in London a decade ago, told RT, sharing his insight on the Skripal case.

Walter Litvinenko used to support the theory of Russia's involvement in the 2006 poisoning of his son, Alexander, in London; but he changed his mind after years of analyzing inconsistencies in the investigation. London said that the fugitive Russian intelligence officer was poisoned with highly radioactive Polonium-210. Despite an inconclusive investigation, it pinned the blame on Moscow, while the incident was branded as the first ever act of "nuclear terrorism." Russia has vehemently denied allegations of its involvement in the incident.

The poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury on March 4 was, in turn, labeled "the first offensive use of a nerve agent in Europe since World War II." While it bears similarities to the poisoning of Litvinenko, it was handled with different tactics, Walter Litvinenko told RT.

Moscow refuses probe into Skripal case if Russian specialists won't take part

Moscow advocates an open and transparent investigation of the Salisbury incident, Russia's envoy to OPCW has said. If Russian experts are barred from taking part in it, any results of the probe will be rejected, he warned.

"Our position is clear. We advocate a comprehensive, open and unbiased investigation. Russia is ready for it, and our experts are ready to participate in such work," Russia's permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Alexander Shulgin told VGTRK's '60 minutes' program on Monday.

The OPCW experts have already collected samples in the British town of Salisbury, where former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were found in critical condition on March 4. Russian specialists were barred from participating in the OPCW's work on the site, according to Shulgin.

Comment: The envoy also stated Russia still had tricks up their sleeves, and they will be presented at the extraordinary session with the OPCW. TASS reports:
"We plan to come out with one more initiative at the extraordinary session," he said in an interview with the Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily. "I'd prefer not to disclose it now but, you can take it from me that it will be a good initiative, which will give rise to no unfavorable criticism. It fits perfectly well into the framework of the Chemical Weapons Convention and is geared to resolve the problem by civilized means."

Video Shows Aftermath of Brutal Saudi-Led Airstrike on Yemen

Saudi bombing Yemen

Seven children and five adults have died as a result of Saudi-led airstrikes on the rebel-held Yemeni port of Hodeida, which in terms of children, according to the UN, is "one of the deadliest attacks" in the war-torn country for years.

An extremely disturbing video, provided by Ruptly, shows the horrifying aftermath of the airstrikes carried out by the Saudi-led coalition: dead bodies of children, appearing to be up to 10 years old, are burnt and mutilated due to the explosions and scattered over the sand. The victims, mostly women and children, allegedly come from a camp for displaced people.

Rancorous rhetoric from Saudi crown prince: Iranian leader worse than Hitler, absolute monarchy is cool

Mohammed bin Salman
© Charles Platiau / Reuters
Seemingly discontent with just being the darling of the British establishment, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) is on a charm offensive to win over the American public as well.

The crown prince must have figured the surefire way to impress the US political establishment was by glorifying Israel and demonizing Iran, judging by his wide-ranging puff interview with The Atlantic's editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, on Monday.

Channelling former President George W. Bush's speechwriter, David Frum, MbS described his kingdom's enemies as the "triangle of evil," talking about Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood and Sunni terror groups like Al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

"I believe the Iranian supreme leader makes Hitler look good," bin Salman told Goldberg, without any trace of irony ‒ or evidence. "Hitler didn't do what the supreme leader is trying to do. Hitler tried to conquer Europe. ... The supreme leader is trying to conquer the world."

Comment: Who does he expect to believe this besides the war party??

It was when speaking about Israel, however, that MbS brought out the big guns (though not the ones he bought from the US) in his charm offensive. According to Goldberg, MbS "did not have a bad word to say" about Israel.

Turley: Sessions' appointing Utah Federal Prosecutor much better for Trump than 2nd special counsel

Sessions
© Alex Wong/Getty ImagesAG Jeff Sessions
Professor Jonathan Turley, a top national legal expert on government investigations, commented on Thursday about Attorney General Jeff Sessions' decision to bring in U.S. Attorney John Huber. Turley called it "brilliant"to combine all the powers of the U.S. Department of Justice's inspector general with a prosecutor who can bring charges, seek indictments, and get results for President Trump far more quickly than a second special counsel.

Turley is a law professor at George Washington University, who attained national fame during the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton as a top legal authority on special counsels and congressional investigations of government wrongdoing, including criminal wrongdoing. His reputation has only grown during the intervening 20 years, as he has weighed in on scandals and investigations of public officials from both political parties.

Sessions sent a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC), and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), informing them that Huber is conducting a full-fledged criminal investigation into all the matters Republicans are calling for a special counsel to investigate. Huber has been investigating these possible crimes for five months, since November 13, 2017.

During an interview on Lou Dobbs's Fox Business Network show, Turley explained to guest host Stuart Varney that the media are wrongly reporting that Sessions will not appoint a second special counsel. "He did not foreclose the possibility of a special counsel," he insisted.

Instead, Turley explained that Sessions has ordered Huber to "team up with the inspector general (IG) within the Justice Department to investigate these matters."
