Death of a warmonger: Are the interventionists now leaderless without John McCain?

john mccain
"McCain's Death Leaves Void" ran The Wall Street Journal headline over a front-page story that began:

"The death of John McCain will leave Congress without perhaps its loudest voice in support of the robust internationalism that has defined the country's security relations since World War II."

Certainly, the passing of the senator whose life story will dominate the news until he is buried at his alma mater, the Naval Academy, on Sunday, leaves America's interventionists without their greatest champion.

No one around has the prestige or media following of McCain.

And the cause he championed, compulsive intervention in foreign quarrels to face down dictators and bring democrats to power, appears to be a cause whose time has passed.

Comment: McCain's true legacy is carnage, mass suffering and profits for the war machine. But worry not, there are a hundred more just like him willing to step into his shoes and champion the goals of empire to the American public - shortly before the nation goes utterly and irretrievably down the proverbial tubes.

Revealed: Chinese Govt. killed and imprisoned 18-20 CIA spies after penetrating Hillary Clinton's private server

hillary_china
Hillary's carelessness and criminal actions may have led to the deaths of 20 CIA operatives in China.

The Chinese government killed or imprisoned 18 to 20 CIA operatives in China from 2010 to 2012.

At the same time a Chinese-owned company operating in the Washington, D.C., area hacked Hillary Clinton's private server throughout her term as secretary of state.

The Chinese government was obtaining Hillary Clinton's emails in real time.

Her criminal behavior severely damaged US foreign policy.

And the FBI refused to act.

The Chinese government murdered or imprisoned 18-20 CIA sources from 2010 to 2012 while Feinstein had a Chinese spy as her office manager.

Best of the Web: How to Create a U.S.-Backed Government Coup for Fun and Profit!

protests nicaragua
Nicaragua just defeated a U.S.-backed violent coup attempt, and no one cares.

Well, let me revise that: Very few care. English teachers may care because they may find it fascinating the phrase "violent coup" is one of the only English phrases often introduced with the prefix "U.S.-backed."

But I can tell you for certain the mainstream media don't want you to care. They don't even want you to know it happened. And they certainly don't want you to know that it followed a simple formula for U.S.-backed coups in leftist and anti-imperialist nations throughout Latin America, a formula our military intelligence apparatus has implemented in numerous countries tirelessly, like an overused football play.

On the corporate airwaves you won't hear about U.S.-backed anything. If the U.S. military backed up a truck, CNN wouldn't mention it, NPR would tell you the truck was dealing with an "organic internal protest movement" and Fox News would blame a black person.

CNN's own source says Michael Cohen story is fake news, but network still doubles down on it

Trump Michael Cohen
Michael Cohen, former attorney for Donald Trump
A bombshell story that was supposed to be the end of President Donald Trump - until the celebrity source recanted. It sounds like a typical media screw-up, with one key difference: for whatever reason, CNN is standing by it.

On July 26, CNN reported that Michael Cohen, Trump's former personal attorney, claimed that Trump "knew in advance about the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower in which Russians were expected to offer his campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton," and was willing to testify to that effect to special counsel Robert Mueller, according to "sources with knowledge."

Trump denied the story the very next morning, tweeting "so the Fake News doesn't waste my time with dumb questions," and calling out Cohen for hiring Lanny Davis, "Bill and Crooked Hillary's lawyer."

New book makes case for CIA and Saudi Arabia conspiring to keep 9/11 details secret

It's easier to bury uncomfortable facts than to confront them. So this September 11, the ceremonies marking the 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, D.C., will simply honor the dead. In Manhattan, tourists and mourners will gather where the World Trade Center Towers once stood, lowering their heads in memory of the 2,606 who perished there. The services won't reflect the view that the attacks might well have been prevented.

But for hundreds of families and a growing number of former FBI agents, the grief of another 9/11 ceremony will be laced with barely muted rage: There remains a conspiracy of silence among high former U.S. and Saudi officials about the attacks.

"It's horrible. We still don't know what happened," said Ali Soufan, one of the lead FBI counterterrorism agents whom the CIA kept in the dark about the movements of the future Al-Qaeda hijackers. To Soufan and many other former national security officials, the unanswered questions about the events leading up to the September 11, 2001, attacks dwarf those about the assassination of John F. Kennedy, because "9/11 changed the whole world." It not only led to the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, the fracturing of the Middle East and the global growth of Islamic militantism but also pushed the U.S. closer to being a virtual homeland-security police state.

The US can't bring Russia to its knees

Putin
The U.S.'s sanctions policy against Russia is evolving from trying to nudge the Kremlin in a desired direction to inflicting maximum pain. This is a slippery slope, and it's time to consider the most extreme consequences for Russia, as well as the U.S. and its allies.

During a Senate Banking Committee hearing this week, a telling exchange took place between Republican Senator John Kennedy and the Trump administration's senior sanctions officials.

Kennedy demanded to know what they would do if the president ordered them to bring the Russian economy "to its knees." They wouldn't give a straight answer, saying instead that the ramifications of such a goal would need to be assessed and that current sanctions were already aggressive. Irritated, Kennedy insisted: "But the economy hasn't been brought to its knees!"

His frustration is understandable. The U.S. has levied sanctions, or said it will, in response to a series of Russian actions: the annexation of Crimea, the fomenting of a pro-Russian rebellion in eastern Ukraine, the attempted poisoning of an ex-spy in the U.K. and a string of cyberattacks. The list could go on - but President Vladimir Putin's Russia has gone on doing all those things.

Comment: No verifiable evidence has ever been put forth for these supposed 'Russian actions'.

SOTT Focus: CNN Lies to Audience About a Key Claim in its Blockbuster Cohen Story, Now Refuses to Comment

CNN live screenshot

CNN'S BLOCKBUSTER July 26 story - that Michael Cohen intended to tell Special Counsel Robert Mueller that he was present when Donald Trump was told in advance about his son's Trump Tower meeting with various Russians - includes a key statement about its sourcing that credible reporting now suggests was designed to have misled its audience. Yet CNN simply refuses to address the serious ethical and journalistic questions raised about its conduct.

The substance of the CNN story itself regarding Cohen - which made headline news all over all the world and which CNN hyped as a "bombshell" - has now been retracted by other news outlets that originally purported to "confirm" CNN's story. That's because the anonymous source for this confirmation, Cohen lawyer Lanny Davis, now admits that, in essence, his "confirmation" was false. As a result, both the Washington Post and the NY Post outed Davis as their anonymous source and then effectively retracted their stories "confirming" parts of CNN's report.

CNN, however, has retracted nothing. All inquiries to the network are directed to a corporate spokesperson, who simply says: "We stand by our story, and are confident in our reporting of it." A newsletter sent Sunday night from CNN's two media reporters, Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy, contained the same corporate language, but addressed none of the questions raised about CNN's report.

Comment: And, that is why we have alt news - 'the world for people who think'.

Contentious pension reform in Russia: Putin responds to public outcry over raising retirement age with televised address to nation

putin tv address pension reform
Vladimir Putin has urged his people to reconcile themselves to painful state pension reforms, warning that a delay to the plans to hike the retirement age would place an intolerable burden on the Russian economy.

Comment: "His people"? Would the author write "Taoiseach Varadkar has urged his people..." ?? They're Russian CITIZENS, and he's the elected president of Russia.

"Any other approach would be irresponsible and dishonest," the Russian president said in a televised address to the nation on Wednesday.

It had been widely expected that Mr Putin would eventually intervene to calm the political storm that erupted when Dmitri Medvedev, the Russian prime minister, submitted a Bill to parliament in June raising the retirement age from 60 to 65 for men and from 55 to 63 for women.

Opinion polls indicate that the overwhelming majority of Russians oppose the measures, which have contributed to a dip in Mr Putin's approval ratings.

Comment: 'Destroyed' may be overstating the matter. But his rating is apparently down from 85% to about 65%. (Not that that's anything for you Western intel operatives and troll hordes to get excited about - you'll never know what it's like to live in a country where the leader has consistently high popularity ratings.)

This 'pension contention' in Russia is basically 'austerity' as it's been known in the West.

Is it fair? Is it the right thing to do in a changing, uncertain global economy? Or is it simply more 'elite greed' and plundering of the people?

The retirement age (for both sexes - 'equality' and all that) in most EU countries, by the way, is 65 or higher. In fact, the further 'west' you go, the higher it gets...

SOTT Focus: 9 Year Old 'Comes Out' to Classmates, is Bullied for Days, Then Kills Himself. Who is to Blame?

Jamel Myles Leia Pierce
Jamel Myles and his mother Leia Pierce
When you read that title what was your instinctive response? Perhaps you think: 'How terrible it is that a child of 9 years old could so despair as to take his own life?' Or: 'How horrible this world can be where some children would bully another to such an extent?'

Both of those thoughts and feelings struck me immediately, but quickly a third question/thought came into my mind: 'why is a 9 year old boy openly expressing his sexual identity to other school children?'

According to reports, last week 9 year old Jamel Myles was found dead at home after having committed suicide. How exactly he killed himself has not been released, but the coroner is satisfied there was no foul play. Earlier this summer Jamel told his mother, Leia Pierce, he was gay: "He was scared because he is a boy and it's harder on boys when they come out," Pierce said. "I smiled at him and said, 'I still loved him.' This world is missing out."

Best of the Web: Flotilla again attempts to break siege of Gaza - Report on Israel's illegal seizure of ships and humanitarian aid

Israel Gaza Freedom Flotilla al-Awda
© Israel Defense Forces press-service/FileIsraeli navy seizes last Freedom Flotilla ship
Israel is fighting constantly not only against Gazans, and against Palestinians generally; it is fighting constantly against freedom-loving people everywhere, who oppose dictatorship of any type, and in any country, on principle, irrespective of nationality.

Here's an example showing how much of a dictatorship and enemy of democrats Israel is:

Anna Dressler was a ship-hand on a flotilla of two small boats launched from Palermo, Italy, which were manned by 34 people from 12 countries in international waters, and which were seized - stolen - by Israel's military, on 29 July 2018. They became seized because these boats were carrying medical supplies in violation of Israel's internationally illegal blockade against food and medicine reaching the residents of Gaza. She was on the boat Al-Awda, which was 42 miles from Gaza at the time of seizure-theft. Israel's troops seizing it were masked, and were armed with machine-guns.

The first video of this incident was released on August 20th.
