Disgusting! Only 14 Members of Parliament bother to attend discussion on UN Poverty Report

MPs from all parties yesterday showed that they're not taking the issue of poverty seriously as only 13 bothered to turn up to debate a scathing UN report. Yesterday evening was the first chance MPs had to debate the findings of the United Nations Report on Extreme Poverty & Human Rights in the UK and NI. Despite this, only 14 MPs bothered to turn up with new Work and Pensions Secretary Amber Rudd sending a junior minister in her place instead.

Following his visit in November, United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur, Professor Philip Alston gave a scathing report on the level of poverty in the UK. He said that despite clear evidence that people are suffering, Ministers are in denial.

He went on criticise welfare reforms such as Universal Credit, saying it leaves victims of domestic abuse at risk and has contributed to the rise of foodbank use.

Despite Prof Alston presenting clear evidence of the scale of suffering being caused, not to mention it's in the media daily, Amber Rudd's used her first speech as Work and Pensions Secretary to dismiss the report as it was "highly political in nature."

Comment: When the Brits (and others) follow the French in seriously addressing the ills caused by their pathologically-driven governments, it'll be stories like this one that would have formed the righteous anger to have spurred them into action!

How the Integrity Initiative spun the West's highly improbable Skripal narrative

integrity initiative
One of the biggest and most under-reported stories of 2018 was also one of the most dazzling propaganda operations ever conducted in modern history. The narrative went something like this: a retired former Russian spy and UK double agent, Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were having lunch in a sleepy Wiltshire town, before being brutally poisoned by an alleged "military grade chemical weapon" known as Novichok.

What followed was a textbook, state-managed media operation. Incredibly, within only 48 hours, the UK government had already attributed blame to the Russian Federation and its president, Vladimir Putin. The motive: no apparent reason, just Putin being mean. "There's no logic in it; it doesn't make sense, and I don't think it needs to make sense, because essentially what the media is doing is propagandizing the population in favor of the madman theory. That's critical to do when you're trying to start aggression against a country," said Moon of Alabama at the time.

How can the state and the mainstream media coordinate in a way that would make the inconceivable become the accepted 'official' western consensus reality narrative? Enter the British government-funded anti-Russian propaganda effort ironically named, the Integrity Initiative. A bona fide deep sate agency working under the guise of an anodyne 'think tank,' this clandestine government-media complex network not only helped craft the mainstream Skripal Affair narrative, but it also coordinated and organized attacks against any dissenting persons in the alternative press and on social media who dared to challenge their 'official' western propaganda line.

The Saker: From 2018 to 2019 - A quick survey of some major geopolitical trends to make note of

missile launcher
The year 2018 will go down in history as a turning point in the evolution of the geostrategic environment of our planet. There are many reasons for that and I won't list them all, but here are some of the ones which I personally consider the most important ones:

The Empire blinked. Several times

This is probably the single most important development of the year: the AngloZionist Empire issued all sorts of scary threats, and took some even scarier actual steps, but eventually it had to back down. In fact, the Empire is in retreat on many fronts, but I will only list a few crucial ones:

Aaron Maté: 'Russiagate helps the elites distract us from real issues'

trump putin
Aaron Maté is a journalist known for his work as a former host/producer at the Real News, Democracy Now, and producer at Al Jazeera English. He is also a contributor at the Nation, who has recently been dedicating much of his column space to debunking claims that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government, more famously known as the "Russiagate" scandal.

Maté has become well-known for his fearless and adversarial approach to interviewing guests, especially for his now infamous one-on-one interview with discredited journalist Luke Harding; as well as James Risen, a writer at the Intercept, leading one commentator to describe him as a "beast."

With the Russiagate narrative once again dominating recent headlines, the Mind Unleashed decided to catch up with Maté for a lengthy conversation to get his take on the most recent developments.

TMU: I have seen you get into a lot of debates on Twitter about the Russiagate narrative. What do you say to someone who firmly believes that there is a great deal of publicly available evidence that the Trump campaign had illicit dealings, or colluded, with the Russian government?

AM: I will start by saying broadly: if you look on the surface, yeah you might think there is something suspicious going on because you have some cases of Trump-associates meeting Russians and you have emails written, like the one from Rob Goldstone, a publicist, that says the Russian government supports Donald Trump. And you know, you can put all these things together and yeah, on the surface you could say that this looks very sketchy and this looks like there was maybe some conspiracy Trump and Russia.

Italy's Salvini suggests "European Spring" to diminish 'German-French' domination

Italy's Euroskeptic deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini has said he wants Italy and Poland to join together to create a "European Spring" which could end the long-standing French and German domination on the continent.

Speaking during a press conference with Polish Interior Minister Joachim Brudziński in Warsaw on Wednesday, Salvini said that Poland and Italy "will be part of the new spring of Europe, the renaissance of European values" which would create a "new equilibrium" where the dominance of France and Germany is diminished.

The leader of the Northern League party said that upcoming European parliamentary elections, set for May, could lead away from a Europe "that is run by bureaucrats."

The people of Europe who, on the whole, are rallying behind organizations that support the kinds of policies Salvini's party stands for will surely be eager to join forces: Also check out SOTT radio's:

NewsGuard - the latest in narrative control aimed at destroying alternative media

newsguard
The frenzied, hysterical Russia narrative being promoted day in and day out by western mass media has had two of its major stories ripped to shreds in the last three days.

A report seeded throughout the mainstream media by anonymous intelligence officials back in September claimed that US government workers in Cuba had suffered concussion-like brain damage after hearing strange noises in homes and hotels with the most likely culprit being "sophisticated microwaves or another type of electromagnetic weapon" from Russia. A recording of one such highly sophisticated attack was analyzed by scientists and turned out to be the mating call of the male indies short-tailed cricket. Neurologists and other brain specialists have challenged the claim that any US government workers suffered any neurological damage of any kind, saying test results on the alleged victims were misinterpreted. The actual story, when stripped of hyperventilating Russia panic, is that some government workers heard some crickets in Cuba.

Another report which dominated news headlines all of yesterday claimed that former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort (the same Paul Manafort who the Guardian falsely claimed met with Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy) had shared polling data with a Russian associate and asked him to pass it along to Oleg Deripaska, who is often labeled a "Russian oligarch" by western media. The polling data was mostly public already, and the rest was just more polling information shared in the spring of 2016, but Deripaska's involvement had Russiagaters burning the midnight oil with breathless excitement. Talking Points Memo's Josh Marshall went so far as to publish an article titled "The 'Collusion' Debate Ended Last Night", substantiating his click-generating headline with the claim that "What's crystal clear is that the transfer to Kilimnik came with explicit instructions to give the information to Deripaska. And that's enough."

Incoming Senate Judiciary Chair Lindsey Graham: 'I'm going to do a deep dive on FISA abuse'

Graham
Incoming Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) met with Trump's nominee for Attorney General, Bill Barr on Wednesday as the Committee prepares for the confirmation hearings scheduled for next week.

Graham said Bill Barr has a high opinion of outgoing DAG Rod Rosenstein and King Robert Mueller, both criminals who have been trying to remove President Trump from office.

Reporters asked Senator Graham if he was going to investigate FISA abuses which involve Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

"Will you investigate surveillance abuse allegations, including those involving the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein?" a reporter asked Lindsey Graham.

"Yeah, I told him I want to give a deep dive on the FISA warrant problem as I see..." Graham said.

SOTT Focus: Is Deep State Ruled From Britain? How British Intelligence-Linked Integrity Initiative Drafted US For New Cold War

MI6 london
Shortly after Donald Trump's election, the UK-funded covert influence group proposed opening a new office in the US to train "younger generation of Russia watchers" and "strengthen" American role in countering Moscow, leaks show.

The latest tranche of documents, anonymously uploaded online last week, include an outline for "developing a US arm of [the] Integrity Initiative Program" and a schedule for a visit to Washington of its director, which details meetings with former senior Trump advisor Sebastian Gorka, and top diplomats and officials.

'West badly needs US leadership'

Despite the elected White House administration tentatively attempting a rapprochement with the Kremlin at the time, the group, effectively a foreign agent on US soil, suggests in the first document, dated to August 2017, that Washington needs to go in a radically different, if familiar, direction, "before it is too late."

"The West is badly in need of a reassertion of US leadership. The EU has been unable to generate any strategic thinking or to exercise convincing leadership. Russia (& China) are successfully driving wedges between EU Member States and between Allies within NATO," reads the plaintive precis.

A 'total waste of time': Trump walks out as talks shut down with Democrats

President Donald Trump walked out of the negotiations with congressional Democrats, declaring it a "total waste of time" after they repeated their refusal to fund any sort of wall on the border with Mexico.

"Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time," Trump tweeted, referring to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California). "I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!"

NSA Advisor Bolton: Groundwork being laid for anti-Iranian 'Arab NATO'

Last month, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister said that Gulf states were continuing negotiations with Washington on the creation of a regional security alliance directed against Iran, despite earlier fears that the proposed pact may have been scrapped after the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in a Saudi consulate in October.

The White House remains committed to the Middle East Strategic Alliance (MESA), Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton has indicated.

"The White House is laying the ground work for a Middle East Strategic Alliance," Bolton tweeted, thanking the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as well as Egypt and Jordan, "for standing together as we pursue a more vibrant and secure Middle East."
