In AUKUS, Navy eyes a full-service submarine garage in Asia-Pacific

The U.S. Navy envisions a submarine hub in Australia from which the service can oversee the entire range of undersea activities in the Asia-Pacific region, from boat production to repairs to missions, service Secretary Carlos del Toro said last month.

His comments, made ahead of a major announcement about the U.S.-U.K.-Australian submarine partnership dubbed AUKUS, reveal how Washington views its future relationship with Australia as a key foothold in closer proximity to rival China.

Bloomberg reported earlier this week President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese are expected to address the way ahead in the pact on March 13 in San Diego, California.

With most of the plans for a fleet of nuclear-powered boats for Canberra still up in the air, the U.S. sea service has its eyes on the near-term benefit of being able to base and repair U.S. Virginia-class attack submarines in Australian ports.

Del Toro told Defense News last month:
"AUKUS is all about being able to repair our submarines much further out, being able to build them in Australia as well, too, and create that much more presence in the Indo-Pacific where we need it the most."
He later said at the National Press Club:
"The ability of the United States Navy to be able to do forward-based repair and maintenance is critical to us; it's part of why we're actually proceeding down the AUKUS path as well, too, with regards to submarine capability in the future."

Chinese city may order lockdown for the FLU - Local officials warn Xi'an may be shut down to quell outbreaks of common virus

xi'an shaanxi china
Xi'an, Shaanxi, China
Chinese officials want to bring in lockdowns to combat the flu, leaving many furious about a prospect of returning to the strict restrictions seen during the Covid-19 outbreak.

The city of Xi'an, in Shaanxi Province in central China, said it may enforce lockdowns 'when necessary' if an outbreak of the common flu virus poses a 'severe threat'. The emergency response plan for the city published on Wednesday is intended to combat the rising number of influenza cases in the country, as Covid-19 cases continue to fall.

Authorities in the Chinese city have not suggested that a new set of lockdowns are imminent, but locals in the area have still dubbed the plans excessive.

China's zero-Covid lockdown plans were implemented throughout the country during the pandemic and were seen as extreme by many.

The plan by the Xi'an local government accounts for four levels of flu outbreak. If the common virus was to reach a critically high level, lockdowns would likely be reinstated.

Comment: It's darkly hilarious observing Western media pontificate about 'furriners overdoing lockdowns', given that Western govts locked-down longest and harshest in 2020-2021.

Running out of weapons? Russia pounds Ukraine with barrage of rare hypersonic missile

Nine people were killed across Ukraine on Thursday, as Russia unleashed a barrage of high-precision missile and other attacks that triggered a wave of power cuts, including at Europe's biggest nuclear power plant.

The blackout at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant prompted the UN nuclear agency's chief to issue a dire warning that next time "luck will run out", while President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the West to impose sanctions on Russia's atomic industry.

Russia said the strikes, involving rare hypersonic missiles, were retaliation for a border incursion earlier this month.

Comment: Although dating to late 2022, Brian Bertolic's analysis of Russia's missile barrages is still applicable:

China coup: Regional rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia agree to restore their ties after years of tensions with help of Chinese mediation

Archrivals Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed Friday to restore diplomatic relations, a dramatic breakthrough brokered by China after years of soaring tensions between the Middle Eastern powerhouses.

The deal, which will see the two leading oil producers reopen embassies in each other's capitals, was sealed during a meeting in Beijing — a boost to China's efforts to rival the United States as a broker on the global stage.

The agreement could put a damper on Israel's ongoing work to normalize relations with its Arab neighbors, and complicate U.S. and other Western powers' bid to contain Iran's nuclear ambitions.

The Saudi-Iran talks were held because of a "shared desire to resolve the disagreements between them through dialogue and diplomacy, and in light of their brotherly ties," according to a joint communique from Tehran, Riyadh and Beijing that was published by the official Saudi Press Agency.

Comment: ZeroHedge adds:
A joint communique confirming the restoration of relations from was issued by Riyadh, Tehran, and Beijing - and was first published in state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The statement emphasizes "a shared desire to resolve the disagreements between them through dialogue and diplomacy, and in light of their brotherly ties."

It spells out that the next step is for foreign ministers from both countries to "meet to implement this, arrange for the return of their ambassadors, and discuss means of enhancing bilateral relations."

Not only has the regional rivalry, which intensified most during the decade of the proxy war in Syria which began in 2011, been set amid a centuries-long divide over correct interpretation of Islam (Shia Iran vs. Sunni Saudi Arabia), but it has also spilled over in places like Yemen, scene of another grinding proxy war which pit Shia rebels against a Saudi-backed government.

The Saudis and Iranians also clash in supporting rival political factions inside Lebanon, with Tehran being the Shia paramilitary group Hezbollah's biggest backer. For these reasons, accusations of supporting terrorism have been frequently hurled back-and-forth over the years. Iranian state media, for example, has long charged the Saudis with being a prime covert backer of the Islamic State (ISIS) in their drive to overthrow President Assad in Syria.

The detente is also a surprise given the warming relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, based on attempts to bring Riyadh into the Abraham Accords. Very likely, this new agreement which was helped along by China will delay any possibility of the Saudis and Israelis establishing official relations on an accelerated timeline.

The Incompetence of The Incompetents Theory

People generally subscribe to one of two prominent yet conflicting theories regarding "Covid" events of the past few years.
  1. The Plandemic Theory
  2. The Incompetents Theory
There is rarely someone who falls in between.

The Incompetents theorist's favorite quote would be from Goethe: "Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence."

The planners of the plandemic love that quote. Goethe practically wrote it for them. It provides all the coverage they need to keep planning new crimes without ever facing consequences for their myriad of past crimes.

The Plandemic Theorists see the evidence of malice everywhere. They can explain the actions of those in power through deliberate coordination and planning of malicious events in advance of their occurrence. Most of the evidence has been painstakingly documented and shows in the aftermath of criminal acts (Actus Reus) — willful intent (Mens Rea).

The Goethe quote becomes inverted to suit the evidence compiled: "Never ascribe to incompetence that which is adequately explained by malice."

The Incompetents theorists refuse to acknowledge the litany of evidence that shows planning and malicious intent. For the sake of brevity, I will only include two pieces of evidence, and because these two pieces are all that is needed to completely destroy the Incompetents Theory.
  1. The genomic computer-sequenced virus (provided to the world by China) matched exactly to a portion of a sequence patented in 2017 by the failing biotech company Mode-RNA, which had never produced a profitable product prior to its "Covid Vaccine." Statisticians have put the statistical probability of this occurring naturally at 1 and 3 trillion.
  2. The US Patent No.: 9,587,003 B2 has Mode-RNA's CEO Stephane Bancel's name on it. In late January 2020, 45 days before the entire world locked down for a virus with a 99.7% survival rate, at the WEF's annual meeting of global philanthropaths, Bancel bragged of already having a vaccine in production. In 2019 he told Mode-RNA employees that they needed to be ready to manufacture a billion vaccine doses, "...because there's going to be a pandemic next year." The CEO of Gates-funded GAVI — The Vaccine Alliance, knew of Bancel's comments to his employees and their start on a "Covid Vaccine" in 2019.
Even if one ignores the 1 in 3 trillion odds of a matching viral sequence patented three years before China released the Covid computer sequence to the global medical community, how did Bancel and Mode-RNA have a Covid vaccine manufactured in 2019 when China didn't share the "virus" until January 12, 2020, according to the WHO's own timeline of events?

Praise be: Some 'sober thinking' remains in Ukraine as portions of population are in favor of peace talks

A senior Kiev official recently admitted that an increasing portion of the country's population wants peace talks with Moscow

Some Ukrainians are realistic about future relations between Russia and Ukraine, which are bound to be restored in some capacity sooner or later, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov suggested on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, Peskov said that while it was premature to talk about a diplomatic settlement of the conflict, "there are still small streams of sober thinking" in Ukraine about ties between Moscow and Kiev, despite "the flood of propaganda filled with hatred of Russia" and "efforts to brainwash the Ukrainian population."

Relations between the two countries are "inevitable, because we are neighbors, that's obvious," he added.

Best of the Web: "Expect mass layoffs..." - The real-world impact of SVB's failure

Silicon Valley Bank
For most people in America, the news that a 'bank in Silicon Valley' has failed will be forgotten quicker than a story about soaring shoplifting in their local supermarket.

It shouldn't.

Reality is that the contagion of the shuttering of the 18th largest bank in the US are widespread.

SVB is in fact the second largest (by assets) bank failure in US history after WaMu.

Comment:
Silicon Valley Bank collapse marks worst bank failure since Great Recession

The closure of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) was announced by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) on Friday, marking the worst U.S. financial institution failure in nearly 15 years.

SVB was the 16th largest bank in the United States until Friday afternoon. It failed after anxious depositors rushed to withdraw money over concern for the bank's health.

SVB was connected to a number of Silicon Valley industries and startups. Y Combinator, an incubator startup that launched Airbnb, DoorDash and DropBox, regularly referred entrepreneurs to them.
"This is an extinction-level event for startups," Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan said. "I literally have been hearing from hundreds of our founders asking for help on how they can get through this. They are asking, 'Do I have to furlough my workers?'"
The California bank also suffered from the decline in the value of technology stocks, as well as industry layoffs. SVB was so prominent that it was considered an ideal starting point to early-stage startups.

SVB's collapse was so quick that, hours before its closure, some industry analysts were hopeful that the bank was still a good investment.

The bank's shares had fallen 60% on Friday morning, after already falling 60% on Thursday. SVB had sold off $1.75 billion in shares to compensate for declining customer deposits.

SVB is the second-largest U.S. bank to close since the Great Recession. Its downfall echos the closure of Washington Mutual in 2008.

Washington Mutual had over $300 billion in assets when it collapsed. It was sold to Chase by the FDIC, with any remaining WaMu branches becoming Chase branches.

By the end of 2022, SVB touted $209 billion in total assets. Its total deposits numbered $175.4 billion.

The FDIC will make deposits below the $250,000 limit available on Monday, though it is unknown how many deposits were above the limit.

According to the White House, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is watching SVB "closely." But the White House asserts that post-2008 reforms will prevent further economic meltdown.
"Our banking system is in a fundamentally different place than it was, you know, a decade ago," said Cecilia Rouse, chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers. "The reforms that were put in place back then really provide the kind of resilience that we'd like to see."

Top Democrat on J6 committee: We actually didn't review any of the surveillance video

rep bennie thompson
© PBS NewsHour / YouTube
After Fox News host Tucker Carlson aired Capitol surveillance footage this week exposing yet more falsehood from the House Select Committee on Jan. 6 and leaving Democrats and their media allies irate, the committee chair on Wednesday said the panel never actually analyzed the crucial footage.

On Monday's edition of "Tucker Carlson Tonight," Fox News aired the footage of the riot on Jan. 6, 2021, undermining the select committee's narrative of a "deadly insurrection." Given access to the video by Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Carlson's team reviewed over 40,000 hours of footage, which offered proof the committee manipulated audio and video to dramatize the riot for its made-for-TV hearings in an election year.

But in a Wednesday night statement to CNN, select committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., claimed the panel never analyzed the blockbuster footage Fox News aired this week.

Russia, UN set for Ukraine grain deal renewal talks - Lavrov highlights how sanctions are prohibiting transfer ships

Russia and the United Nations will hold talks in Geneva on Monday (Mar 13) on renewing the Ukraine grain export deal, with the UN saying the fate of millions rested on its extension.

Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year saw Ukraine's Black Sea ports blocked by warships until a deal signed in July allowed for the safe passage of exports of critical grain supplies.

Comment: That was to ensure that Ukraine didn't use the opportunity for war related activities, in the same way it abused the Minsk peace process to instead shore up its military to attack Russia; and that was done with the full blessing of the West.

More than 23.7 million tonnes have been exported under the UN and Turkey-brokered Black Sea Grain Initiative, according to the United Nations.

Comment: Some of the grain that was intended for Africa was instead taken by Western nations instead.

Australia to buy 5 nuclear-powered submarines as part of AUKUS in violation of previous commitments to China

In a major expansion and overhaul of its navy, Australia is planning to buy up to five US Virginia class nuclear powered submarines beginning in the next decade, Reuters and others are reporting. US as well as European officials have disclosed the future deal as part of a "landmark defense agreement between Washington, Canberra and London, four U.S. officials said on Wednesday, in a deal that would present a new challenge to China."

Comment: Well, it's not so much a 'challenge' to China as it is a provocation, and further confirmation that the West is pathological in its plans to 'contain' the country.

The impending agreement is seen as central to the relatively new AUKUS partnership, and the major sub deal is expected to be announced when President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak meet in San Diego Monday.
