144,000 lightning bolts fell in 24 hours in Southeast Europe.

Thunderstorms were accompanied by hail as 144,000 lightning bolts have fallen in Southeast Europe in the last 24 hours.

This shows a reference from "Blitzortung" platform, which registers real-time thunderstorm activity.

About 1/4 of all of them are on the territory of Bulgaria.

One person was killed after hours of torrential rain caused flash flooding in the coastal city of Sihanoukville in southern Cambodia.

On 24 August, Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology warned that the country will be affected by a low pressure system from over the coming days, increasing the likelihood of heavy rainfall.

More than 40 mm of rain fell in 1 hour causing flash floods in parts of southern Spain early on 25 August 2021. The previous day a storm in southeastern France dumped over 100 mm of rain in a short period causing floods in Var Department.

Météo-France said their rain gauges recorded 81.3 mm at Vauvenargues, near Bouches-du-Rhône on 24 August, which is nearly 3 times the average monthly total for the month of August on this station. As much as 58 mm fell in just in 1 hour.

Hail and high intensity rainfall totalling over 100 mm fell in the town of Pignans in Var Department, which was badly affected by flooding. The town was completely closed to traffic after streets were swamped with mud and flood water 30 cm deep, police said.

South Korea - Typhoon Omais dumps 98mm of rain in 1 hour

Typhoon Omais made landfall in South Korea late on 23 August 2021. Heavy rain flooded roads, railways and homes and threatened landslides which prompted some evacuations but there were no reports of injuries or casualties.

Geoje City located in South Gyeongsang province recorded 98.0 mm of rain in 1 hour early on 24 August 2021, while Imsil in North Jeolla Province saw 84.0 mm and the port city of Busan 78.0 mm. Total rainfall amounts for the duration of the storm were over 230 mm in Geoje.

The cold front brought blizzard conditions to the Barrington overnight.
The cold front brought blizzard conditions to the Barrington overnight.
The rain yesterday brought plenty of snow to the Barrington last night with the strong westerly winds piling up one metre of snow in some places.

The conditions on the Barrington overnight were described as "blizzard like", with the strong winds causing many large trees to fall and residents are busy clearing roads from the damage.

There was an estimated 55 to 60mm of rainfall in the area and many local rivers have risen.

The snow began at approximately 2pm and fell throughout the night, but it is now melting and conditions are icy.

While lock down prevents people from visiting the Tops, it is unlikely the area would have been open due to the damage caused by the high winds.

Lightning strike kills 3 women in Jharkhand, India

Three women working in a paddy field in Jharkhand's Sahibganj district were killed on Tuesday when lightning struck them, an official said.

Four women working in the field near Sakhi Garden under Rajmahal block were hit by lightning and were brought to hospital for treatment by the villagers, where the doctors declared three women dead.

Confirming the incident, Sub-Divisional Officer, Rajmahal, Roshan Sah said that the injured woman has been referred to Sahibganj Hospital for better treatment.

Lightning strike in western Wisconsin kills construction worker, seriously injures another

Authorities say a lightning strike killed a man and seriously injured another while they were working on ladders Tuesday morning in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

According to the Dunn County Sheriff's Office, a crew at a construction site reported that two men were down and had possibly been struck by lightning around 11:11 p.m. One of the victims was reportedly not breathing.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found two victims, ages 60 and 20. The 60-year-old was not breathing and was pronounced dead at the scene. The younger victim was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries, the sheriff's office said.

15 dead after floods and mudslides in Merida, Venezuela

At least 15 people have died after heavy rain caused foods and mudslides in the state of Mérida in western Venezuela.

Hours of heavy rain fell on the steep slopes surrounding the Mocotíes Valley Area late on 23 August 2021. Mudslides and overflowing rivers inundated communities in the valley below. Powerful floods dragged cars through streets, buried roads with mud, rocks and debris and damaged or destroyed homes. Power supply has been cut in affected areas.

Governor of the state, Ramon Guevara, reported 11 fatalities in the municipality of Tovar and two in the municipality of Antonio Pinto Salinas. Officials later reported 2 fatalities in Sucre municipality. Six people are thought to be still missing.

The heavy snowfall that occurred in recent days in the Andean region began to cause complications. There were around 50 people stranded in the Bariloche bus terminal and the Municipality of Neuquén reported that the terminal of the capital city receives services from long-distance companies that left for the different areas of the province, but that they had to return because they did not can circulate.

For now, traffic on Route 237 was cut off due to the complicated situation in the Collón Cura area. This route connects Bariloche with Piedra del Águila and the cities of the Alto Valle.

In addition to route 237, the National Highway suspended traffic on routes 40 and 22 where the inconvenience to circulate due to accumulation of snow persists .
