A record number of bear attacks occurred across Japan from April to July this year, local media reported, according to The Xinhua News Agency reports.

Fifty-three cases of injuries were reported across the country, including 15 in Iwate Prefecture, nine in Akita Prefecture, and seven in Fukushima Prefecture, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing Japan's environment ministry, a record high since records began in fiscal 2007.

A man died in a bear attack in Horokanai Town in Hokkaido in May, it added.

More bears are likely to appear in residential areas in the Tohoku region this autumn in search of food as acorns that make up the bears' diet are scarce in their natural habitat in the region, the report said.

Ministry officials called on people to stay calm and walk away quietly if they encounter a bear at a distance while advising people to keep looking at the bear as they slowly walk away and not to run when they notice a bear nearby.

A man has died after being savagely mauled by two 'dangerously out-of-control' dogs in outside a nearby primary school.

The horror attack took place in the village of Stonnall, near Walsall, Staffordshire, yesterday afternoon as children were leaving St Peter's Primary Academy.

An air ambulance, paramedics and officers, including armed police, were called to Main Street shortly before 3.15pm on Thursday.

St Peter's was placed into lockdown 'for safety reasons', with officers stopping pupils from leaving while they dealt with the incident.

Courageous Good Samaritans tried to help the man as he was savaged by the two animals, managing to contain one of the hounds, with the second dragged to its owner's flat where it was restrained.

Shocking moment out-of-control dog mauls 10-year-old boy as he plays football outside his home

This is the shocking moment a 10-year-old boy is attacked by an out-of-control dog as he innocently plays football outside his house.

The incident, on Bentley Drive in Walsall, saw the youngster, dressed in a red top and white shorts, mauled as he kicked the ball around on Wednesday.

A brown-coloured dog runs past in the street before turning and pouncing on him, locking its jaw around the boy's arm as he struggles to free himself from its razor-sharp grip.

For an agonising 30 seconds, the boy struggles alone before anguished family members come running from inside the house to help - but the dog still refuses to let go.

It's only after more than a minute of being struck with a toy by relatives, and with the help of a passing taxi driver, that the vicious animal eventually relents, and the boy is taken to safety before he is rushed to hospital.

Terrifyingly, another small boy walked out of the house clutching what appears to be a toy water gun - before he was told to go back inside as the dog's vicious assault continued.

West Midlands Police said the dog is to be 'humanely destroyed'. A 60-year-old woman was arrested and released with a caution.

Gohar Siddique, the boy's father, shared the awful clip because he wants to raise awareness. While the breed of the dog in the video is unknown, he urged owners to keep their pets locked up.

The 36-year-old factory worker told BlackCountryLive: 'I just want to make sure this doesn't happen to other people. This should not be happening to young children.'

Mr Siddique - who was at work when he was told what had happened - said his son was recovering in hospital and would require surgery.

A grievous close-up of the boy's injuries shows horrific gouge marks in his right forearm, as he lies on a hospital bed wrapped in blood-covered sheets.

Thirteen dolphins die after beaching on Skye, Scotland

mmmmmm
Thirteen dolphins have died after they beached on Skye, two months after the UK's largest stranding of pilot whales in the Outer Hebrides.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue was warned of unusual activity in a pod of common dolphins in Dunvegan Bay on Monday. Some of the animals became "stuck in deep mud". This weekend experts will try to find why the dolphins became stranded.

The deaths follow the UK's biggest pilot whale stranding when 54 creatures died on the Isle of Lewis in July. Only one whale was successfully refloated despite the efforts of rescue teams at Traigh Mhor, North Tolsta. Diggers were used to take the dead mammals from the remote beach to a landfill site.

Among the dead was a female pilot whale.

Dolphins have been spotted about 40 miles inland in the River Great Ouse in Cambridgeshire. It is the furthest they could travel upstream on the river, and may be the furthest inland that the species has ever been seen in the UK.

It is believed the two dolphins are a mother and calf, and their sighting on the Ouse, around Bluntisham and Earith, has prompted concerns for their wellbeing.

Jon Heath, the county bird recorder for Cambridgeshire, who took these pictures and regularly contribute to the Cambridge Independent's nature coverage, went to see them after they were spotted by photographer Simon Stirrup on Thursday.

Led by Rinat Zhumatayev, Head of the Department of Archaeology, Ethnology, and Muzology of KazNU, in collaboration with specialists from the University of Cambridge, these excavations have steadily unveiled secrets of the past. The ongoing excavations have gained momentum since 2016 when the journey to explore the region's historical treasures commenced in the Zaisan district, spearheaded by Abdesh Toleubaev.

"The results of our work were showcased at the first international exhibition, specifically in Moscow, London, and Kazan. Thanks to the exhibition 'Altai - the Cradle of the Turkic World,' we have strengthened our relationship with Cambridge University. Since 2020, archaeological excavations have been conducted in collaboration with scientist Rebecca Roberts," said Rinat Zhumatayev.

The artifacts, belonging to the Bronze Age spanning from the 25th to 18th centuries BC, were initially discovered in the ancient burial grounds of Ainabulak in 2017. Exploration continued in subsequent years in Yelek, and in 2023, focus returned to Zaisan. The unearthed artifacts are set to be displayed in the historical and local history museum of the East Kazakhstan region. Local budget allocations have facilitated the preservation of these invaluable pieces.

Unprecedented sightings of the tropical birds swept off course by the category-three storm

Flamingos have been found in America's Midwest after being blown across the country by a hurricane.

The birds, thought to have travelled from as far as Mexico, first started to be spotted in Florida as a result of Hurricane Idalia and have now landed as far away as Ohio.

Experts have said that they have "never seen anything like this".

"We will get a flamingo or two following storms [but] this is really unprecedented," Jerry Lorenz, of the bird research group Audubon Florida, told US media.

The birds appeared in Florida when Idalia hit the state as a category-three hurricane after crossing the Caribbean last month.

2 killed, 8 injured in black bear attacks in less than a month across Kashmir, India

The constant movement of wild animals towards human habitation has carried panic among people. In recent days black bear attacks increased throughout the Valley. It is to be believed that the conversion of the bear's natural habitat to orchards and farmlands is the primary reason for the attacks over past three decades.

Other reason is blockade of several border areas with fencing and other barriers that restrict movement of animals. People living in remote areas across Kashmir are living in fear after increasing black bear attacks.

Today on September 6, a man was injured after being attacked by a bear in Pachgam nard Kund area of South Kashmir Kulgam district. He has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad from Pachgam.

Earlier on September 4, a 40 year old man was attacked and injured by a black bear in Drangsoo Village in Mawar area of Kupwara district. Officials said the injured man was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat.

Three people rescued off Australian coast after yacht damaged by multiple shark attacks

Great white shark
Three people have been rescued in the Coral Sea off the coast of Cairns, after their catamaran was damaged during several shark attacks.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (Amsa) coordinated the rescue early Wednesday morning roughly 835km off the coast of Cairns, after receiving a distress beacon.

In a post to social media, the crew, who were on a round-the-world expedition called Russian Ocean Way, which they were documenting online, said they were first attacked by sharks on 4 September, leaving the rear left "cylinder" of their nine-metre inflatable catamaran damaged.

"As a result, [it] completely submerged under water," a post on the crew's Instagram account reads.
